L: Pours brilliant copper tinted gold under a 2.5” cauliflower gold tinted cream colored foam cap that takes 4 minutes to reduse to 1/3 its original size. S: Earthy and woodsy with a little graininess in the background bolstered by some light biscuit. Hop aromas are moderate to moderately low and malt aromas are moderately low. T: Light hop derived fruit flavors blended with some herbal notes. A moderately high, herbal hop bitterness is soft with rounded edges. The bitterness lingers supported by pleasant malt flavors and an herbal melony spiciness with light citrus notes. Hop flavors are moderately high, malt flavors moderate. Balance slightly to the hops. F: Very creamy with soft mouth filling carbonation, medium body and average to above average carbonation. O: A very tasty, well balanced beer with unique herbal, spicy, fresh flavors.

transferred from notes 1/5/2014
22 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Floral, grapefruit-citrus aromas kick off this one, and, once it mellows, some caramel malt and earthy aromas take over. There might also be some nuttiness buried in there as well - specifically walnut - but it seemed to come and go. A crystal clear amber-orange color is topped by a creamy white head leaving behind a light lacing as the drink progresses. A sharp hop bitterness greets the tongue on initial sipping, but this mellows to a more smooth bitterness complemented by a caramel malt sweetness with some citrus notes. This mellowing occurs both in the swallow and as the drink warms up. It’s a medium bodied beer with a light-low carbonation level. It’s not as sticky as I was expecting an Imperial, wet-hopped IPA to be, and in fact, is pretty dry and crisp. A not offensive, floral, spicy, citrus bittering is left behind in the aftertaste which sticks around for awhile
