Bomber bottle with nearly two years of age on it and poured into my Deschutes teku...
A - Dark red/brown pour with a finger and a half head. Sticky lace left all over the glass throughout consumption. Perfect look
S - Raisins, dark fruits and toffee really stand out for me. There's a good medley here that balances quite well
T - More dark fruits along with dates and molasses. The toffee stands out the most for me. Amazingly complex. Outstanding!
M - Low carbonation, thin to medium feel and silky f'n smooth
O - The two years of age have done this amazingly well. This is absolutely insanely drinkable. The 9+% ABV is hardly noticeable as I am cruising through this bomber with ease. This is one of the best barleywines on the market. Do yourself a favor and set this one aside for awhile and reap the benefits!

1,000th rating!
Bottle purchased and drank at Chocolate and Vines in Rochester, NY. Not sure the year, but due to the taste, it appears to have been cellared very well.
Pours a dark amber/brown, with a one inch head, and no lacing.
Smells include caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, leather, and tobacco.
The taste is similar and just wonderful. The hops have completed faded away and left some sweet and decadent flavors. Only slightly boozy, with rich malt flavors. I taste chocolate, some smoke, brown sugar, candied fruits, toffee, leather, tobacco. Very complex.
The alcohol at this age (wish I knew just how old) is barely noticeable. Sweet sticky mouthfeel, no carbonation. Very drinkable, was able to polish off a bomber with no problem.
This is one of the best barleywines I've ever had, it's just about perfect.

A: Dark reddish brown with nice lacing
S: First thing I get is dark and dried fruits, molasses, and just a touch of hops.
T: Very sweet off the bat which gives way to some decent hop flavor and ends dry with some lingering bitterness.
M: Decent mouth feel for the style. For me a barley wine should be thick, almost chewy and very complex. This definitely lingers on the tongue nicely and excites the taste buds.
O: Another good brew from Troegs. For me it lacks just a touch of complexity but makes up for that in drinkability, dangerously so. This goes down easy so be careful at over 9%.

Bottle into snifter
Appearance- reddish brown, hazy, tan head
Aroma- Toffee, figs, molasses, deep malts, raisins, some booze
flavor- Molasses, toffee, dates and figs, slightly toasty malts, sweet up front, but balances out and ends up somewhat bitter at the finish, warming alcohol
Mouthfeel- Medium/heavy, medium carbonation
Overall- Really like this beer. this is from the 2012 batch, and has aged nicely. Really hoppy when fresh but ages so well. Worth a try for sure.

Poured into an over sized wine glass a rich burnt orange infused bronze with a sticky 1/2 finger off white head, brillinat definition and color.Chocolate and fruity hops with alcohol notes in the nose.Like the bottle says hops dipped in chocolate play a big role on the palate, brown sugar and sweet alcohol round out the palate.A great American style Barleywine with it's big hops and big alcohol, fantastic stuff.

This is one of the best barleywine so have tried, barrel aged or not. Pours a deep, deep ruby that almost looks brown or black. The smell and taste are a very rich combination caramel, toasty bread, and some fruitiness. A little pine and hop aroma and bitterness. One of the finest, most balanced, and well rounded barleywines that I have tasted.

A - Dark brown, viscous, looking beer. Nice size head that takes a bit to settle. The head fades to a coating on top as you drink. Low carbonation, but kind of hard to tell since you can't really see much.
S - Caramel, raisins, bread...almost like a sticky bun with no cinnamon but with some rosemary on top because of the pine hops.
T - Tons of caramel malt, with some lightly toasted malts in addition. This balances out what I imagine are a lot of IBUs but you don't feel like it is too bitter with so much malt and sweetness. Finishes with some dark fruit flavors and a touch of alcohol.
M - Thick, creamy, and smooth on the tongue. Then finishes with some warmth and lingering caramel coating.
D - So much flavor this is a sipper, very enjoyable, but the 22 oz. bottle is almost too much for a single serving. This is meant to be savored and shared.

Bottles 4/5/10
A - Pours a clear deep copper with a finger or so of off-white head. Head doesn't have great retention, but leaves some nce lacing.
S - Big chocolate, caramel and toffee aromas, but also a decent amount of citrus and a bit of pine. Nice.
T - Caramel, brown sugar and toffee, along with citrus and pine hops. Chocolate notes come in more near the finish. Very smooth tasting and really enjoyable.
M - Medium mouthfeel, very low carbonation. Has a bit of sticky sweetness initially, but finishes semi-dry with some nice bitterness.
O - Very nice barleywine, and a nice one from Troegs. Good flavor profile. I would be interested in trying this fresh for comparison, but even after 20 months has a good hop character.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1 pint 6oz bottle into a tulip glass. The abv is listed at 9.3% on the label. There is no born on date or freshness date.
Appearance: It has a dark reddish brown body with a thick two finger light tan head on top. Head retention is very good and it makes thick lace rings on the glass as I take each sip.
Smell: The aroma has a full character with strong base maltiness with candy sweet notes, brown sugar and caramel notes. Hops are a little more laid back and offer a light balance of leafy/floral and lighter citrus/pine.
Taste/Palate: Malt sweetness comes through overall in a big full body with a decent hop punch backing it all up. I get notes of roasted grain, candy, sugar and white bread crust mixed with mild spice like pine and deep earthy/leafy hop bitterness. A smooth texture with mellow carbonation rounds out the feel.
Notes: A solid and very enjoyable American Barleywine from a solid brewery.

Bottle courtesy of @Casey3236. Pours a mostly opaque deep nutty brown, with hints of rich woody red. Creamy tan head that held pretty well before fading into a medium collar and a few wisps. Sticky legs and good lacing. Aroma is molasses, deep earthy malt, woody, some leathery damp soil. Taste is dark caramel, nutti-chocolate with some almond like toastiness, leather and earth. Rich mouthfeel, full bodied and low to medium carbonation. I think I aged this one a bit too long, or maybe not long enough. That dirt-like flavor is a little off putting.

Bomber thanks to mntlover. Poured into a snifter a slightly hazed dark amber body with a small beige head that quickly falls to a cap with some spotty lacing.
Robust aroma of pine and earthy hops and honey drenched nougats of caramel.
Body is on the full side of medium with a creamy moderate carbonation.
Taste has pine, earthy, and spicy hops up front, with a solid malt base. Raisins and hints of other dark fruits, brown sugar, and toasted caramel are all apparent. A bit of alcohol heat lets you know you're sipping a barleywine.
Been wanting to try this one for a long time and it didn't disappoint. Excellent American style barleywine with plenty of aggressive hops, yet with a solid malty backbone underneath.

22 oz bomber bottle
Pours dark plummy amber, murky under a dak tan head that leaves splotches of lace. Nose is of ripe fruit, musty hop oils and then some sweet maple. Strong and tasty brew. Bold strokes of resiny hops and repectable layers of maple malts. Some glimmers of boozy alcohol poke their heads up, but the smoothness and continuing melange of hops/malts follow through to make the finish line. Nice offering thats well worth a try.
