Brewed by:
Tröegs Brewing Company
Pennsylvania, United States

Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.80%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The dream begins with open top fermentation. At high krausen a foamy, rocky yeast head crests the sides of the fermenter releasing notes of black pepper and spicy clove. Unfiltered and cloudy with yeast, it's slightly tart & downright refreshing.

Nice bouquet of pepper and yeast, and clove. Cloudy, unfiltered...aftertaste of rubber or burnt plastic. A pretty good beer, not one to write home about though.

S-wheat, clove and peppery spiciness, estery
T-sweet malt and tons of clove, with some banana esters in the background, more spicy clove on the finish
M-medium-light bodied with average carbonation
O-very solid, clove dominant hefeweizen

Tröegs DreamWeaver Wheat | Tröegs Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a BBC Perfect Pint glass, this beer has a two finger thick off-white head, with lateral lacing, and a hazy amber body.

I smell more banana, clove, and lemongrass with not very much peppercorn or bubblegum-like esters.

Ok now you get the bubblegum flavor with the other traditional hefe elements all being nicely represented here. Very enjoyable indeed.

The mouthfeel here is lighter with fair carbonation. Clean and crisp.

Overall, I'll rate Tröegs DreamWeaver Wheat | Tröegs Brewing Company with a 4.25. I know everyone praises German hefes, and understandably so, but if I'm looking at the closeness/freshness factor here, Hershey PA is maybe five hours from me. So that's something to consider. Either way pick this up.

Hefeweizen. The perfect summer brew. Perfected by Brewers in the Fatherland and imitated by all others. This is a very good imitation which successfully mimics all the important qualities of one of my favorite beer styles. Solid thumbs up.

Poured a cloudy amber with a two finger off-white head. Little lacing. Aroma was of ripe banana and black pepper. Taste is basically banana and pepper. This is lacking the bready malty flavor with cloves that better Hefes have. I found the feel to be rather thin with mild carbonation. This is drinkable but not up to par with the German brands.

Serving: From the bottle at a BBQ
Served: 14 May 2016

Appearance: Had this one straight from the bottle because I was at a cookout. Came in the summer sampler pack, so it had very simple, elegant branding in my opinion, which was a nice change of pace from Tröegs' otherwise loud labels.

Smell: Definitely picked up on the ripe banana esters common to the style, with just a little bit of the characteristic yeasty spice too.

Taste: A solid hefeweizen, but one lacking some of the round, merged flavors common to the best German examples. I found the malt base to be a little thin, not doing much contribution in terms of breadiness and adding a bit more sweetness than I would have liked. The yeast notes are fine. Finished sweeter than anticipated.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with medium-high carbonation. About what I would expect for the style.

Overall: A good American hefeweizen, but one that doesn't match up great to the German examples.

12 fl oz bottle served cool into a pint glass. Another surprise from the wife's cross border trip.

Appearance - Pours a mostly clear rich golden colored brew. A finger or so of head before it recedes. Some lacing left around the glass. Fairly clear but not quite kristalweizen material.

Smell - Hearty grains plenty of wheat with some banana and spices. Slightly bigger nose than expected given that this beer is under 5% ABV.

Taste - Thick and wheaty, a heavy handed dose of malt with plenty of banana and some coriander and orange. Boldly flavorful, more so than many in this genre. Hops are generous, hidden but bustling beneath the surface. Lots of earthiness on the finish.

Mouthfeel - Smooth and creamy, decadent almost. Body is on the heavier end of things, but works well with a stronger than expected taste. Well carbonated.

Overall - A fine wheat beer that while not being able to stand with the German giants, Troegs DreamWeaver wheat is nonetheless a highly accessible and plenty flavorful ale than fans of the style can appreciate.

On tap at a bar (draft).
L: Standard golden color, not super cloudy but mildly turbid. Light head, little lacing
S: Tons of banana. Likewise sweet, doughy bread smell
T: Also tons of banana and sweet wheat
F: Lighter than most imported hefes I've had, silky body, medium carbonation.
O: Solid hefe, best yeast profile I've personally experienced from a domestic brewer's interpretation of the style.

A hazy golden pour with a thin brilliantly white crown. Hefeweizens are all about letting the yeast lead the parade and Tröegs has done an admirable job. Yeast phenolics dominate the nose, with that familiar spicy clove characteristic lead the charge while cracked pepper and a hint of citrus dance in the background. The flavor profile is much the same, combining a good level of carbonation and lighter mouthfeel for a solid example of an American Hefe.

Gold in color with a light haziness and a fingernail of eggshell white. The aroma is intensely that of banana esters, pale wheat, and a hint of bubble gum. I taste banana esters and pale wheat. The mouth is light and smooth.

Looked and smelled nice. It had a good golden color and a frothy head that lasted a while. The smell was very clove-y, wheaty, and there was a citrusy hop smell to it also. When I first took a sip, it tasted like someone had just dumped the contents of my spice cabinet into my beer. It actually made me feel a little sick about 3/4 through and was tough to finish, especially because of how carbonated it was. There's a banana type aftertaste which was a welcome reprise from all the clove. I personally thought it needed more bright, citrusy flavors to contrast all those murky spices. Probably would not drink again.

