Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Inspired by the highly hopped beers from the west coast, our double IPA is truly a hophead's delight. Five varieties of American hops added throughout the boil create a wide range of flavors including pine and citrus, while generous dryhopping in the fermentor provides the distinct aroma of fresh hops. We guarantee that this is one of the freshest double IPA's available, giving you a great reason to drink local. 85 IBUs.

First time I've seen a can that has a shrink wrapped label.

Not too shabby a double ipa. More a punch in the mouth with piney and salty hops with some resin in there, as opposed to anything graceful or displaying distinct and deliberate subtle character. Consistent. Feel is good. I like this one. Better than I thought it was going to be. Though, I'm not really sure what I expected from a brewery that's new to me.

One of Chris Fiery's best brews! An excellent, very drinkable double IPA. In the glass it offers an orange amber with glowing golden highlights beneath a frothy white head that holds quite well and leaves some really nice lacing in its wake.

The nose just drips with pungent, citrusy fruit (grapefruit, orange, pineapple) over some grainy, lightly biscuity sweet malt.

The flavor delivers the same hop blast, but it's more rounded with lots of soft, bready/biscuity malt to support it. A bold bitterness backs it, but it's not over-done and there's just enough to balance the girth of the malt. It finishes drying and surprisingly short considering the amount of hops that are in there, leaving you ready for another sip. Well-balanced!!! Very drinkable! Well worth trying.

On tap @ Union Jack's (Boyertown, PA) on 4/11/09. Part of the '09 Easter Hopfest.
Served in a tulip glass.

Pours a crystal clear copper with a finger of solid brite-white foam. Great retention that just keeps bubling and bubling, staying rich, and leaving extremely thick lacing back. The aroma is floral and very spicy with hops, along with a tangy smelling undercurrent of citrus, caramel, and bread.

The taste is overall spicy and tangy feeling, with a hop profile that is more zesty than resinous or bitter. Nice balance to this though, with a solid backbone of toasted malts, caramel sweetness, and juicy tropical fruit flavors. Finishes dryly bitter and spicy. The mouthfeel is medium bodied (that ABV is extremely well hid) with an easy creamy feel up front and slicker carbonation in the back.

I dug this. It definitely packed some West Cost flavors, although they weren't quite as assertive as I might have expected and this overall was maybe even a little too spicy at times in the taste. The balance and especially the body though were very nice, which kept the drinkibility up. A solid hoppy pick here.

Overall your run of the mill IPA. Nothing really stands out other than the slight spicy hops. It has a decent taste and look, smell could be improved on but nothing to complain about. It is easy to drink and a good starter for those just getting into IPAs. Nothing in this beer will scare you away from the style, only your taste buds will!

A: Strong effervesce within an orange peel body of good clarity. A frumpy, cottage cheese textured head is cornsilk white in color, and shows a good holding rate. Lacing sticks well to the vessel with a high rate of coverage.

S: Dry citrus, pine, dry barley with a light sense of delivery. Overall average rate of delivery.

T: The flavor is pretty hoppy, sweet grains and toffee, an immediate awareness of dry citrus. Dry fruit skins and pine, sharp citrus tones, with a dry lingering fade. The alcohol is detected, toasted dry green apple skins, sweet cinnamon rum, baked bread with some underlying warm fruitiness. The hops start kicking in mid-drink masking the initial complexity. A dry toasted grain sweetness and dry citrus soon evolve on the finish with a high degree of awareness and empowerment.

M: slighty syrupy, warm with a slight booziness felt on the inner cheeks. A pinch of alcohol laced citrus dryness finishes off the tongue.

O: Overall a good degree of complexity from the 5 hops arrive early in the drink, the dry hop nature and alcohol soon evolve mid-way. Good hop kick, decent visual, easy packaging (can) with solid good results. The nose seemed the only small aspect holding this back, the flavor holds up its end.
