Great place! It was a great find when visiting my friend at Kent State. Everyone was really friendly and made you feel welcome. They also had a wide variety of local and out of state beers to choose from.

Great bottle shop. The bar is just OK. Beer is a bit overpriced at the bar and on my last visit with my wife and another couple, everyone's beer was rather flat! Go to Ray's in Kent for an awesome selection and a much better value!

The moment I walked in it was like the eye-popping experience of my first time in a gigantic toy store as a kid.

101 has an impressive selection of brews, with knowledgeable employees that know when local IPAs came in fresh, who they sell and don't sell anymore, what kind of distribution breweries have, etc.

They provide a very deep mix six section, as well as a bar to taste a good selection of things they do, and even don't, currently have on sale.

Fantastic selection, knowledgeable and helpful but not pushy guy working the counter. Even my non-drinking wife liked this place. Lots of local (Ohio) selections. Will be stopping by every time I'm in Kent.

A solid beer shop worth visiting at if you're in Kent, although not worth the drive down from Cleveland alone. Selection is good, plenty of sixers and bombers all refrigerated. You will likely be paying $1 more per item than most other stores, though. They do have a singles section, but it is small and also pricey. The bar has a nice atmosphere and 25 taps, usually a good diverse list, and there is also a small patio. Draft prices can be pretty steep on the more unusual beers though, compared to other places. Staff is mostly college kids, but usually friendly and helpful, but I wouldn't expect quite as much knowledge and professionalism as Lizardville.

Great place to go for beer. I come here fairly often after work to have a glass or two with my coworkers. The selection is fantastic for such a small place, and the service is incredibly friendly. I've also never been disappointed ordering from the huge array of delicious craft brews on tap.
I highly recommend going here at least once!

Fantastic selection and a great tasting room with an awesome selection of beer that changes often. They have some wonderful events including Tap Takeovers and the occasional food truck. I have never been disappointed with Bottles 101.

Probably the best beer selection in Kent. You definitely need to hit the tasting room and browse the selection while sipping on an amazing beer.

Neat little tasting room and good bottle shop, but a step behind Lizardville in price and tap selection, and service. Some good taps on, but you have to find them yourself as list badly out of date. Most beers sold are refrigerated, and few six packs broken up.

This place is pretty awesome. 101 Bottles of Beer on the Wall always has an absolutely stellar tap selection. Constantly rotating kegs. You are bound to find at least a few brews you enjoy on draft. A few perks... you are able to have a drink while you shop, and you can buy and fill a growler or just simply have your $4 Acme growler filled while you are there (that's me).

Food? OK, so they don't provide food at this place but there is a penn station right next door and a heated patio to enjoy a few beers and sub in the fall/winter time (or spring / summer).

The bottle selection is unlike any other in the area. They have some of most rare beers you could ever imagine (from a local shop). They have all your regular big name beers but so many beers that I almost guarantee you have not tried or have not been able to find (bold statement, I know).

They also have a cooler filled with with Kegs. Anything from your typical BMC beers or the more rare DFH 90 Minute kegs (again, sure there is something to spark your interest).

If you or someone you know is not a beer drinker, there is plenty of wine to choose from as well!

101 Bottles is about a 30-40 minute drive for me and I never leave disappointed. Service is hit or miss. They people that work their know beer! They love to talk brews and suggest beers you might like. Other times, they simply don't want to talk to anyone (I'll leave it at that :) ).

Also, they often have beer events including brewery tap takeovers. Recently they have had Bells Brewery, local winter / Christmas beers, and Three Floyds (in a few weeks) tasting/ tap takeovers.

Bottles is pretty consistent with a good variety of beers to try. The bar tenders are all pretty great folks and always provide a nice and much calmer atmosphere to any other bar in Kent. I find myself always looking forward to checking their listing each week for what new beers were added to the draught list. Most of the bar tenders there are also extremely knowledgeable and offer great insight. I definitely appreciate that. They provide a lot more than a bar with a billion IPAs on tap and for someone who isn't a big IPA fan, I like that.

A most impressive collection of brews. Fully stocked shelves AND coolers. You can also mix/match your own 6 pack. I've been to a LOT of beer stores, and this place can hang with the best of them. Personnel were knowledgeable of the beers. Being able to have a great draft and walk around the place whilst shopping or browsing a nice plus. Clean in the store, at the bar, and even in the men's room. This place is definitely worth looking up. Its not in a prominent place, but you won't be disappointed if you look it up.

A: Wow ! Shop for great beer and drink great tap selections while you shop ! Awesome !

Q: top notch quality all-around at this place, plus a nice patio, and if you like order a sub from next door and they will bring it over.

Serv: The guy knew his beer, and had his favorites to reccomend as well, pretty steady stream of customers and he knew alot of them by name, very good service, plus he threw in a couple of the store pint glasses in !

