I thought I had missed out on this beer but got lucky to hear Two Brothers had it on tap at Small Bar during Chicago's craft beer week. Really glad I made the drive now.

It came out with a thin head and beautiful copper red body. The smell and aroma from the beer was amazing; I picked up strong scents of green apple and lemon. The flavor was just as wonderful with a powerful, tart flavor balanced with a light, sweet finish. The complexity of sourness seemed to change and become more interesting the further I got into the glass, going from a slight vinegar finish after each sip to almost a floral flavor all around at the end of the glass. The only thing I felt was it could use a little more carbonation to balance the tart flavor and make it more perky.

Overall it was like a delicious whiskey sour in the form of a complex, well made wild ale. I have to say I am more than impressed with this offering by Two Brothers and almost upset with them that this is a one time brew. If I could buy this year round it would always be stocked in my refrigerator.

Served in a snifter, beer is amber and clear with a lazy head of small bubbles, some lacing, low retention though.

Aroma is lactic and bright, succinic acid maybe.

Beer is flavorful with a nice finish, light and effervescent on the palate, a good finish. Overall I did enjoy this beer and I'd have it again.

375ml gueuze-style green bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York. Brought back to Sydney to drink with @LaitueGonflable and @tobeerornottobe.

Pours a slightly hazed and chunkily sediment-disturbed orange-gold, very similar to a gueuze in this regard, with a crackling and alive head of fine white bubbles. Lacing is stretchy and patchy. Decent body, but almost no visible carbonation, which is surprising.

Nose is sharp and astringent, with big bold acidic tartness. It's slightly like very acidic fruit juice, and less of the robust, funky, rubbery characters you get off a good gueuze, but it really reminds me more of the Belgian style sour beers than the duskier, fuller American Wilds.

Taste is actually very pleasant, without a big spike of acidity, but without the too-full slightly sweet body that can sometimes come from a half-assed AWA. Here we have a pleasantly tart fruit character, with a crisp finish and lovely light mouthfeel that sharpens and directs the flavour into all the right zones. Exceptionally smooth for the sharpness and tartness; it softens the palate while staying exceptionally drinkable and refreshing.

Awesome American Wild: probably fair to say the best I've had that didn't come from Russian River. The crisp drinkability and the directness of the acidity really hark back to the canonical Belgian lambics, but the smoothness on the palate gives it that vault into the new world.

Pours surprisingly clear and orange, with a very small head. Smells like a pleasantly aged blend of oak, sour yeast, and fruit. Nothing too horribly complex or astounding, but a nice, solid blend.

Tastes about how it smells. Good fruit complexities balanced out well by the yeast--not punishingly sour, but still not so dulled that it seems like a cop out. There's a very nicely dulled, almost chocolately end to the sour, and this falls in to a really nice, yeasty finish.

Imma fucking with the rating system here, because this isn't quite as good as a 4.5 flavor so I'm saying it's 4.5 overall. Not quite, but still good.

A- This beer has a deep dried orange body with a slight hazy and a gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles. There is a bubble off-white head that last as a thick ring around the glass.

S- The very soft brett white cheese mold note has a cedar quality that comes through as it warms and an aged vinegar note in the finish.

T- The nice polite tartness blends with some old wood character and a soft fruit taste finishes with a bit of a tart bite.

M- The light mouthfeel as a soft astringency but no alcohol heat and a velvety fizz.

O- This beer has a nice subtle taste of a young wild ale. The tartness is soft but balances the flavor and the aroma is a bit softer.

Poured a clean orange/amber with a thick and creamy long lasting tan head, good carbonation running throughout the beer for a good long while.

The nose is very tart and a bit cidery, lightly sweet with some touches of tropical fruit mixing in with the funky bretty charachter.

The flavor is mildy sweet with a bit of apple and pear and a touch of white cheese, finishes with a dry tart funky basement quality, has just a bit of sourness at the very end.

The mouthfeel is creamy with a dry finish.

Very nice wild ale, nice combination of fruit notes and sour qualities.

