Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
Originally brewed to celebrate the beginning of the German brewing season and the 1810 wedding of crown prince Ludwig of Bavaria and his bride-to-be, princess Therese of Saxon-Hildburghausen. This amber beer was brewed in March ("Marzenbier") and left to age in cool lagering caves during the heat of the summer. Our rich and satisfying Bavarian-style OctoberFest comes from a special blend of imported German malts that creates a full-bodied brew and stresses a malty flavor and lingering aroma. Gently hopped and delicately balanced, its true-to-style, slow fermentation and long, cold maturation produces a luxuriously smooth, award-winning brew.

A: crystal clear; amber colored; 1 finger khaki head that receded to a thin cap; OK lacing;

S: toasted malt; no hop character;

T: lightly sweet malt up front that gets a little sweeter at mid-palate (but not cloying); lightly bitter finish, but no hop flavor;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: not bad, but not very interesting;

a: clear dark amber color to the point where it boarders on ruby red. some burnt caramel notes in there as well. aggressive pour yields a 2.5 finger white solid head that could hold up a coin

s: caramel, lemongrass, some earthy grains and hops, coriander, vanilla, and that clean lager aroma you pick up in some beers. there is also a slightly sweet generic berry aroma in the background here.

t: caramel, toffee, burnt caramel, lemongrass, a faint earthy bitterness, and brown sugar. finishes extremely clean

m: medium mouthfeel thats almost leaning towards the heavier side. carbonation level is 6/10, pretty spot on for the style

o: definitely an enjoyable Oktoberfest. it checks off all the things i'm looking for in an American-made Marzen. its extremely easy to drink, and the clean finish is very nice

Had on tap many a times. Actually one of my favorite home grown marzens. Try this one fresh and you will see why. Nice caramel sweetness through with a touch of herbal hops.

Pours a deep orange, almost amber color with a thin white head that trails the glass. The wheat and malt come through nicely. The taste was mellow but well balanced with everything to make a delicious and filling oktoberfest style beer. Enjoyed it a lot.
