Scratch #60 is our harbinger of the coming spring. After reading about the annual German festival - Starkbierzeit - and shuddering at the thought of drinking Trogenator all day long in honor of "strong beer time," we’ve created a Spring Fest designed specifically for "patio time." Measuring in at 5.1% ABV and 39 IBUs, available on tap in the Tasting Room and in Bottles.

Served in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a medium amber color with a medium white head. The head faded to give a rather moderate amount of lacing on the glass.
Smell – The smell is largely of malt being mostly of a biscuit nature. Mixed in with the malt is a light sweet caramel and very light spicy aroma.
Taste – The taste begins as one would expect from the nose; a good bready biscuit backbone with a light caramel sweetness. Toward the middle and the end of the taste the spiciness detected in the nose begins to develop. It is light however as a rather surprising light herbal and citrus hop flavor come into the flavor.
Mouthfeel – The mouthfeel is rather average in terms of body and carbonation level. It is good for the session style and very drinkable.
Overall – An easy drinking with some good flavors. Good to try, but as it is a scratch and a bit more expensive then something like the pale ale (which I find of comparable drinkability) I would likely not go back to this too often.

12oz bottle into snifter. Bottle sent by Stormking47. Thanks man.
A: Pours caramel amber with a finger of fizzy off-white head that faded into a very thin collar leaving minimal spots of lace.
S: Honey, caramel and tons of malty bread crust. Sweet at times with hints of dark fruits and apple juice.
T: Solid bitterness, moderate spice, caramel, red apple, dates and earthy hops come through. Bread crust and a bit of lager yeast are there as well.
M: Medium body, tight carbonation, with a sweet but refreshing mouthfeel.
O: Spicy and sweet. Good dose of bread, low fruit. Drinks well, glad I got to try it. Thanks Josh!

A: Looks pretty much like a lager. Brown that hints towards orange at the edges. About a finger of white head builds up, but doesn't last forever. Not a lot of lacing either. Bubbles race up for a good long while, hinting a nice amount of carbonation.
S: Mostly caramel malts and some sweetness coming out. Nothing really special going on, just bready and malty.
T: Sweet, estery, caramel malts, and breadiness. Really a refreshing lager, but nothing really out of this world. Lager, malty finish.
MF: The light body really makes this drinkable. Medium amount of carbonation and a clean finish.
O: If you like lager, you'll like this. I don't really know why this is listed as a bock? It's not anything special though. Certainly a beer I plan to drink the entire 6pack of!

Served at the brewery in a tall slender glass for $5.
Sampled 24MAR12
[A] Scratch 60 arrives with a puffy 2 1/2 finger high head, very light brown in color and long lasting. The body is medium amber brown and rather clear. Thick rings of lace are deposited all the way down the glass.
[S] Clean lager yeast with mild fruity esters and a caramel backing. Grassy Noble hops, grainy malts. Fairly standard and straightforward nose.
[T] Unimpressed at first - but each additional sip made me realize quickly that this was one hell of a beer. Berry-like malt character is coupled with a lightly spicy hop flavor. Bitterness is firm. Sweetness is kept in check. Just excellent.
[M] Medium light body with a fine, crisp, prickly carbonation. Well attenuated and refreshing. Goes down with incredible ease.
[O] Fantastic lager, perfect for this time of year and with a low-end ABV, this beer is well-suited for long term consumption.

Pours a crystal clear copper color with very little head that settles into nothingness.
The aroma has a slight doughy note from the malt and a peppery spice from the hops. Some grains. Faint.
The taste is of the doughy munich malt, lightly toasted. Has that nice Paulaner Oktoberfest flavor to it. Some light caramel sweetness to go along with a pepper hop presence. Good flavor for the style. Perhaps could use a touch more munich malt flavor.
The feel is moderate with fizzy carbonation. Sweet on the palate with a slight bitterness in the finish. Easy to drink.
A toasted version of a maibock. The flavor doesn't blow you away but is nice.

A- pours an amber color with honey tones. Finger of off white head. Poor head retention.
S- hardly any nose bready with a caramel note. Clean lager yeast on the finish. Overall very muted and subtle.
T- the taste is instantaneous. Bready toasty malt with a light caramel. Finishes clean and crisp which is just another term for flavorless.
MF- watery thin mouthfeel with a light body. Average carbonation.
D- good drinkability but flavorless.
