Bottled 2012
Cork pulls out with much ease-too much ease. Appearance is of watered down cola with golden hues. Thin lace of bubbles. Aroma is sour Flemish indeed some oud braun too. Sour patch candies and jojos. Taste-no sweetness and extremely mild sour. Watered down Flemish. No Brett appearance. Nothing wild. Metallic twang. Mouthfeel is extremely weak. Overall I find this rather bland versus off putting. Not gonna waste my time with the rest of the bottle. Nuff said.

This probably used a base similar to a Flanders-style sour ale, with a less than perfect mash or fermentation. The faint off-scent is not pleasing, but it thankfully does not make a presence when the beer is sipped. An interesting, non-traditional beer that apparently took two years to hit interesting notes. Would be interested to have another bottle two years from now and compare notes.
Pours an off-white to light beige-colored foam that has above average retention, fading to a thin ring around the perimeter of the glass in around two minutes. Lacing is modest, but better than many acidic beers, with some moderately sized patterns clinging to the sides of the glass. The body is a very dark amber color, with light bringing out dark golden orange hues (SRM 9-17). Transparent.
Aroma of mild blackberries, oak, heavy dark caramel or burnt molasses-like sweetness, and a faint meatiness/garbage scent (which is not pleasant) that indicates something off in fermentation or autolysis.
Flavor of mild tartness with hints of sweet blackberries, some oak barrel, heavy dark caramel and burnt molasses-like characters with modest Brettanomyces notes. Front tastes mild tartness with a blackberry/raspberry-like note, notably deep/rich dark caramel and burnt molasses-like notes, subtle oak, and light Brettanomyces burnt plastic. Mid of continued mildly tart blackberry/raspberry-like notes, more balanced sweetness/character from dark caramel and roasted malts, and a mild "funk" and burnt plastic note from Brettanomyces is present in the far background. Back palate of more notable, though still mild, berry-like tartness with a dark caramel and/or roasted malt heaviness in the background, as well as some minor Brettanomyces notes. Aftertaste of lingering deep/rich dark caramel and burnt molasses-like characters.
Beer is medium-heavy in body, with carbonation of low intensity, resulting in a lightly foamy mouthfeel (20-30%) that's somewhat heavy, but works marginally well with the mildly acidic beer (a bit more carbonation, or a bit lighter body would have been better). Closes dry, with medium to medium-light stickiness on the palate.

I don't get why people don't like this beer, perhaps it just needs some age. The bottle I drank was not flat and even had more than just an effervescent mouth feel. There was a definite carbonation to it. The brett is evident in this beer, it just isn't kick you in the teeth sour. The flavors of cherry, oak and vanilla are all there and very well balanced. This is a great beer to introduce someone to sours with or to enjoy on a hot summer day. Don't let the words dark sour confuse you, this is a light bodied refreshing beer. Unfortunately so many beer drinkers don't understand nuance and subtly in there brews, which leads to bad scores on BA. Don't pass this beer up, because of the naysayers.

I let this age for a little while as I was told it needed time to develop. Pours dark brown with some crimson hues and not much of a head or carbonation. Smell has aromas of dark cherry oak a slightly wine like aroma and a fair amount out sour vinegar. Taste has a slightly tannic wine like flavor forward with a fair amount our sour vinegar loads dry oak flavor dark cherries and some vanilla in the finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied with little to no carbonation.
