I hate that this was such a miss for me. I've tried to give Tröegs a chance repeatedly but ultimately have found their offerings to be pretty forgetful. This though was the least memorable of all their beers I've tried. The only thing that sticks out about it is how light in color it is in comparison to my expectation for an IPA. I found myself taking another sip to remember what the last sip tasted like, over and over. As many have said, with such a vast number of IPAs on the market, I personally won't be revisiting this one.

I def like the idea of a different hoppy beer per season, depends on what hops they use and how they put the beer together, needs to match the season.. But could be cool. Bottled 10/21/14.

Pours a light fizzy airy bubbly head hits 1/2 finger then fades at a med pace, decent lacing, very clear honey yellow orange color.

Nose brings some decent hops, a little grassy, but some light pine and orange peel, a little citrus and touch of resin, with plenty of candied orange peel zest, mild apricot like fruit, candied fruit marmalade, mild sweet candy malt.

Taste brings sweet malt at first, not super sweet but a candy like base, with decent hops, fruity hops mostly, generic tree fruit and candied marmalade like fruit, with light citrus notes, bubblegum fruits, and a little resin. Some orange peel notes, with decent bitterness and rind, a little wheat I think with touch of creamy taste, and some floral grassy spicy like hops. Finish is pretty bitter, a little spicy hops, little grassy and floral hops lingering as well, with touches of candied orange peel.

Mouth is med soft bodied, a little creamy, decent carb.

Overall pretty nice, good hop character and nice malt balance, with a little candied like fruit flavors, quite enjoyable, esp for a winter style beer.

Smooth and favorable. Subtle notes of pine and citrus and they go down real easy! Deep gold color lights up a snifter with an almost a champagne-like appearance. I believe this one may be way underrated.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into Pilsner glass.

A: Crystal-clear, pale yellow/straw color. Active, short head leaves behind solid film, and plenty of streaky lacing. By appearance, I'm thinking this ISN'T going to be a full-bodied beer.

S: Light, citrusy. Mild hints of damp hay, cut grass, but nothing remotely overwhelming. Reminds me of a good-quality Pilsner, but doesn't speak out profoundly.

T: Flavor really follows the nose. Inoffensive, light tart/citrus qualities, with a barely-there hint of malts (I understand that the malts used in Blizzard are not the roasted, "aggressive" kinds of malts; some additional malt depth would be nice). Alcohol is virtually undetectable.

M: Crisp. Light-to-medium carbonation, and the resiny, astringent quality of the hops gradually builds throughout.

O: A good beer, but not a great beer. I'd think this was a Summer offering if I didn't know better. I will say, however, that it would be a great "entry-level" IPA for someone who wants to acclimate to IPA's. It has the requisite qualities without being too "in-your-face".

Very smooth and easy to drink. I feel it's closer to a pale ale than an IPA. I agree with others, not very wintery

Thick snow-white head atop a bright yellow brew. Excellent, transparent clarity. Great head retention and lovely lacing.

Hop-forward aroma: pineapple, mango, grapefruit pulp, a touch of lemon, and a flowery, berry-like sweetness. Slightly dank. Slightly sweet, biscuity pale malt.

Sweet, juicy hop flavors on the palate, fairly balanced with a smooth, honey-like malt sweetness. Similar flavor notes to the aroma: pineapple, ruby red grapefruit, and peach. Slight vegetal notes. Lacking in bitterness.

For such a bright hop aroma, the body is almost disappointingly light, but this isn't supposed to be a DIPA. It's smooth and drinkable, with moderate sting.

I'm very surprised at the relatively low rating on this beer; it seems to really hit a lot of the notes people love about modern IPAs. Nit-picking, I'd say it veers a little toward syrupy at times, and it could use more bitterness. It is, however, very flavorful and tasty.

12 oz bottle pours a super-clear light gold with a dense cap of white head. Retention decent, lacing excellent.

