Brewed by:
Tröegs Brewing Company
Pennsylvania, United States

Style: Oatmeal Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
JavaHead is like a day at Tröegs; it’s hard to tell where the coffee ends and the beer begins. This creamy oatmeal stout is infused with locally roasted, cold steeped coffee through our HopBack vessel, releasing subtle hints of cocoa, roasted nuts and dark mocha.

a: pours dark black, with some dark purple/ruby red light at the bottom of the glass. large 3 finger tan head - pretty smooth

s: dark sweet roasted malts, somethign grassy/grainy, dark baking chocolate, smooth coffee, something almost oaky and creamy

t: milk chocolate and coffee beans up front, dark sweet fruit, cream, toasted malts, slight sweet berry flavor. all the flavors in this are incredibly smooth. only a hint of bitterness from the coffee beans

m: fuller side of medium. it had a large head, but doesn't feel overly carbonated

o: kind of surprised - after trying this i think it should be rated higher than it is. it IS true that the coffee flavors could be a bit more pronounced, but its a real nice combination of roasty and sweet. drinks smooth and warms you nicely. thumbs up

Bottle with date 2-21-13 so not exactly fresh. Pour to stemless wine glass. Smallish tan head settles with nice ring of tight bubbles, dark brown body with some light seeping thru the sides- nice looking stout.
S- nice roasted coffee , with impressive - vanilla- toffee like notes as well. The age on this blunted the hoppy aroma , IMO but it smells delicious anyway.
T- taste follows the coffee well, just bursting with it and chocolate and vanilla following on top. Not at all bitter and the hops are really pushed to the background. Maybe the age again. Slight warming on the finish but the abv is not real evident- this is real easy drinking.
M- oily- medium body, creamy and really good. This is one of my favorite stouts so far, with limited experience.
Overall I heartily recommend. I'm going to try a fresher bottle to see if the hops are noticeable. Definitely a good one from Troegs
