Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The dream begins with open top fermentation. At high krausen a foamy, rocky yeast head crests the sides of the fermenter releasing notes of black pepper and spicy clove. Unfiltered and cloudy with yeast, it's slightly tart & downright refreshing.

This is on tap at the Washington House, which is next door to where I work now (yay!) anyways, this one is a hazy cloudy golden colour with a nice head of off-white foam that sticks around for a while, and is quite nice. The aromas are indeed quite wheaty, with a nice fruity spicy hoppiness in the mix as well. Taste is a bit wheaty, with some nice hopping and a real bready maltiness. The wheaty flavor becomes more pronounced as the brew warms, and the estery yeast induced flavors come out a bit more as well. This one is really light on clove and spice though, at least this pint is, but the fruitiness really shines towards the end of the glass. As such it is reminiscent of some other summer American wheats, most notably I find it very similar to Sierra Nevadas take on the style. Solid on all accounts though, a very good after-work/summer-time quencher...

I usually save the wheat beers for Spring and Summer, but I was given this from a co-worker to try. Cool label, and upon close inspection, you can see the word Troegs in the tree branches.

Poured a cloudy straw color. Being an unfiltered wheat, I like to leave a little beer in the bottle, swirl gently, and pour the leftover yeasty offerings that are stuck to the bottom of the bottle.

The smell is somewhat yeasty, with some banana, citrus, and spice. Taste of clove, banana, citrus, nice carbonation. Light and refreshing with a dry finish. Good session beer, and a good representation for the style.
