Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The dream begins with open top fermentation. At high krausen a foamy, rocky yeast head crests the sides of the fermenter releasing notes of black pepper and spicy clove. Unfiltered and cloudy with yeast, it's slightly tart & downright refreshing.

I purchased this beer as part of a six pack at Malones Bar and Grill in Harrisburg, PA.

A-Golden Brown in color and clear

S- a wheaty hoppy smell

T- wheaty yet barley like

D-very drinkable and could easily put down a six pack in an evening.

O- i though this beer was one of Troegs finest beers. I live near the brewery and look forward to the tour in March!

Bottle into SA glass.

A- Straw, hazy, with a light head that goes quickly.

S- Cloves and banana.

T- Spicy cloves with a bubblegum finish.

M- Light.

D- One of the better wheat beers I have had recently. One does not usually run to a wheat beer this time of year, but I got this beer in a variety case and was glad to have tried it.

Appearance: Hazy deep yellow with a small amount of white foam which fades quickly.

Aroma: spicy bananas and vanilla

Taste: Smooth, citrusy wheat leads into that classic vanilla/banana ester taste, ending with a tart aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Creamy full mouthfeel,, moderate carbonation for a weissbier.

Drinkability: Very high!

This beer has a cloudy golden body with a tall but quickly dissapating head. Theres a strong nose of pepper and coriander supported by a wheaty biscuty malt profile. It starts out tart then moves back and forth through a biscuty almost bready malts and spices. Ending a bit clean on the pallete. Enjoyable.

12-oz bottle poured into a weizen glass.

A = Pours a bright yellow, with hazy translucence but not what I would call cloudy since there's no particulate matter noticeable. Small fine head, with no lacing to speak of. Light carbonation with small bubbles.

S = Refreshing and complex smells of lemon, yeast, rhubarb, ripe fruits, wheat, wet grains, and rainsoaked hay.

T = The same notes picked up in the smell are noticeable in the taste, including light lemon flavors as son as it enters the mouth, moving to the taste of sweet grains at mid-palate and going back to slightly sour in the finish.

M = Light to medium bodied, good carbonation level, medium mouthcoating helps the tartness of the taste really permeate the whole mouth.

D = Very drinkable, not at all overpowering as some wheat ales can be. I like this quite a bit and would recommend.

Poured into a pint glassand received a small but frothy head that took its time going away but left no lacings. Had a light gold outside with good cloudiness inside, decent citrus smell, not too much, and I would put in the orange class, maybe a hint of pineapple but not too sweet like banana or sour like lemon. The taste is a tad hoppy, the yeast hitting the tongue, but mostly it is a medium-bodied brew that goes down smooth with a sour citrusy taste. I could session this, but I am not a huge fan of this.

Pours a cloudy pale straw color with just the slightest lean towards tangerine. A fuzzy three finger white head accompanies.
The smell is very nice. Some sweet banana, citrus fruits, esters, and clove. There is also a light green apple tartness which I find quite pleasant. A very balanced and soothing nose.
The taste is slightly sweet of banana, sugared lemon and clove. That mild green apple tartness shows up as well and mixes with a more tart lemon flavor, and some light white pepper spiciness.
Overall, a damn awesome brew.

Pours a cloudy straw yellow with a minimal white head. Nose is very funky. That spiced and mild banana profile is very much there and is very full. Smells like play-do or clay to me as well. Flavor is pretty full bodied, but seems almost light at the same time. There is not as much of a kick as I was expecting. Are the trademark characteristics there? Yes. Is it wildly interesting and unique? Hmmm. Feel has a fairly full bubble to it and the liquid is good as well. Very drinkable due to it’s smooth nature. Easily a session brew. And definitely worth trying.

A - Appears a semi-cloudy yellow color. Got a little less than an inch of head that was gone pretty quick. Lacing was minimal.

S - The typical yeast / wheat aroma hits you first. It comes across as pretty sharp (which I like). There is also a distinct fruity / citus aroma a that could fall under the orange or lemon classification.