Sel: Wow ! top-notch selections ! Coolers all along the walls, snelves of beer, boxes, displays, walk-ins, tons of beer. I found the Alesmith family and scored Horny Devil, Old Numbskull, and Speedway Stout. Then I see Nightstalker in the cooler, 4 of them, plus 6 on the shelf ! Crazy !Found a Las Vegas Imperial Stout - Tenaya Creek, Epic Brainless on Peaches and Cherries, Troegs Doublebock and Flying Mouflan.

F:n/a unless you order from next door.

V: I think the prices were in line, no gouging here.

Why do half the reviews of this place mention Riverside? Interesting.

Anyway, this place has gotten 10 times better since the addition of the bar. There are over 20 tap handles to choose from, and it's all craft; no macros here. They also have a good assortment of flights, and from what I've heard, they have a good stock lined up for when kegs blow.

The atmosphere is quaint, since it's tucked to the side of the store. You can enjoy a beer without bothering the customers, and vice-versa. The crowd seems to be mainly beer geeks, with a few college kids coming over to try something new, which is always nice. I'd rather have a frat boy drinking Scrimshaw rather than Natty.

Service is pretty good. You get your beers quick, and the bartenders are pretty knowledgeable. They are the same guys/gals from the counter, so its a familiar face in a new role. I have one complaint about this, but I'll get to that later.

Selection, like I said earlier, is awesome. They have the standard fare for this area (Great Lakes, Thirsty Dog, Brew Kettle), along with some things that are pretty rare for the area (Alpha Klaus, Rogue Imperial Stout,). They've really done their homework on this.

Overall, it's a great place to hang out, have a beer, and relax. Some of the bartenders could be a little less "beer-snobby" and not show off everything they know, and the music selection is pretty bad, but overall, it's a great place.

Anymore this is my preferred place to buy beer to go in Kent. Their selection is much better than Riverside, and prices are fairly comparable.

Huge selection that isn't crazy picked over in half a day like many shops. Amazing draft list that's always changing. Also they always have fun events scheduled throughout the year.

One of my favorite bars in the state. Not just for the beer, but for the people who work there.

Six packs are right are about even as far as other places around. Bombers are the same to a bit pricey for the same stuff you'd get down the street. Great selection though. All beer is kept in coolers.

Sometimes it's hard to not get annoyed at the 15 college kids waiting to buy cases of bmc light pong beer that are in your way but who cares.

Great place, employees will literally call the distro right when you're there to answer questions for you.

Great shop that I try to go in ever ytime I'm in the Kent area.

I don't live near Bottles 101 anymore, but whenever I'm in the area I always make a stop. Their selection is terrific. Find a lot of beers I can't find other places. I haven't been to other beers stores in the immediate area in in some time so I can't compare, but it would be hard to believe that Bottles 101 doesn't have the best selection. The only minor complaint about the selection is that it is all in coolers, no beer on shelves. Some may think that is a good thing, but I'm traveling long distances with my beer generally and would prefer to buy it at room temp most of the time. Pretty minor though. And they have a ton of yellow fizzy swill but they are in a college town and have to in order to stay in business.

As far as the service goes, I'm not really sure what the people who have rated this place's service poor are thinking really. It's been great for me. They leave you alone, unless you have questions or ask for their opinion. And if you ask for their opinion, they give you an honest answer as to what they think. They don't try to push any certain beers on you just to get them out the door and make a sale. They tell you what they like and what they think is worth trying. Isn't that what they should do?

Personally, it's one of my favorite beers store to visit. I'll be back again for sure.

Visited this place for the first time since I moved away from Akron 5 years ago on 10/14/2011. Honestly, not much has changed, which is both good and bad. This place easily has one of the best selections of singles in Northeast Ohio, which features not only Ohio brewers, but also many other prominent craft breweries; however, singles are sold at inflated prices (about 25% over their 6 pack cost). Their selection of 4/6 packs is also quite good, but really did not contain anything that I cannot find elsewhere; however, considering that Kent is a college town, 101's selection is quite impressive while still paying homage to the walk-in of Natty, Keystone, and Beast.

101 has an extensive wine selection, if you are into that sort of thing. If anything, this appears to be more of a wine shop than a beer store, which is interesting to say the least. Glassware was non-existent, or at least I did not see any. Service was so-so. I did not want or expect to be helped, which is good because the staff seemed more interested in eating lunch than helping. Overall, not a bad shop that is about as I remember it, but not necessarily worth going out of the way to visit.

This is my closest go-to place, because their selection is the best in the Akron area (though it's in Kent). 101 Bottles is about 25 minutes from me, and I need to drive about 45-50 minutes to get to a store that I like better.

The service is hot or miss. I could see some of the employees being pretentious, but I have no problems with them.

