Surely one of the best beers this brewery has put out to date.

Pours a hazed dark orange with a medium-sized head with ample lacing.

Smell is quite pleasant with a sweet phenolic and spicy nose with a nice core of malty sweetness. Hops are not prevalent, but lend balance.

Taste is the best part with a nice banana sweetness hitting first leading to some spicy hops and leaving with more sweetness. Very enjoyable.

Mouthfeel is creamy, but has a hollowness to it that makes it less than perfect.

Very drinkable beer! I hope to see more efforts like this one!

The Two Bros retro release of Oh Brother Tripel is pretty good...and I'm not much of a Belgian fan. The beer pours a clear orangish color with thin head that is not lacing. The smell was typical of most Belgians with that slight twang. The taste is a sweeter malt taste with a slightly acidic flare. The mouthfeel is full body with good carbonation. Overall this is a decent beer.

Pours a nice, dense, white head. Soft sweet aroma with notes of banana and grassy hops, with alcohol wafting in the background. Golden color. Starts off sweet, slightly acidic, and boozey with surprising hoppiness. Middle is dominated by a boozy malt. Finish moves into malt and hop bitterness.

Not bad, overall. Surprisingly hoppy. I like that more yeasty-malty-banana in my Tripels.

Live review. Poured from the 1 pint, 6 oz. bomber bottle that I bought at Save-On Tobacco & Beverage for $6.99 a week ago or so into my clean, clear Voodoo Brewery pint glass. No "best by" date observed but a large sticker states: Cleveland Beer Week Special Release and left side of label mentions "Celebrating 15 years with 15 beers" and "Retro Release 11 of 15"

A Light yellow translucent body under a generous but brief white head that dissipates quickly, The body reminds me of a Bud Light, really. 2.5

S Belgian yeast and some sweetness from apparent candi sugars but not very characteristic of the style really. I have to say that so far I am dissapointed. 2.5

T Malt sweetness and Belgian yeast tastes certainly classify it as a Belgian Tripel but this is a rather weak one really. It just delivers on the required tastes and that is about it. Also there is a very weak aftertaste. It tends to just disappear. 3.0

M Some syrupy sweetness is there but it quickly leaves. Lingering syrupy sweetness is not necessarily typical for the style but this leaves really quickly. Overall the feel is on the thin side for an artisan Tripel. 2.5

D/O Drinkability is reasonable for the style. Overall this is unimpressive. 3.0

Presentation: 22 oz. bomber poured into sam adams perfect pint glass. No freshness dating indicated.

A-Pours a slightly hazy light honey color. Minimal head on the pour. And a ring forms on the sides as I drink.

S-Banana. Alcoholic banana that is. Nothing much else to be had here.

T&MF-This beer has the worst banana taste I have ever had. Reminds me of that gawdy 99 Bananas liquor. After the punishing bananas flavors, in comes the horrible alcohol taste. Dont get me wrong, I dont mind boozy alcohol flavors in the appropriate style. But this is like rubbing alcohol or wood glue. Mouthfeel is a bit dry and carbonation could be a bit more for the style.

O-Im wondering if the fermentation temps were a bit too high. This is not a pleasure to drink and I doubt if I will finish it. More attention to detail needs to be considered if they are planning on doing this style again.

Never picked this one up a few years ago, just wasn't something that sounded appealing.
Working through the 15th anniversary series, and here it is again.

Poured into a tapered mug, it has about a half inch of foam initially that fades to nothing after the first couple sips. Sadly doesn't look remotely Belgian as a result. Some streamers of carbonation, and a brassy orange color to it.

Smells nice, mainly yeasty esters with banana and clove notes.

A bit slick with rapidly fading carbonation. Big and chewy, apple, nuts, banana, clove, nutmeg flavors. Residual spiciness in the dry aftertaste. Tastes pretty good actually, with well hidden alcohol. Clean and fairly flavorful, overall lacking a little though.

Honestly not a big fan of most US Tripels, but this one is pretty much to style, minus the lack of a billowing head and effervescent carbonation.

From: Binny's, Champaign, IL
Date: None
Glass: Tulip

Two Brothers brews a fairly strange tripel with its emphasis on rather heavy yeast and musty banana. As I note below, this is a little reminiscent of an imperial hefeweizen, except the bananas gradually become overwhelmed by apple and pear esters, and there is none of the hefeweizen yeast specifics in the aroma or flavor. This was an acceptable tripel, but overall too heavy with too-little emphasis on the spices that are often noted in tripels and the complex light fruit esters.

Pours a 1cm head of slightly off-white foam that has average retention. The head fades to a thin ring around the glass with a few wispy lines of foam atop the body. Lacing is above average, with solid splotches and dots along the sides of the glass. The body is a transparent orange-gold color, with light turning it a golden yellow hue. Carbonation is visible and quite active.

Aroma is of heavy banana, yeast, malt, a bit of mustiness, and old pine needles. Absent is much of the apple, pear, unripe peach/apricot, and herb mixture that I've come to anticipate from tripels.

Reading my description, this beer sounds something like an imperial version of a hefeweizen, except it is missing that smoothness of flavors and trading the banana, yeast, and bread intensities for ethanol, pear, and apple. I suspect there is a fair bit of wheat malt in the mash, but cannot confirm this. The front of the palate detects yeast, banana esters, and some mild apple and pear juice sweetness. Mid-palate of overripe banana, hints of tart pear and apple in a pale malt base, with some ethanol appearing as well. Back of palate picks up a bit of curry-like spiciness with continued pear and apple juice, and substantial ethanol, which is a bit of a turn-off as it detracts from the other flavors.

Beer is medium to medium-heavy in body, with moderate carbonation that produces a fairy smooth, softly fizzy mouthfeel. Ethanol is generally well felt on the tongue, throat, and in the nostrils, and while perhaps a bit too obvious and high for its own good, the result is still drinkable and pleasurable across the palate. The beer closes dryly, with fairly substantial stickiness on the palate and lips.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a Lost Abbey chalice.

A- pours a nice caramel with a 2 finger white head. Big blotches and trails of lacing remain on the glass.

S- caramel, big Belgian yeast aromas, bananas, clove, and some other spices.

T- sweet caramel, banana, clove, more spices, and some bitterness.

M- medium body and carbonation. Slight slick, syrupy feel with some creaminess as well.

O- I thought this was a nice beer. I don't drink triples regularly, so hard to compare styles.

Served in a Duvel tulip glass.

Man, I was gonna use this name as a joke-y name for an upcoming homebrew...oh, well... This stuff pours a clear gold topped by a finger or so of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises wheat, banana, light clove, a kiss of booze, and the vague notion of biscuit. The taste brings in more of the same, but the banana is the clear overlord here, dominating all other flavors. Near the end, it twists a bit, becoming an almost creamsicle-like orange kinda thing. It's odd, actually. Whatever spice was imparted by the yeast and whatnot has been almost completely eclipsed, taking away from the whole tripel-ness of things. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a smooth, almost slick feel. Overall, an okay tripel, but one whose lack of traditional characteristics and whose o'erwhelming sense of banana keep me from truly enjoying it.