Nose is piney and citric hops, almost tropical like Amarillo. Malts GTFO the way...juicy nugs.

Taste is a refreshing hop flavor with a mild minty aspect that plays well with the rest of the hop flavors. Light malts and mild mouthfeel make this downright chuggable. Bitterness and sweetness are kept to a minimum. Great, original take on a winter beer.

On-tap 1/4/2015 at Battleship Brewhouse in Fall River, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light yellow color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, grassy hops and light caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a strong fruity citrus sweetness. Then a piney bit not too strong hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is light but brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Very tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a very solid IPA to drink for a long time.

A: Pours a clear pale to medium yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation with a faint amount of golden yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy white head that slowly reduces to a mottled thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit and tropical/melon/pineapple hops over a lighter aroma of grainy malts.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of sweet grainy malts. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of citrus/grapefruit and tropical/melon/pineapple hops that imparts a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades relatively quickly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Hints of dryness in the finish.

O: This is a nice easy to drink IPA with pretty solid hop aromas and flavors without too much associated bitterness. Easy to drink and refreshing.

Appearance: As others have noted, this looks like a pilsener, with a fluffy whipped egg white head perched atop the clear golden liquid; nice webby lacing

Smell: Very fruity, like a fruit salad, with pink grapefruit, cantaloupe, honeydew and Delicious apple tones

Taste: The malt is slightly sweet, up front, like the shortbread in those holiday cookie tins, with the hop flavors bringing the range of fruit that I detected in the aroma (pink grapefruit, cantaloupe, honeydew and Delicious red apple); there is a unique flavor that appears, after the swallow, that is reminiscent of fruit cake, as the sugary malts interplay with the with fruity hops; the finish adds just a touch of bitterness to remind you that this is, after all, an IPA

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: It took me a while to wrap my brain around this beer as I was expecting something very different; my interpretation differs from most all of the other reviewers and perhaps I am way off base; still, I rather enjoyed this for what is - not a tongue slaying AIPA, but something quite different

Had this on 2014-12-17 and 2015-11-29 at the brewery

A nice tasting IPA; light on the malt though. Plenty of pine, hop floral, melon and mild dank. Touch of earthy spice. I prefer the recent Hop Knife though.

Thanks to Shroud0fDoom for this brew in his box from NBS BIF #1. 120z bottle poured into 10oz goblet. Poured a clean, clear pale gold color, this beer looked like a very nice Pilsener, which is no way to win GABF medals, but is a way to make a very lovely beer. The 1/8 inch of white head had very low retention, but very good-to-excellent lacing.

The aroma featured lots of pine and floral hops over a lightly grainy malt base. The flavor profile featured the malt, and the same pine and floral hops, but added some citrusy bitterness to the finish.

The body light, crisp, and had a tangy dry finish. This beer drinks dangerously easily, you could crush a sixer before you realized it. Overall, a very, very good beer, borders on a must-try, but honestly, one would just be silly to pass it by.

Poured into a standard pint a very light golden with a thin wispy white head that was gone pretty quickly, not overly impressed with the looks. Some tropical fruit from the hops and sweet sugary notes in the nose wich were really pronounced on the palate.A nice shot of fruity hops upfront but that sugary sweetness comes up big as well, almost DIPA in its sweetness.I was expecting something a little better,to sweet to drink more than one or two for me.

A nice hoppy India Pale Ale with light wintry spices and notes. I'm getting spruce, pine, anf some citrus. Very refreshing. The hops do not over power the spice or vice versa.

Reasonable head, not even, but plenty of lacing . Bottle says color=deep gold, but I would not call it deep. Aroma is pretty good, heavy citrus, mild pine. Wouldn't mind an air freshener that smelled like this.
Taste is not as good as the smell, but not bad. Pretty clean.
Overall, it did not blow me away, but I would drink over a lot of other things.

Refreshing, more of a summer IPA in my estimation. Just a hint of lemon. Crushable on a hot day.
