Rather straightforward malt beer that has some lager yeast notes sprinkled around but not much else. It is fairly non-descript and borderline adjunct, but it isn't offensive in any way.

Growing up in suburban chicago, this was the go to intro micro. I still love it and it's not just teenage nostalgia. Complicated notes for a pretentious styled brew in a simple package. And you can have a sixer and still have room in your tummy for ramen.

Had this on 2016-11-17 at the brewery on tap and again on 2017-05-12 at California Pizza Kitchen on tap.

A - clear mahogany with a 1/2 finger head and good lace

S - Very mild aroma. Caramel, toasted bread

T - Very tasty. Toasted bread, pear, caramel and balancing bitterness

M - Medium body and carbonation

O - Easy drinking and enjoyable. Not a Saison flavor. More like a spicy Vienna Lager.

Poured from the bottle. (Not at Brothers, Will.) Decent reddish brew.

A: very slight haze; bronze in color; 1 finger off white head that receded quickly to a blotchy cap; OK lacing;

S: orange, lemon, bread;

T: bready up front, then a very nice muted orange; mild bitterness on the finish; finish is short;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: refreshing; easy drinking; doesn't really follow the style guidelines, but it's very enjoyable;

Pours a brass color with a one finger khaki colored head.
Aroma is very faint. Smells of peat moss, french oak, apple strudel, caramel and sultanas.
I'm not really getting much flavor... it tastes like water. Just a very mild but pleasant caramel malt taste with notes of wood and apples in the background.
I can see how this would pair nicely with food. The feel is very light and watery but where is the flavor?

Overall I'm disappointed, this is a pricey beer and I paid good money for it but I found it quite underwhelming. At least it has potential as a complement to food... but on it's own - as a beer - I'm not impressed.

Pours amber in color. Smells sweet and slightly malty. Looks and smells similar to a marzen.

Caramel malt dominates the flavor with some earthy and tea-like notes lingering. Actually, the more I get into it, the more it seems like a total caramel malt beer. Mild bread, but mainly this reminds me of a marzen.

Good body, strong carbonation, overall a good beer. I'm just not sure it's that true to style here.
