Globe, 12oz bottle. 'Lot#1476'

This is a damn good double IPA, even at 9+ months old.

Bottle purchased as part of a 6 pack at a Whole Paycheck in NYC. Brief impressions below:

Piney flavours join with big bold tropical fruit flavours for a heavy wallop of hops and concomitant bitterness, but the pale malt/caramalt backbone doesn't quite quell the bitterness and bring this brew into balance...and it does have some undisguised alcohol warmth. Fans of cleanly citrusy or oily and resinous hop profiles will find nothing for them in this aggressively hopped bitter brew, but it's not bad by any means. Built for fans of new world tropical fruit-emphatic imperial IPAs, offering nothing in terms of classic floral, citrusy, resinous, or (non-tropical) fruit hops.

Chalk it up to personal preference, but this one doesn't offer much to my tastes. The mouthfeel is fine - your usual slightly overcarbonated, aptly medium-bodied, smooth, wet texture - but not special. Depth of flavour is limited, as is flavour duration. Flavour intensity is moderately high.

It's drinkable fare and I'll enjoy the six pack I bought, but I can't see anyone justifying picking this up over better priced and higher quality expressions of the style from the likes of Lagunitas, Deschutes, Victory, et al....let alone slightly higher priced style paragons from breweries like Ballast Point, Alpine, Bell's, and the like. Pretty unremarkable overall, but I'm glad I tried it once.

Very well-balanced DIPA. Not overly hoppy, drinks well. Lacks some hop in the scent but forgivable based on look/taste/feel.
