Pours a yellowish amber color with a decent head. Hoppy aroma with a bit of grain. Hop forward, slightly dank with a slightly sweet malt backbone to keep everything in check. Mouthfeel is on the thin side, but that doesn't stop this from being a solid, well crafted, easy to drink IPA. Not earth shattering, but definitely enjoyable and worth a purchase.

There comes a time in everyone's beer-life when a beer doesn't have to wow you into vocal jubilation, nor stun you with complex flavors---balanced precariously at the precipice of the craft---in order to be a good beer. Nay, sometimes you just want a beer that's crisp, refreshing, and pairs well with a simple meal.

That beer is Troegs Blizzard of Hops. Not super hoppy, low bitterness, doesn't stand out in a crowd of other beers. Just a good, all-rounder, IPA you can crack open with a steamy slice of pepperoni pizza without worrying about whether its had enough time to breathe, or if it's reached its optimal temperature, or if it will have its special nuances overridden by the savory spices inherent in a good, pizza dinner. Just crack it open and down the hatch.

Sometimes the simple things must reign us in and remind us that the middle of the road isn't a bad part of the road to trod.

The beer pours a white and foamy, voluminous head that dissipates at a slow place. The beer itself is a hazy pale gold that looks nice.
The smell is good. It has a nice orange rind smell with light pine notes around the edges and a grainy malt smell as well.
The taste is good. It has the same notes but the pine is a bit more stronger than the orange rind note while the malt is basically gone.
The body is good. It has a thin but medium body that has a slightly sticky finish. The tingling carbonation is there.
Overall, it's a good winter IPA and worth getting.

Troegs - always a favorite as with most Mid-Atlantic Crafts. Winter IPA is a perfect idea and this could be its best expression.
a) Did not expect the pilsner like look, but it works like Carton coffee does to jar the senses. Fluffy white head supports lace over a slight hazed golden yellow body.
s/t ) Light colored fruit salad (pale melon, honeydew, white apple/ grape, light grapefruit)...
Followed by sugary middle, like candy or white frosting, fruit cake, and balanced by a nice white peppery hop bite finale.
f) Thinner, balanced, spritzy, wine like.
o) Candy like to the end, but never too sweet. (good with xmas candies, panatone, cakes)

Decanted from a 12 oz (355 ml) can into a custom taster pint; freshest by 02/27/2020.
A: Pours an ever so slightly hazy, golden color with a two finger, dense, foamy, white head, solid, more than cap and rim retention, and foamy lacing.
S: Aromas of grapefruit, lemon, caramel, and pine.
T: Remarkably dry. Flavors mirror the nose. Solid, but rather balanced bitterness, given the overall picture.
M: Medium bodied with moderate to robust carbonation.
O: Blizzard Hops is a very dry, very drinkable, and very, very enjoyable interpretation of the AIPA style. Almost a Brut (which I like, even if it is a fad).

From a can with BB date 2/29/2020

Translucent deep gold with slight orange tint. Moderate quickly-dissipating course white head. Leaves a fine ring , with a few spots of lacing.

Smell is tangerine, with a slight floral (goldenrod?) element, honey, dried lemon rind, wet grass, and a resinous aroma. (Piney, but not quite "pine" - pine+juniper?). It's all blended, with only the tangerine standing out. Essentially , basic IPA aroma.

Taste is mixed citrus , slight pine, floral, straw, and a touch of biscuity malt. Moderately bitter.

Feel is medium, and quite smooth, with very fine carbonation tingle throughout.

Overall, very enjoyable & easy-drinking. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

This is one of those beers you need to drink fresh and the "Best By" is on the bottom of the can. If you can get it fresh it is a nice light bodied IPA at 6.4% featuring Centennial, Chinook, Galaxy and El Dorado hops with no crap added. I live 10 miles from the brewery so getting it fresh is no problem for me unfortunately it does not age well and if you pick up a six past the best by date you may have a bad experience but that fact in itself goes to show that it is a quality brew with no crap added.

