Notes / Commercial Description:
Continuing our focus on India Pale Ales, we brewed Scratch #144 with a very worthy cause in mind. Ales for ALS™ is a nation-wide program benefitting the ALS Therapy Development Institute (TDI), the world’s leader in ALS research. ALS (better known as Lou Gehrig's disease) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease with no known cure. Loftus Ranches, one of the Yakima Valley's longest running hop farms, has partnered with premium hop supplier Hopunion to develop a proprietary hop blend, which we used exclusively in Scratch #144. So raise a glass to this worthwhile charity, because Tröegs will donate a portion of all proceeds from sales of this beer to the ALS TDI. Cheers!

Firkin Dry Hopped w/ Simcoe.

A - Pours golden yellow with a nice one and a half finger tall white head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small streaks of lace down the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of pungent Simcoe hops, fresh cut grass, bit of tropical fruit from the base hops, caramel sweetness and some lightly toasted malt. Smells awesome thanks to all those extra Simcoe hops.

T - Starts off with a mix of fresh cut grass and the dank Simcoe hop bitterness slowly being joined by the caramel, toasty malt, dulled tropical fruit and a touch of booze. Finish is chewy bitter, lingering long after the finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, hoppy feel makes it very easy to consume. Usually not a fan of cask IPA's thanks to the dulled feel but this one was quite nice.

O - Probably my favorite firkin of the four left over. The Simcoe hops really complemented the base hops and the cask smoothed out the feel just enough. Can't wait to try the regular draft version of this one.
