Very Good
LaGraveLaGrave
Notes: Inspired by nature's untamed beauty, LaGrave (pronounced \l?-gräv\) is the first of our 12.7-oz. corked and caged bottle releases. Bottle conditioned and highly carbonated, this Triple Golden Ale is steeped in the tradition of strong ales originally brewed in Belgium. The unique Belgian yeast forms the bedrock of LaGrave’s complex flavors. Strong and alluring at 8% ABV, LaGrave boasts a sweet, fruity flavor with a well-rounded mouthfeel and semi-dry, lingering bitter finish.

I had this beer at the brewery. I think it's one of troegs best, though I wouldn't call it a beer. It was more like a champagne. Fruity, sweet, with a big head.

Heed the bottle's warning: pour it slowly and carefully. Everything about the beer is above average, but it leaves just a hint of aftertaste that isn't as smooth as the rest of it. It's a very good beer from a cool little brewery, and I'd drink it again.

Poured a hazy golden color with a one finger white fizzy head that dissipated quickly. Decent amount of carbonation bubbles. Mild lacing present. Nose is fresh and very light lemon and spice. Fruity flavor with mild sweetness. Highly carbonated with medium-light body.

Picked up a 4 pack, and then noticed that this a 'vintage' edition - bottled 12/31/2015.

Poured into a troegs chalice: color is hazy gold/copper, head is bright white and thick about 1 inch, some lacing and very thick lingering top.

Smell is semi-sweet, almost braggot like, but then belgian yeast finishes, pretty dry otherwise.

Taste is similar to the aroma lead in with more noticeable malt character. Flavors are semi-sweet malt, touch of biscuit like flavor, then light clove and phenol from the belgian yeast. There is hard to define character of the aging (without cellaring) that is noticeable - similar character to many actual Belgian ales - an aged malt character blended with aging yeast in the bottle.

Mouthfeel is light sweetness at first, then the zip of the carbonation and drying finish clean it up leaving a fullness on the tongue.

Overall another great one from Troegs - this and Jovial - are pleasant additions in a somewhat thin Pennsylvania belgian style market. This one seems to be maltier than many Tripels, not by much but noticeable and pleasant. Aged yeast and malt character is unique is well.

A-Big rocky white head that slowly disappears with a hazy golden pour

S-pale malts, citrus, peppery spice, Belgian yeast

T-taste is somewhat light with a pale malt backbone, spices, citrus, light fruity sweetness, Belgian yeast, and a mild bitter finish

M-medium body, light to medium carbonation

Overall I really enjoyed this offering, usually American breweries fall short on Tripels, but this is pretty good.