T - Taste is not as sharp as expected (compared to aroma). Fruit is more pronounced in the flavor. It is definitely orange. I picked up another sharp spice in the background but could not pin it down to one spice in particular.

M - This beer was medium bodied. Carbonation was a little low for my taste. Finished nice and dry.

D - This was a good spicy wheat beer. Not the best I had but a solid effort. The low alcohol content really adds to the drinkability.

Generally a clear gold color with a faint cloudiness, a thin white head and a touch of lacing. The aroma is classic wheat with some earthy lemon. The flavor is mild grainy goodness, tiny bubbles throughout this thin bodied, thirst quenching brew. Sort of fizzy, very easy to drink. A nice citrus background. I liked it and would drink anytime. Should appeal to most tastes, not too dry and a good wheat flavor.

Smelll resembles that of a belgian tripel, clove and banana mostly. Straw /pale in color with a cloudy haze to it.
This is - in a nut shell- just a good beer. Easy drinking with a nice taste that is very inviting. A co-worker brought me back a 12pack from PA variety and i'm looking forward to trying the other 3 flavors. This one dosen't disappoint ! Wish Troegs distributed a little farther north- NY and CT.

Tried one of these for the first time out of a bottle and was really impressed... Although $8.99 was kind of pricey for a six-pack, I wouldn't mind paying it again for a good, classic witbier like this one. Would definitely recommend this to anyone a fan of this style... A good American wheat beer dominated by banana, clove, and lemon flavors that stand out as much in smell as in the taste... Certainly try this one if you can find it, because its definitely worth it... I really liked this one...

An American Witbier! That's what this is drinkin like to me. Light, refreshing with some nice spicy notes. Corriander is in here along with some fresh orange zest. Some good wheat notes in flavor and texture pulse throughout the journey of the beer.
Every once in awhile I am reminded of some american pale wheat ales that I haven't been overly fond of but this beer doesn't drop the ball like those others do. Clean and solid all around, I would match this up against Belgian brewed witbiers.

I feel like I do this a lot, but I dont quite agree with the style classification on this one. The aroma is a dead-on hefeweizen and the flavor only has a little more clean wheat malt flavor than a hefe. I thought it was one until I looked this beer up to review it.

Anyways, the taste and aroma revolve around a big creamy citrus element. The flavor is pretty on par with a less-complex hefe, just smooth spice cake frosting and citrus. Also looks pretty and is very drinkable, I'm calling it a hefe. Not a reat one, but a pretty good one.

Poured from 12oz brown bottle into a clear pint glass

A: Hazy golden yellow with medium-thick foamy head that leaves a little lace behind

S: Kind of faint for an American wheat with some grain, banana, lemon, and cloves, but all are weaker than expected

T: Pretty fruity with banana, lemon, and apple flavors, prominent honey taste, with some clove and spice and dash of pepper. The fruitiness is very well-balanced and unique.

M: Light carbonation and medium bodied with dry finish.

D: Very tasty and enjoyable American wheat from Troegs.

A - Good cloudy appearance, with an excellent opaque hue. Looks like a wheat beer should look

S - Faint spice smeels (clove/pepper) and a small amount of banana wafts out. Very muted smellls, not very strong but good.

T - Again, very muted taste. I enjoy the taste of this beer but it is not as flavorful as other offerings of this style. The banana taste in this beer is more of a "bruised" ripe banana than a fresh banana.

M - Fairly thin mouthfeel, not as stiff as some other beers of this style.

D - This is a really drinkable beer. Easily sessionable and not too heavy. I find that it is drinkable all year round, and can transition between seasons well.

a: Looks exactly like an unfiltered wheat beer should. A lovely, cloudy, pale atraw yellow.

s: Not a lot to mention here. Faint cloves maybe, not much spice overall though.

t: A bit of a letdown from Troegs. The flavors I'd expect to find (clove pepper etc.) are here but very muted.

m: Very thin with less carbonation than I'd like.

d: I could drink wheat beers all day, i'd just pick another one

notes: Troegs makes many outstanding brews, so I won't hold this average offering against them.

