Our Tart & Fruit Series is the perfect place to showcase boysenberries, a strange and wonderful hybrid of blackberries and raspberries. The jammy juiciness of 12 pounds per barrel of real boysenberries is balanced with a bit of pucker thanks to a first-stage fermentation with lactobacillus. Coriander gives off hints of wildflowers, and a pinch of salt amplifies the refreshing sweet-tart berry goodness.

A: It is a beautiful looking purplish hue. Neat thin head compacted slowly into edge laced annular disk.
S: Has a nose of funkiness and a hint of seweriness. Typical to style. Has a slight light berry note on nose.
T: Reminds me of a Gose a little bit, not as salty. If you swish it around a bit on palate, the saltiness rises and the tang reminds of a homebrew twang almost.
M: Thin at first, slightly creamy on swish. Not heavy at all in any way, it is spritely.
O: Refreshing and very pleasant to say the least, I could see having a few of these while doing outdoor activities.

12 ounce can poured into a tulip glass. Freshest by 6/16/2021, so two weeks out of date...not that bad.
L---Clear dark orange/maroon color. Two finger head faded quickly to a cap and left minimal lacing.
S---You can actually get that boysenberries are a hybrid of blackberries and raspberries, just like they say on the can.
T---Same as the nose.
F---Medium/light body. Good carbonation.
O---A nice one. Perhaps a one trick pony, but who cares if they're good at it.

Poured chilled from the can purchased at the brewery in a tumbler
The color is deep red with good clarity and quick dropping white head with fine bead
The smell has a mostly bready aroma with light funk and faint berry odor
the feel is light with dry texture and medium high carbonation with gently sour finish
The tartness is lower than the raspberry offering with less fruit present in the taste, subtle boysenberry that has a mild funk from yeast present mid palate with mineral dry quality almost like seltzer as it finishes there is not much malt in this or fruit it is not very tart either
Overall I am not comparing to the lime raspberry tart I just feel this is a lackluster wild as it does not deliver in the fruit flavor and yeast overtakes with a much too dry presentation making it too spritzy or seltzer-like mineral for my taste

Who the hell makes a sour with boysenberries? Tröegs, apparently. This is sure to be an interesting one, definitely not something you see every day. I've had a few in the fruited "Tart Ale" line, and they're nothing spectacular but usually light and refreshing. Let's see what this one is all about
Pours a cloudy maroon/orange with 2 fingers of white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
The fruit in the nose is nicely balanced in jammy sweetness and sharp tartness. I'm picking up on aromas of jammy raspberry, orange juice, tart boysenberry, earthy coriander, creamy malt, and a touch of salt
Oof, this does not taste like it smells, and not in a good and unique way either. On the front end of the sip it's still nicely tart, and I'm tasting puckering boysenberry, sweet orange, lemon rind, and bready malt. But the swallow sweetens up wayyyy too much for my liking, bringing forth notes of creamy peach, overly sweet malt, and coriander
A light medium pairs with light tingling carbonation, resulting in a beer that's tart and quick up front but lingers on the finish, really preventing it from feeling refreshing throughout. Finishes off dry with an odd sweetness as I mentioned
This one was kinda all over the place. It's not a bad beer by any means, but it's just not something I want much of. It was worth a shot to try something brewed with boysenberry

Pours a translucent cherry soda color with like head.Smell is some funk and mild berry. Taste is juicy, jammy, boysenberry. The Kveik yeast adds a melon/ jolly rancher taste. Also some raspberry going on. Feels crisp and refreshing. Overall a delicious wild ale.

It seemed like a good idea to empty the entire contents of a 12 oz. can and about half of another into a clear Imperial pint glass. A proper serving, indeed. August carbonation during the pours has subsided, leaving no head nor glass lacing. Its color is a reddish purple, lighter than grape juice. The aroma is vaguely tart. The taste is very light and mild, bringing little fruit and tartness to the tongue. The best that can be said is that this isn't syrupy, but those that like the taste of Boysenberry and those that like a tart ale with a little pucker power will be disappointed. Unfortunately, most of its fizz left upon the initial pour, rendering this toward the flat side. That might be the biggest negative. Maybe on a very hot summer day this will make more sense.

12/1/19...pours light to medium pink with a haze and sediment. Strong fruity nose, and clearly the signature fruity pops out. Sharp tart to start. Balanced by the salt. Fruity, sour, and balanced saltiness. Simple, but tasty.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Nearly clear burgundy/maroon pour with 2 fingers of pink-tinged head. Falls fast.. modest lacing.
S: Tart and jammy. Raspberry/blackberry and a bit of citrus.
T.F: Super light bodied bordering on watery. Modestly tart up front... some fruit/jam. Boysenberry and lemon citrus. Not much else... fizzy carbonation. A bit more jam at the finish.
O: Easy drinking and light... a reasonable low ABV summer swig but probably not one I'd reach for unless I just hopped off the lawn mower.

A - Light strawberry pink/red colored pour with dense white lacing and light carbonation.
S - Light aroma that's tart, a little salty, a little juicy, and boysenberry aroma.
T - Boysenberry and salt from start to finish with some tartness. Fruit and a little salty with home lingering cereal grain and tartness on the back end.
M - Medium body with soft carbonation, wet finish.
O - Refreshing but not my gig.