Poured into a tulip, straight down the middle. Half an inch of crackling white foam rose up and receded after a few minutes, soon resembling filtered cider in the glass. Some irregular bits of spotty lace clung to the sides here and there. Sunset orange tone, good clarity with a very slight haze. It glints gold when it catches the light.

Lightly acetic cider nose, white wine vinegar, funky apple orchard, lemon and lime zest. Fruit forward and with a sharp hint of acidity.

Fruity taste with a moderately sour, acetic bite. Juicy apple, lemon, sour grape, some crabapple sharpness. Clean and effervescent, it dries up quickly, with a hint of Brett, crackery malt, and wet barrel oak in the dry aftertaste. Flavor is fruity and fairly complex, the woody hint in the aftertaste is pleasant too. Carbonation is light, and it has a fairly vinous character to it. Quenching and tasty.

Great to finally see Two Brothers bottle a sour ale from their foudres. Askew was even more enjoyable than previous wild ales Opus 10 and Philosophers Stone (though all were different stylistically). Hope this is a sign of more sour things to come...

Purchased in Columbus for $8.99. I actually passed on buying this for about a month, and after opening one today I plan to go back and buy several more tomorrow.

Poured into a Hill Farmstead wine-style glass. The beer is a hazy peach color, with a nice frothy wet looking foam. The nose is sour and a little acetic, almost gueuzy smelling. It's a mostly appetizing aroma, marred only by a tiny bit of nail polish.

Very tart, sour fruits of the lemon/apple/grape varieties. Very "wild" tasting, funky with a strong sour bite, burning ulcer-like aftertaste. Lighter than usual carbonation. Overall a very satisfying wild ale, and a surprise from Two Brothers.

Received 3x years ago (almost to the day) from Benpopper in a fantastic trade... Thanks Ben. Shared tonight with COOPMatt and Buckeyeboy. Pours a slightly hazed orange with a short-lived white head... still provides decent lacing.

Nose is big juicy and sour... a tiny bit acetic, but not bad given the age and the time spent in foudre... a bit of red wine and the brett really opened up on a later pour.

Flavor is sour, but not face-melting... surprisingly balanced... something that I associate with tannic pie cherries.. a touch acetic on the back-end and perhaps something that I associate with acetone, but I think Matt poisoned my well with that.

Nice body and carbonation... has held up surprisingly well... Thanks again Ben, we should hook up again some time.

3.75's across the board.

poured from a bottle into a snifter. Pours a light golden color with a 1" head

Very funky and complex with aromas of bruised apples, pears, funky aromas and some spice with a bit of tart citrus aromas as well

really good feel and medium bodied with a good amount of sour apple and funk flavors

this was a lot more funky than I remembered it to be. if I didn't see this, I'd actually thought it was a flemish red. This is a real quality sour and another real great job from two brothers

Pours an orangey-amber colour, bit of translucent haze in the body. Head is off-white, tiny dense bubbles forming a thin film of lace. Not bad.

Smell is funkaholic with mega tartness. Oooh, loveleh. Lots of vinegar notes with a sugar-cream edge, notes of raspberry, spiced pear and honeyed yoghurt. Underripe apple and barnyard as well. Lovely melange, erring oddly on the sweet side, but all the more enjoyable for it.

Taste also has that creamy edge, starting with malty notes giving condensed-milk-caramel notes before quickly turning tart, giving me strong citric notes with lemon juice, cranberry and vinegar, touch of tamarind late-mid but it's still quite subdued and not overpowering at all. Sour, mostly, with a maybe unfortunate residual sweetness lingering towards the back but in spite of its unwantedness it does temper the tart finish. Pleasant beer.

A little bit puckering from the start, and really ends up with a bit too much drag. You can feel it long after it's exited the mouth.

A decent cleansing sour beer, but some finesse is lacking. Maybe an additive to drive the tartness in a particular direction, or some more malt for balance, would be welcomed.

Poured from a corked and caged 12.7oz bottle into two small snifters. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist! Extra special thanks to Steve for the hook-up!

A: Pours a reddish orange tone with a bright white dallop of foam on top. Retention was good and lace was pretty plentiful.

S: Tart orchard fruit with vinegar overtones and a hint of funky basement.

T: Just as above with some damp barrel, grape skins, and funk.