Paid $14.49 for a mixed 12-pack in McHenry, MD...

The beer is golden, a touch cloudy, with a medium white head and ok lacing effects. The beer is classic weizen, very grainy, like smelling a frozen but fresh baked loaf of wheat bread,... with a touch of citrus... fantastic!

The tastes from the smell are there, low carbonation makes it an easy drink, nice moderate aftertaste, clean and crisp in the end and a solid session beer!

Final Thought: A very nice weizen from a tried-and-true brewery!

A- Yellow/orange, slightly cloudy, a single finger of white, soapy head that settles to a ring in mere moments. Leaves a small amount of spot-lace on the side of the glass.

S- Mmmm. Smells very sweet, with a rose bouquet and touches of pale wheat malt, an almost Belgian blond yeast, honey and a touch of alcohol.

T- Initial pale malt with some white bread, giving way quickly to a largely grapefruit-hop character. A faint spicy phenolic character, almost a white pepper. Surprisingly like a belgian, especially for an American wheat. Tasty.

M- Mouthfeel certainly gets better as it warms. Has a medium-light body with high carbonation, and a clean, slightly astringent finish. The slightest hint of diacetyl lingers in the finish as well.

D- Quite good. This would be both a great summer ale and an excellent session beer. Light, smooth, but satisfying.

Been enjoying a sixtel of this fine wheat from Troegs for the last couple weeks, so about time I reviewed...

Pours a clear yellow (no cloud), with a fluffy white 3-finger head, and nice lacing throughout.

Fresh smell that grabs your attention, with some lemony zest and a hint of clove and banana.

This has a very refreshing/interesting flavor for a wheat, with a lemon-pepper zing, and faint hoppiness at the end.

Mouthfeel seemed surprisingly sharp for a wheat, with a lingering tart finish that helps you remember the uniqueness of this beer.

Overall, a relatively easy-drinking, surprisingingly-original, and sessionable selection.

12 oz bottle poured into Sam Adams glass.

Pours a cloudy straw yellow, with light, fluffy white head.

Peppery aroma strikes first with hints of clove and banana. No malt or hops aroma to speak of.

Pepper dominates in the taste as well, some banana. American hops provide bitterness, being most evident in the finish.

Medium light body with appropriate effervescent carbonation. Slightly drying in the finish.

A very good, easy drinking wheat beer, and local for me to boot.

Another fantastic beer from just across the river, this pours cloudy lemon yellow with a fluffy white head that lasts well and retaing rocky peaks.

Aroma is great; bright wheat, banana, massive clove and spice, and faint peppery dryness. Warm there are notes of citrus that reming one of a Witte.

Flavor is a KO! Perfect wheat notes and tons of mushy banana followed by clove and coriander spice. It dries toward the finish with citrus and white pepper. It really reminds me of a Witte, especially with the strong spice and citrus notes. Either way it's obviously very fresh and equally deliscious.

Body is medium, soft and lofty, and wonderfully wheaty-slick. Infinately drinkable.

Pours a clear, golden yellow, orange combination color, with thick bubbly white head that dies down faster than most wheat beers. Smell is of bubble gum, and heavy on the wheat. Very little clove and spices but they seem to be in there a little bit. Taste is bubble gum with some spice and wheat presence. Mouthfeeling is creamy, incredibly smooth and almost milky like. Great wheat beer!

Pours a cloudy bright straw color with a white head that dies to minimal lacing. Smells of light clove, some wheat malt and a hint of citrus. Taste is as it smells, a little more full with some banana and spicy. Very light in the mouth with some tasty flavors. Good carbonation and the ultimate in drinkability. I could service this beverage all day on a hot day, very refreshing, crisp and light.
