Poured from a 12oz bottle intonanduvel glass

A: pours a nice deep tawny ruby with 1/4 of a finger of caramely looking head... A few stray spots of lacing...

S: sticky sweetness, caramel with a hint of brown sugar... Apples, sticky bread... Touch of alcohol, smells like a desert... The more the brew warms the stickier the aroma gets.

T: sweet malts and some grainy light breadyness. Apple, buttery vanilla/caramel, toffe, hint of cherry and plum, sugars... There is a touch of hold which holds it together... Reminds me of mad elf, minus all the Spicy Belgian yeast and some if the cherry flavor. Sweet but not overly so, nice balance.

M: heavy with a slight viscousness to it, medium carbonation gives it a bit of creamyness as well.

O: this is pretty tasty... It reminds me of mad elf, a very nice dopplebock,
I'd reccomend this to anyone who's a fan of the style.

Got this for a friend for Xmas, then decided to try it myself after enjoying a Mad Elf on two separate occasions (both at bars - once on tap, once in a bottle). Apparently Mad Elf basically flies off the shelves in the Greater Philly area.

A: Pours decently clearbut dark...reddish/copper, 1 finger head which dissipates quickly

S: Fruity, but not overwhelming like Magic Hat #9...plum/cherry/ possibly a mild strawberry with mild booze smell

T: Moderate, honey/roasted malt taste, fruits come in plum, cherry perhaps but not overwhelming the base. Malty for sure, very little hops come out here. Very very reminiscent of Mad Elf to me, albeit a much less "concentrated" version

M: Smooth, nice fullness, taste lingers pleasantly

O: Would definitely buy again, a very nice bock

Pours a deep brown to amber color. Decent head at pour but disappates to just around the rim quickly. No lacing. Smell is darker malts with maybe a hint of smokey. Taste is somewhat strong up front - again malt flavors. But then moves to a sweeter - caramel - yet still somewhat smokey on the finish. Nice body and smaller carbonation.

Served in a standard pint glass at a hotel bar waiting for my brothers bachelor party to start.

Appearance: the beer pours a clear mahogany color with a half finger of light tan head that fades to a ring around the glass.

Smell: sweet and malty with some dark fruit and cherries. I'm getting some brown sugar and molasses notes.

Taste: lots of bready malt with some caramel malt, cherries, and dark fruit notes. Sweetness dominates, but there is enough bitterness to balance things out. Just a bit nutty. The finish is bready and slightly malty.

Mouthfeel: the body is on the syrupy side with tingly carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: a nice bock to warm you on a cold day. I'd have more.