M: Drying and relatively sharp. Nice juicy fruitiness that lends a little balance.

O: Impressive. Hopefully they'll ramp up their sour program down there in Warrenville.

Big thank to Carleton for the bottle, cheers buddy!

Very bubbly, golden apricot colored body. The body is fairly clear on the first pour. One and a half finger mounding, bone white head. The head recedes in short order, limited lacing left behind.

Pleasant aroma. Fair amount of funk, earthy mustiness up front. Cherry like fruitiness is set just behind. A bit of vinegar in noticed, balanced well with the other aromas. Nice oak aroma seems to provide cohesion to the nose as a whole.

Unexpectedly strong tart flavor hits hard and fast as the beer rolls from the glass. Green apple cider flavors are intense up front. Subtle cherry flavors are buried beneath, I really wish they had a strong presence. Pleasant oak flavor on the back of the palate. Very pleasant tasting beer, a bit too one dimensional though.

Just a smidge above light bodied. Very crisp thanks to the active carbonation. Slight buttery feel, very dry finish.

I enjoyed drinking Askew. Not the best AWA but a solid stab from a brewery still relatively new to the style. There are a handful of things that could be improved upon but you do not walk away from this beer disappointed. I am interested what Two Brothers comes out in the future, my interest is piqued.

Askew pours a largely clear peach skin hue, capped by a small head that recedes to a collar pretty quickly.

A lot of fruity lacto on the nose, with balsamic vinegar and slight acetone behind. Ripe stone fruit, strawberries, mild barnyard and nail polish. Pretty decent.

Tastes better than it smells. Quite sour and fruity, there are some nice strawberry, peach and pineapple flavors going on here. Very lactic and slightly stomach churning, though it narrowly avoids coming off as harsh.

Carbonation is on the lower end of medium, it could probably use a touch more, but it's not a large detraction. The finish is mild, lactic and fruity again, pretty mouth watering from the acidity.

Surprisingly good on the whole. Not in the upper tier of American sours, but better than I was expecting.

A: Dark orange with a big white head. Nice color and head retention.

S: Tart lemon with a moderate oak presence. Lightly lactic. Quite funky with hoarsy and cheese notes. Musty and earthy.

T: Piquant lemon with oak and musty notes. Faint wet leather with a little cheese. Hoarsy and goaty, surprisingly wild for an American sour. Upper moderate tartness finishing with a pronounced acetic acidity.

M: Light body with upper moderate carbonation. Dry, sticky, and lightly tannic mouthfeel.

Overall: This was a pleasant surprise. Recommended.

Bottle shared by Chris (spycow). I skipped this one after being burned by too many mediocre Two Brothers offerings, and by the time I saw the positive reviews it was too late. Served in a Hill Farmstead wine glass.

A - A finger of white foam settles to a thick collar showing solid retention, some wisps and negligible lace. Transparent dark golden body.

S - Huge grape and red wine vinegar flavors mingle with massive acetobacter, and a touch of light oak. As the beer warms up there's a light plastic note, but on the whole this is pretty good, if not nostril-singing.

T - Again, very grape-heavy with vinous oak, dry oak, and some light funk in the finish. There's a vague popcorn note that I get from some of the Santa Fe wild ales, but it's not as intense as those. Not as impressive as the aroma unfortunately.

M - Medium bodied, moderate-to-low carbonation level, and an extremely dry and tannic texture. No obvious alcohol, but I wasn't really expecting any.

D - This was pretty decent, albeit too pricey at $10 for a 375ml bottle. Still it's another step in the right direction for Two Brothers' sour program - I think I liked Hoodwinked a little better but this was enjoyable as well.

A- pours a slight hazed golden yellow color with a smallish white head that recedes to a fresh collar lots of carbonation

S- is tart funky fruit like apples and pears with wet lemon hay

T- starts with a nice tartness with fruit and and lemongrass,funky wet hay follows with white grapes and a sour slight vinegar finish

M- is very dry and tart has a great sour presence with nice carbonation..tastes like a good gueuze , very pleasant

O- a nice tasting wild that is both tart and sour and pleasant to drink
