This resiny imperial red ale is loaded with citrus and pine aromas that dominate the complex toasty malt character. Revel in the hops!

Bottled 9/19/16; drank 12/4/16 @ the Yarchives.

Semi-opaque ruby red appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small khaki head; nice tree-rung lace.

Cane sugar, raspberry & faint baking soda notes in the nose.

Medium thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Caramel, raspberry & cane sugar flavors up front; pine & baking soda notes on the finish. Dry grapefruit notes emerged as this warmed.

Too close to American Barleywine vibes for me; I wonder if this was better fresh...

12 oz. bottle:

Pours orange amber with a foamy white head that slowly but steadily descends to a lasting cap. Foamy web-like lacing sticks.

The smell is of dank pine, citrus/grapefruit, caramel, a touch of toast. Very powerful and rich - I can smell it upon opening the bottle.

The taste is of musty/dank pine and citrus. Classic red ale caramelized malt. Sweet and nutty. Alcohol shows in a peppery/spicy way. Pine resin, citrus and toast linger through the finish.

Hits full-bodied. The alcohol leaves a bit of a raw feeling on the tongue.

A great aroma here - A nice slow sipper overall. Hop-forward with a firm malt backing. A nice treat - American Imperial IPA meets Imperial Red Ale. Hops, malt and alcohol all assertive.

Globe; 12 oz bottle; dated 2955, putting the Julian date at the end of Oct., 2015.

Very nice head, and lacing. Decent aroma. lots of flavor, with a nicely bitter finish. Great creamy mouth-feel.

This is a great beer, almost like a double IPA but with a nice malt backbone and a little more character.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. "Lot 2946" FWIW. I have had this in years past, but this is my first time rating it. Head disappears quickly. Color is a warm amber. Smell is part malt, part dirty socks. Taste is alternately boozy, amber ale, and dishwater. Don't know if it's this batch or I've never really paid attention before, but wouldn't pick this up again.
