Monks had fasting figured out. No food? No problem. Just drink a Double Bock. Thick and chewy with intense notes of caramel, chocolate and dried stone fruit, ‘Nator (as we call him) serves as a tribute to this liquid bread style.

No observable bottling date, but it does say Freshest by 5/14/18.
Look: Deep plum/brown in color with hints of red. About 2 fingers worth of head, with minimal retention. Very generous amounts of residual glass lacing. I am a fan of both the color and presentation of this beer.
Smell: Huge notes of plum, figs, and dates. Also some hints of apricot and peach in there. There is a sweetness to the smell, reminding me of caramel and butterscotch. Malts prevalent on the nose as well.
Taste: Maybe since I am new to the style, I am over impressed, but I am diggin' this. Huge flavors of dark fruit, compiled with a rich caramely sweetness. The front end is mostly sweet, and the finish is somewhat bitter. The aftertaste is really sweet, with a molasses-like lingering flavor. Malt flavor is prevalent throughout the taste as well.
Feel: Medium in body and weight, with moderate carbonation. Slick property to the beer, but not chewy. Smooth yet nice balance of bitterness.
Overall: I am impressed. I enjoy the richness this beer has to offer. It is sweet, slightly bitter, and very tasty. Can't detect the 8.2 abv at all. I am grateful to have tried, and want to try more in this style. Cheers!

Troegenator brewed by Tröegs Brewing Company, with an ABV 8.20% This Doppelbock pours out nice brownish color with a small white head. This brew has the look of iced tea, not saying that is a bad thing. There is also a nice amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell of Troegenator is roasted grains and malts. There is also a nice amount of sweetness and mild hop bitterness to this brew. Between the look and smell this is one inviting brew. Now for the taste, it is Bold and Rich with flavors. You first pick up on sweet Roasted grains and malts. Then mirror hop bitterness at the end. There is a lot going on in Troegenator. This brew has a super nice balance to it, there is nothing overpowering about this brew. I can't get over how smooth this brew goes down, it is really hard to pick up on the 8.20% ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. The mouth feel of Troegenator is Bold, Rich, Roasted, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give Troegenator a 4.5 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Tröegs Brewing Company, did a super nice job with this brew.

Undated bottle (part of a variety pack) into pint glass. Pours a clear reddish-brown with a nice off-white head. Initial impression is emphatically molasses, accompanied by smoked malts, oak, caramel, dark fruits, and a touch of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium, as is carbonation. Finish is slightly sweet. OK but not something I'd seek out.

Got this gifted to me while camping, I will need to return the favor on the next camping trip...

Right out of the bottle it pours a nice, dark ruby-tinged, brownish color that is crystal clear. The head to it is decent but with no staying power and no lacing to mention. The smell is bready, yeasty, and masks all of the 8.2% ABV, which as far as the taste is concerned is definitely there, but very light - not that stark or hot taste of booze in the mouth, well mixed in my opinion. Mouthfeel is light-bodied, lightly carbonated, and makes for dangerously easy drinking that you will fill later. Overall, this is an exceptional beer in my opinion. I'll be keeping an eye out for this brewer in during my trip to PA later this summer.

So this is the reknowned Troegenator. I have been meaning to try this for a while. Pours a dark bronze, almost light cola color with a healthy tan head. Nose is yeast and chocolate malt and raisins and molasses; kind of interesting.

Crisp but delicate in texture, with a big melange of flavors through the aftertaste: mocha, molasses, grapeskin, smoke, peat, and caramel. This is roasty and tasty and complex and very much on style. Good show.

Thanks to bl00 for this one from NBS BIF #007. 12oz bottle poured into 10oz fluted tulip. Poured a clean, clear reddish brown color, with just a thin cap of off-white head that no retention or lacing.

The aroma was full of nice brainy malts, with a touch of caramel sweetness.

Very similar on the tongue, with the caramel a bit more notable, and a wee bit of an alcohol bite on the finish.

The body was very nice, smooth, even, a little over medium, and had a semi-sweet finish.

Drinkability was excellent, a very easy drinking version of the style. Overall, very nice. Most Dopple's tend to be too sweet and too hot, this one handles those issue quite well. A must-try.

Deep ruby reddish gold color with small cap.

Aroma of dark toffee and ripe stone fruits with an airy hop brightness.

Taste is very full but with a charming balance that's almost delicate. Like the resounding percussion of a concert grand piano that goes on to develop elegant subtleties. The heavier elements of dark malt are there yet the interplay of dark fruits (ripe black plumbs and figs) keep the strength moving forward with a fluid grace. Hops remain ever present like high notes that keeps the whole in balance.

Full flavor with balancing carbonation.

This is a powerful beer with presence, one I'd serve first to a new acquaintance who expressed a like for beer.

The color is very red for a doppel bock. I found this beer to be far too syrupy and flat for my liking. The smell and taste of molasses was highly overpowering and drowned out any other potential flavors such as coffee that I've seen in other reviews. The head dissipated in seconds and it's lack of carbonation made it look as though it had sat out overnight. As a fan of stouts, porters and trappist ales and other German doppel bocks I found this very disappointing. Congratulations Troegs you've made the only doppel block i didn't like.

12oz bottle into Libbey Tulip
BB 5/14/18
L- dark red-ish/brown with no head
S- diving into a vat of caramel, candied apples, molasses
T- similar to nose, but the taste has more depth
F- thick and chewy, above average carbonation, nice tingle to it
Overall this is full flavored and smooth drinking, with just a slight alcohol burn, amazing