Look: Hazy gold/straw color with a thin, whitish head.
Smell: Gorgeous, complex hop aroma. Floral, herbal, minty. A bit of vanilla. Juicy strawberry.
Taste: Lemon, grass, mint, herbs, chamomile. Lots of orange and grapefruit. Herbal spiciness with some toasty malt sweetness. Some herbal, slightly soapy bitterness on the finish.
Feel: Medium-bodied. Crisp and spicy.
Overall: The look, smell, taste, and feel all combine for a complex, juicy, herbal mixture. This is a great beer!

Cloudy light yellow pour. Smells great. Pineapple and floral aroma. A milder taste. Sweet and not overly hoppy. Falls a little flat but not bad. I definitely wouldn't say a blizzard, maybe a light snow shower.

Great brew - not sure what classifies it as a "winter IPA" other than the time of year it comes out, but it's a great one. Piney, resinous smell, joined with some solid dank in taste, and a very crisp and dry finish.

Hazy, translucent golden yellow with a white cap of head. Good retention. Streaky lacing.
Smells of lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, and pine.
Tastes of lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, white bread, and pine. Lightly dry and well rounded with a lightly bitter finish.
Medium-bodied, well carbonated, lightly creamy and soft, and just slightly sticky-resinous on the finish.
A very pleasant wheat IPA from Troegs. Good beer.

12oz can bb 2/22/19 poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 6.4% ABV 80 IBU. The beer pours hefe-hazy orange tinted yellow in color with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is tangerine, candied orange and pine. The taste is piney first then switches to a lemon lime with firm bitterness. There is a bit of cough drop / pine sol artificial taste in the mix of hops. The mouthfeel is thin bodied, adequately carbonated and dry in the finish. Overall, good. It's an different take on an IPA (especially for a winter seasonal) with the thin malt body and Centennial, Chinook, Galaxy & El Dorado combo.

Citrus, tropical, and pomme fruit aromas, along with some pine.
Lightly bready malt, pomme fruit, a bit of citrus
Nice mouthfeel and carbonation.

Pours a medium golden color and provides a balanced malt and hop melange in the nose that carries through to the taste. Solid bitterness through to the aftertaste that is never overpowering but just smolders gently. A little bit of pepper joins the grapefruit and pine. Solid effort again from this brewer.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Light yellow pineapple juice looking body with some haze to it. Thin bodied, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Really easy to drink but it has a nice piney hop bite. A very solid winter IPA that I would definitely drink again.

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass.

L---Cloudy golden color. Nice white head that faded slowly and left nice lacing.

S---Citrus (lemon/lime) as advertised. Maybe a touch of pine.

T---Lemon/lime again. Some light grapefruit & spice. Mild pine.

F---Juicy & wet. Feels more like a summer beer than a winter one (to the extent that that is actually a thing). Well carbonated.

O---A quality IPA. I don't know what a winter IPA is, so my rating may be off because of that. I'd get this one again, though.

Smooth and favorable. Subtle notes of pine and citrus and they go down real easy! Deep gold color lights up a snifter with an almost a champagne-like appearance. I believe this one may be way underrated.

I got this off the single shelf at Kroger in Dayton near Metro sports. It poured a hazy orangish with white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had dank hop with pine presence. The taste was slightly bitter with some pine and grapefruit. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer.

the idea of a winter ipa is intriguing to me, i always thought it would mean more malty, maybe some rye in there, or more crystal richer malts, but in the few i have had this winter season, that doesnt really seem to be the case, although i would argue that winter ipa as a style is still very much open to interpretation, and this really settles nothing to that end. pretty golden in color and just off clear, there really doesnt seem to be anything too distinct about the malt base of this, despite my expectations. its wheat colored, and it has that smell as well, but its simple and light, crackery, and way behind the hops. the hops are great, both fruity and piney in aroma and flavor, northwestern in bitterness and overall intensity, oily too, but then i get a tropical complexion with notes of white grape and pineapple too, honey, orange zest, and even candy. its really dramatic, and its really good, a little more pungent in smell than taste, but delicious and fresh. it feels a little wheaty, slightly richer but not sweet at all, fluffy and extending, some pils malt european character too. a very drinkable ipa, troegs has always had a really nice handle on the hoppy stuff, and this is a tasty new one. id crush a sixer of these, even though nothing about it seems particularly wintery to me...
