Had this casked at Local 44 in West Philly

A-the beer looked night poured from the cask, a nice coppery amber, with a thin pale white foam

S- The beer smelled great, a lot of sweet citrus and a little piney resin

T- The beer was almost completely flat and as such, the lack of carbonation removed some of the acidity that is normally there to balance the malt and the hops. Without the carbonation, the malt was a little over sweet and the hops tasted a little soapy. Overall, the beer tasted stale, although the hop flavor made it bearable.

M- Medium-bodied, but a little slick and sticky

D- I would probably not have this beer again on cask, it was disappointing. I could barely finish my beer. I love this beer out of the bottle, but perhaps because I had it in the bottle, I was expecting something else.

Out of a bottle overlooking Cape Cod Bay in Fleetwell. This was the perfect beer for a perfect day. Wanted more and hope to try others from this brewery.

Appearance – This ale is simply gorgeous! The bright, slightly cloudy orange body is faintly tinted with hints of brown. The head came up two full inches on an even pour and sat there for what seemed like an eternity. It slowly made its way down the glass like a floating, fluffy cloud of fine grey-goose down, leaving intricate lacework all along the insides of my Great Lakes Brewing glass.

Smell – Oh, so good. This is reminiscent of their Pale Ale, which I adore. The fuggley nose (or whatever you call East Coast hops) is awesome and set up with a terrific, biscuity malt backbone. There’s some light fruity smells to this one as well.

Taste – The light fruits come our more at the taste, otherwise the tongue fits the nose (so to speak). The flavors are amazingly harmonious.

Mouthfeel – Light and delicate and very refreshing.

Drinkability – I promised myself that I would savor every bit of this, but of course I didn’t and gulped it down. Maybe next time.

Comments – Thanks to ericaweizen for sending this one my way. Darn her – now I’m addicted!!

Clear light auburn with a thick, creamy, beige head. Steady small carbonation. Bristlecone pine and caramel dominate the spicy and leafy aroma. Very hoppy. Front is hoppy as can be but this mellows away to reveal a nice, moderately hopped middle and finish with wonderful caramel flavors. Still, hops dominate and offer a multitude of hop flavors including luscious juicy fruits, spicy mountain brush, pine, bright floral and grass notes. Body is light to medium. Drinkability is very high.

A: A light copper with good clarity and a persistant light tan head. The head is thin and leaves a bit of lacing the glass.

S: A moderately-strong hops aroma of oranges, lemon zest and a bit of pine. A moderately-light caramel malt sweetness. Light fruity esters.

T: A moderately-strong hops bitterness and moderate citrus hops flavor. The malt is mostly caramel, but not that sweet, with some dry graininess. The balance is firmly bitter. the finish is dry with a lingering hop bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with a moderately-strong carbonation.

O: An aggressively hopped American Amber with citrus hops aromas and flavors. A great beer.

'Note its characteristics.' Well, sorry if I lack the palate and refinement to comment in the prescribed fashion on a good beer here, ('...white grape, black tea, lychee and bubblegum. bitter rye and tropical fruit flavors. the palate is smooth and sticky with a jelly texture...') but I leave the parsing of taste to the more 'refined' beer snobs. Myself, I like to drink beer, and good beer at that.

Of which, this is one. A real desert island beer, satisfying, not cloying after a few, but holding its own. Clean, clear, and refreshing... 'clear', that is, if you like dark meat.

Troeg's is quite the brewery, and they're on the right track with this one!

A: a translucent mahogany with a thin head, no lacing.

S: hints of citrus with a slight hop afteraroma that tingles the nostrils.

T: a smooth amber with hints of hops, ginger, and caramel, though it leaves a tinny aftertaste.

MF/D: briefly buzzes the tongue, but slides down smooth and coats the palate. a very enjoyable beverage.

12oz longneck bottle, I've been waiting to try this one for awhile now. Pours into my glass a deep, dark amber with reddish hues and a small bubbly head that quickly becomes a ring around the glass. Aromas of somewhat sweet, nutty malts greet me off the bat closely followed by herbal, citric hops. Lightly toasted...solid stuff.

First sip brings a smooth caramelly, nutty maltiness that's met by some nice herbal, citric hop oils. A bit of a bready taste with a really mellow buttery aspect as well. Flows down with a nice malty sweetness and just a touch of bitterness. Overall, a solid amber ale.

Mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied, really and easy drinkin amber ale that disappears quickly. I like the fact that this is hoppier than most other ambers...overall it's just a solid brew. Nothing that's earth shattering..but I could see it making a good session.

Deep caramel with strong red highlights. Nice transparent body. Full of carbonation bubbles. Head is just offwhite and poured about 3/4" thick and reduced to a thick layer.

The aroma on this is amazing. I have always thought I smelled pine in a beer until I took a wiff of this. The pine sap and cedar is extremely dominate. A touch of citrus with bits of sweet malt coming through. Amazing smell. I think I have a really fresh bottle because it doesn't seem any of the aroma imparted by the hopback used to produce this beer has died down at all. Some of the other reviews don't seem to note a strong aroma in this beer, and I just don't see how unless they got a slightly older bottle. Not many get a 5, but I think this one deserves it as most amber ales aren't extremely strong in the aroma department and this one breaks the mold.

Flavor is a bit lighter than the aroma but is still very unique. A strong pine presence and a finish with a touch of diacytl. Citrus hops round up the back and leave a dry feeling in the mouth. Nicely balanced with some malt as well.

A very nice mouthfeel to this. It seems to be very sticky initially but washes down well leaving only a hint of what was just tasted. Drinkability would be excellent and the beer almost demands it with its dry taste. I think that if this was more available that I would have a new session beer.

Lovely dark reddish amber color.

Mouth watering cascade hops in the nose.

The taste is excellent. Imagine if all amber ales had this much body, personality, LIFE to them. The hops add so much zest to this beer. The carbonation and body are solid - not too upfront, but not watery, either. A great balance.

This beer goes down easy, much like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, just without that special extra "something." You could have many of these in a row. Definitely worth picking up a six-pack.

A - Red/amber with off-white head

S - Tea/heral notes, sweet caramel, mango, pear

T - Herbal/tea flavors, peach, mango, toasted caramel, lemongrass, and a lingering bitter hop finish

M - Medium body with light carbonation and a crisp finish

O - Really refreshing. Great taste, great smell, and low abv make this a great beer to drink. You definitely want to drink a few of these in a session.

Beautful clear, reddish brown color, but disappointingly sparse head. Light floral aroma, nice, not overpowering. There is a strange aftertaste that is like hardboiled eggs which I cannot understand and may just be this batch? Slight caramel flavor. Light hoppiness, not too strong as you would expect from the name. Thick and creamy mouthfeel, makes me think of when your milkshake has melted.... Clean and dry finish, decent drinkability but maybe not as a session beer.

nothing like a good amber beer in the middle of summer to quench your thirst

sure enough poured this beer out into my pint and yup its amber through and through nice off white head too

oh no what happened to the aroma i was hoping for a big hop nose but it was not there yes i did get some hop aroma but it was super faint

but lacking in the nose was more than overcompensated in the taste! big sticky caramel malt drenched in honey and sap but cut through with big bold hop flavor umm bravo great beer

solid mouthfeel on the end it was big without being cloying a really nice balance here

overall a solid beer i could drink this baby in the heat of summer or the dead of winter it doesn't matter its just a great beeri
