Two Brothers has always been one of my favorite breweries in the midwest, constantly pumping out awesome brews. Even when I lived in Illinois I never made it out there until recently when I was visiting my girlfriend. It's only a 30 minute-ish drive from her so we went for the free tour on a Saturday afternoon.

It was a bit difficult to find as the large white building had no clear signage and seemed in the midst of neighborhoods. The grain silo on the side of the building gave it away though. Even for a Saturday afternoon the lot was packed. We walked around the building trying to find which door to enter through and proceeded into the Brewers' Coop, a small little homebrew supply shop located in the building. We then entered the tap house and were seated without hesitation even for how busy it appeared.

Our server was nice and constantly checking up on us even thought we didn't order any food. The atmosphere was average in the tap house. Neutral colors were painted on the walls and the ceiling was exposed industrial-like rafters. The only real décor came from giant vinyl prints of Two Brothers beer labels on sheet metal all of which were bolted to the wall.

Then came the tour. It was rich in the history of the two Ebel, (pronounced "able" for those wondering) brothers and the start-up of Two Brothers Brewing Co. From there a little bit of the brewing process was shared but not as much as many other tours I've been on. The part that I found interesting, and also insulting, was when the tour guide began talking about their large oak Fodures from France they have. This wasn't so insulting initially until he asked the tour if anyone had previously had barrel-aged beer. When he asked me what the main flavor profile was and I replied, "bourbon", he proceeded to talk shit about bourbon-barrel aging beer and how it's "not traditional." Sorry, but the second you talk shit about Founders KBS, your appreciation of craft beer plummets in my book.

Following the insulation, we made our way to the bottling and packaging area where I learned something interesting; Two Brothers has their own distribution company next door. It's also always awesome to see pallets of beer ready to go to thirsty people. Overall the tour was mediocre, peppered lightly with comedy, and full of a good history lesson. Oh, you also get to drink on the tour, but it's gotta be a glass of beer purchased before departure. At the finish each tour-goer receives 3 tickets for 3 samples of Two Brothers beer.

Prices for Two Brothers' beer was fair but seemed pretty high for the food, which we didn't try because we ate before we got there. As far as selection went, I was pleasantly surprised at what Two Brothers was on tap. They also had guest taps (I believe - memory is a bit hazy) but I know they had a slew of bottles in a fridge behind the bar. These seemed a little over-priced as well but the selection of different choices was good. I can't say I'd make another trip out there without a specific reason, say, a special beer release, but I can say it was cool while I was there.

One of the most beautiful breweries you Wil find. Very good food. Beer is average to good. Bar keep was also taking orders of tables. That was a let down.

This is a really great place to go have dinner and a beer or three. There is a nice bar are that has a good amount of tvs to watch sports or whatever else may be on as well as a true dining area that is a bit quieter and more relaxed. Noise is not high, but not low either due to the low ceiling. There is a lack of visible metal so that helps dampen the noise quite a bit. Food options are wide ranging and are all very well prepared. The beer list is extensive with a wide variety of options from their year-long offerings to seasonals and special one time or small batch releases. Service was quick, efficient, and very nice/upbeat. Definitely a place that I will go back to.

-Greeted by raw beer ingredient smell upon entering. That might appeal to some, but I don't like it much. Interior is pretty bare bones, but in a much less cool way than the usual 'stark industrial' look many brewpubs have. A screened-in outdoor section is fun for a nice day.
-Good selection of beer, both their own on draft and guest bottles. There's usually some brewery-only and R&D beers available, all good-great+.
-Food is not gourmet, but it's pretty darn good for bar food. Think sandwiches, fries, quesadillas, etc.
-Service is great.
-Small window to peer into the brewing floor.
-Merch and clothing, glassware, even raw beer ingredients are available for sale.

It isn't much to look at, but this is a pretty essential and enjoyable place for a western (far western) suburbs brewery tour.

I've only been here twice, but each time I was treated well and the second time (several days later) I was remembered promptly, along with my preferences, when I sat down at the bar.
They currently don't brew the beer here, but in Illinois. I look forward to see how their recipes translate to here and have the opportunity to chat with the brewers themselves.
Food is better than typical bar fare, a broad variety of tastes, good happy hour deal (half off all appetizers). Biggest challenge would be parking, but coming here when Happy Hour opens at 4pm means there's plenty of street parking nearby.
I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a nice, convivial, not too trendoid kind of place, that's definitely not too Scottsdale.
