Notes: Flying Mouflan unlocks bold notes of hops dipped in candi sugar and rolled in cocoa nibs. We mature our barleywine ale in oak barrels for over 6 months to soak in tangy raisin and infuse vanilla and chocolate decadence.

Look: It pours amber with ruby highlights and a tan head. The overall clarity of the beer is good.

Smell: It has aromas of caramel and bread with moderate fruity esters. The initial aroma is very malty with the fruity esters coming in a second wave.

Taste: It has a high concentration of caramel flavors with bread, moderate fruity esters and some oak. The floral hops comes in moderately in the taste after the initial malt and esters flavors.

Feel: It has a chewy, full bodied feel with high floral hop bitterness and plenty of alcohol warmth.

Overall this is a caramel drive high hopped alcohol strength barleywine with a classic long lasting finish.

Look - looks almost black, but when held up to the light, it reveals a deep reddish brown color (emphasis on red). It also has a decent khaki head that dissipates quickly.

Smell - vanilla, toffee, raisins, chocolate, booze.

Taste - so much going on here. Similar to the aroma where vanilla, toffee, and a Raisinette flavor blend perfectly. It ends with strong boozy notes, but it's very pleasant.

Feel - good carbonation, a little thin due to the aging process, but it still maintains some chewiness.

Overall, this is a truly unique beer that's difficult to explain in a few sentences. I haven't had the regular version for a few years so I can't accurately compare the two, but this aged version really stands out as something special.

L - Three full fingers worth of airy medium khaki colored froth with a bit of a rocky top and comprised of loads of big chunky bubbles... Excellent retention... Once receded there is a splotchy lacing and thick collar... A light to moderate bit of slightly sluggish carbonation mostly seen towards the top of the glass... The color is a deep ruby red with a slight haziness the permeates throughout...

S - Rich dark fruits at the outset... Plums... Cherries... Mixed berries... Figs... Gooey raisins... This sits atop a layer of brown sugar... Some light tobacco notes... Not picking up much in terms of the oak barrels... Very pleasant and satisfying...

T - The sweetness alluded to by the aroma is dialed down several notches... The dark fruit sweetness is present, but it competes with the brown sugar and tobacco for prominence... The oak barrel aging is more present in terms of the palate... It's subtle but adds a nice layer of depth and complexity... The hops rise on the deep finish and pack a bit of a piney punch...

F - Medium to full bodied... Sleek and lush to start... Finishes with a slight touch of dryness... Lightly carbonated throughout...

O - A nice Barrel Aged American Barley Wine... However, I'm fairly certain I would opt for "regular old" Flying Mouflan (which has been MIA for the past few years)... Still highly enjoyable and worthy of seeking out for BAs fond of the style...

Poured into a 16 oz snifter tulip glass not sure when it was bottled at near room temperature. Pours an attractive mahogany with a two finger tan head that leaves behind wisps of lace and takes its time settling into a thin layer of bubbles.

Smell is oaky, woody, dark fruit, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, caramel, biscuit, and a little alcohol.

Taste follows nicely oak, wood, dark fruit, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, chocolate, caramel, and warming alcohol tickles the back of the throat.

Mouthfeel is almost large, moderate carbonation, creamy, a little dry, and drinkability is insane for 12.5% ABV.

Overall this is one of the best Barleywines or beers I have ever had, thanks @jzeilinger for this beautiful gem of a beer.

Caged bottle poured into a Teku glass at the troegs brewery

Dark Brown liquid capped by a taupe cap that quickly settles to a layer of bubbles

Aroma of cocoa , dark fruits , raisins

Taste of cocoa, raisins , deep dark chocolate , vanilla and oak of course

Low sudsing , feel the alcohol , almost astringent puckering , settles as it warms to room temperature . I suggest letting this beer warm as the taste expands at room temperature

Good beer