12oz, bottled on 070615. Thanks to my friend, Derek, for picking this up in Ohio for me.
A - clouded yellow body with a very thin, foamy white head
S - fairly typical hefe aroma with wheat, lemon, clove, banana, bubblegum, faint pepper, earthy hops
T - nice balance of flavor with all the above present
M - effervescent lighter body prickles the tongue as it dances across the palate
O- pretty good representation of the style. Glad to try it. It seems I'm always excited to try beers not in my market.

Aroma is wheaty and citrusy, with a huge clove punch. Notes of sour lemon and orange pith emerge.

Flavor is wheat dominant, becoming biscuity malt dominant in the finish. Muddled citrus and clove add character early, but aren't as pronounced as in aroma. Banana surfaces late. Seems a little watery.

12 ounce bottle served in a pint glass.

Pours a clear, golden color with a nice two finger head. Nice lacing throughout.

Smells of wheat, biscuit, cloves, perhaps some lemongrass as well.

Pretty much taste the same as it's aroma. Very easy to drink. Light and crisp!

Very nice beer... one of the better ones I've had in this category. Worth a 6 pack for easy, summertime drinking.

Nice and light wheat beer. Pours a pale yellow, almost like a pineapple juice look. You can taste clove, lemon, pineapple and overall banana. Would consider putting it on draft.

Pours a clouded yellow with a fizzy white head that leaves rings on lacing behind.

Smells spicy, I get notes of nutmeg, clove, toasted grain, honey.

I was very surprised by the flavor, the spices come through in the beginning, but don't overwhelm, the malt takes the middle, and there's a very minor bitter that takes the finish.

Light bodied, crisp, leaves clean.

A very good beer, but don't think I would want to session it.

Dream Weaver, I believe I can make it through this piii---innntt!
That song keeps ringing in my head as I pour this nice Troegs brew from a growler in a pint glass. Pours a hazy yellow with tinges of orange and a fantastic head of white foam that settles to a thick ring and thick layer with excellent lacing. Smell of heavy banana bread, sweet rich caramels, and subtle clove. Flavors follow the nose with a banana and moderately yeasty bread flavor that is on all sides that mingles with a mild caramel note in the middle. Flavors progress to a light lemon and herbal note on the back with a light dose of clove. Very solid and substantial. Lightly tart finish with prickly carbonated mouth feel.

Pours a cloudy orange tone, medium carbonation. Has a banana sweet aroma, feels thin in your mouth. Finishes with a peppery pop, leaves a clove aftertaste. Not bad but not a favorite from Troegs.

Poured from the tap at the Blue & Grey Pub in Gettysburg, PA into a pint glass. This beer is a very nice hefeweizen. The aroma is full of fruit, pepper and cloves. The flavor is wheat, cloves and fruit and is very nice. The beer is a slightly murky golden color with a smooth texture. a very good beer, highly recommended.

On tap at Blue & Grey Bar & Grill in Gettysburg, PA.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, earth, spice, banana, caramel, and yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with earth, caramel, banana, spice, and yeast flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice and yeast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but the mix of aromas is slightly better to me.

Serving type: on tap.

Appearance: I will regrettably note that I neglected to record my impressions of the appearance.

Aroma: Banana, cinnamon, clove, and bubblegum (as expected)

Flavor: Banana, clove, cinnamon, bubblegum burst on the palate at once. However, the sensory overload is ephemeral as the delightful elements are washed away by a dry, watery finish. The slick mouthfeel lacks the depth that I anticipated. As others have noted, this is highly carbonated. Some clove and cinnamon remain on the palate as a faint reminder of what could have been.

All of the elements of a good hefe are here. However, the watery mouthfeel really holds this one back. Lacks the decadent creaminess of a top notch hefe. Not a bad offering by any stretch but it lacks the attentiveness characteristic of a fantastic brewery like Troegs.

Taste - Lemon, wheat, banana, spices and a whole lot of funk. Not the best from Troegs that's for sure. Nowhere near the best wheat beer either. There are better options out there.

Poured into a hefe glass.

Look: After rousing the yeast, the beer had a pleasant yellow, hazy demeanor. Looked more to the yellow side like Weihenstephaner rather than gold like Paulaner or Franziskaner. I got a ton of bubbles, but I think it was because the bottom of my glass is messed up.

Smell: There was something... off with the nose on the one. Couldn't put my finger on it, but it was a cloying sweet smell that didn't really do it for me. Banana, cloves were the main pulls from the smell.

Taste: Taste was underwhelming. It was a pretty simple taste but the ingredients didn't really come together perfectly for my tastes. Had the taste of something a little thrown together to me.

Mouthfeel: A bit too thin for a hefe in my opinion; also the carbonation was NOT due to the glass... the beer is definitely overcarbonated.

All in all, I've had many better hefes than this. Had a few worse ones, but far more better ones and this is my favorite style. This just didn't do anything exceptionally.

Appearance: Pours a hazy honey color with a modest bubble show that produces a two inch cap; shards of lacing linger

Smell: Graham cracker and clove, with slight hint of banana

Taste: Graham cracker and banana, up front, with the clove tones building to prominence; spicy and peppery phenols, after the swallow, yield a distinctive finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; slightly creamy

Overall: A decent hefe; lacks the banana and the mouthfeel to be in the top tier