Their prices can be a bit higher than some other places (Southland Beverage) -- especially for single bottles. Sometimes they have some crazy cheap clearance prices on some beers. They are the only place I know within 30 minutes of Akron that sells 1/6 barrel kegs from multiple breweries. The selection is in the upper echelon for Northeast Ohio

I stopped by this place on the way home from a track meet this past weekend. I was very happy with the selection, a rarity for the area. There were plenty of beers that I had been searching for quite some time that were available in ample quantity.
I have two complaints though. I bought two 6-packs of winter ales that ended up being 24 dollars. They were certainly not of the caliber of Great Lakes' Christmas Ale, making them very much over priced. I can get an entire case of GLCA for 47 dollars from the overpriced brew pub downtown Cleveland. But I wanted to try the suggestion of the employee's. Which leads me to my second complaint, the employees working at the time I visited were very short with me. While I may be young, I do know beer. Yet, every question was met with a short answer or even a non-answer. I'm not usually one to complain, but I could not believe when the employee told me that the GLCA was the worst Christmas Ale ever made and reluctantly suggested the Smuttynose and Breckenridge Winter Ales.
I'll visit again, but only after knowing exactly what I want by looking at the reviews on Beeradvocate.com.

This place is friggin unbelievable. They have a great selection I haven't seen anywhere.Maybe I don't get out of the house enough. But I was checking out everything they had. Like they have St.Peters,Sierra nevada,Ayinger, Brooklyn,Coopers,Chimay, Lagunitas, other belgians etc.

They have a mix and match cooler.Where you can buy single beer.THe prices I'd say are average though some seemed a lil higher.THey have a nice wine selection as well.Definitely a place to go if your in Kent.I would recommend this place if your looking for hard to find beers.

I was in Kent today and decided to stop in a place I haven't been in years. I forgot just how much selection the place has. A large selection of wine and walls of beer coolers. Many different styles and breweries are featured throughout the store. The staff is friendly and laid back.

The coolest part to stop in would be the mix and match six-packs(the reason I stopped in). Grab an empty six pack holder and go to town searching out your selection of beers. It's the perfect way to try new beers or makes a great last minute gift for your fellow beer geek.

Ask any KSU student and they will tell you Bottles 101 is the place to find just about any beer you could want.

Well they definitely have more than 101 bottles of beer I will say that! I drive about 45 minutes to get here but it is worth it every time! You can always find some really good stuff here that noone else seems to carry! I was up a couple weeks ago and found some Beer Geek Brunch, which I found nowhere else! They have a pretty good single bottle selection and probably 3 or 4 double door coolers filled with bombers and 750 ml's. They normally just have some cute little college girl jockeying the registed, so I dont expect much for customer service but thats ok because with their selection I will keep coming back and back!

Proud to say I'm straight outta K-towne, and this place doesn't seem outta the way if you grew up 'round here! I mean, it's right by Kinko's and Bruno's and News & Photo. Who doesn't know that?

This is my go-to beer place every time I'm in Kent, and I've been going there since the freaking place opened--it has only gotten better. They always have the best prices around and an amazing selection for this area. Hell, an amazing selection for ANY area--I have to travel 45 minutes by subway here in New York to find anything comparable.

Looking for some good midwest beer? Here you'll find sixtels of Great Lakes (I picked up a li'l keg of the Commodore Perry for a buddy's bachelor party last summer) and other local treats like that.

Wonderful selection of midwest beers in bottles, especially for the out-of-state visitor: Bell's, Founders, Great Lakes, Hoppin' Frog, New Holland, Mad Brewer, Thirsty Dog, Barrelworks.

Lots of great craft brew from elsewhere: AleSmith, Avery, Brooklyn, Rogue, Stone, and many, many more.

Plus a very solid Belgian assortment: Chouffe, Rodenbach, Corsendonk, and many others.

Here's the verdict: This place is the best beer store in town. Riverside, formerly the best beer store in town, has gotten rid of all of their single bottles and many of their bombers. Riverside is now the best beer bar in town, having dedicated more space to seating than bottled beer (much to my chagrin), but 101 Bottles reigns as far as takeout beer selection. You won't regret it if you FIND THIS PLACE IN KENT!!!

I agree that this place is a little tucked away. It's off of a main road in a plaza and there are not a lot of signs to point you where to go. I like this place because of it's convenience. It is close to campus and actually has a decent selection of brews. I know too many college towns where the only option within walking distance is a gas mart with Natty light. a nice change of pace in this town. Service is alright, not exceptionally knowledgeable about their products but friendly. It's not too crowded either. I'll be coming back to this place for a while.

Had to travel to Kent State to reconfigure servers and found this place in the Beerfly so I HAD to pay this place a visit.

A little bit hidden and I didn't spot it at first but the GPS insisted that it was there. The store itself is just an unassuming storefront with a parking lot with no discernible parking lines.

Inside it is open and uncramped with all the beers in coolers and there are far more than 101 beers here. Lots of beers from all over present including the West Coast and Europe. Clean but no hand baskets.

Pretty much a self serve place with just a college kid at a cash register.

Very good prices, six-pack of Lion Stout for $7.50 I usually pay $10.

Semi-hidden place worth the visit if you are in the area. Don't know the area all that well but this is a far better than average beer store.
