The Package Store, in the small town of Hebron, has a selection of beers that rivals the heavy hitters like M&R. The owner, Mike, is a beer guy through and through and it shows in his beer selection. The cooler's not huge, so I wish more six packs were cold, however, there's a huge section of that cooler that is all singles. It's always nice when trying a new beer to not have to commit to a full six pack. Definately worth the stop if you're driving past on Rt. 66.

The Package Store is located right in Hebron center, in the same plaza as the supermarket. Very easy to find, located right on Rt 66.
Walking inside, it's more or less a slightly more upscale version of your average family owned liquor store. There's always a nice display of current season beers right in front of the door, and they have an old beer bottle collection, which i believe is Paul Zocco's (local homebrew guru), that makes me envious.
The beer section isn't enormous, but the thing that sets this place apart is two full cooler doors of single bottles, with a rather surprising selection, given that it's a small local package store. They stock brands like Paper City, Cottrell, Thomas Hooker, Victory, Dogfish Head, Old Burnside, and a wide array of single imports. If you want a six pack of something, they have them in the back. They usually stock the harder to find beers, especially for this area of the state. I shop here often, as it's in the next town over from me.
They also have 5-6 cooler doors on the side, filled with more beer, but these are your more run of the mill beers that every store carries. To the right of the singles coolers is an unrefrigerated display of the current seasonals, and several larger 22oz and 750ml bottles, including Rogue, Unibroue and Cisco. Cases of good beer are also available, with Dogfish Head, Thomas Hooker, Magic Hat and Victory on display on my last visit.
The staff is definitely knowledgeable. The manager and a younger guy certainly know their beer, and are happy to help you, special order stuff, and always try to keep the stock interesting. They're usually happy to talk about beer, but one of the other employees knows nothing about alcohol at all. If you hear some kind of wierd music playing, the beer guys are working. If it's classic rock, you're out of luck.
A great store to stop at, if you're staying in the area or passing through. Plenty of singles to sample a good selection of beer, including most of CT's own. The beer is always fresh and rotated, with few exceptions. I've never gotten a bad beer here, and the selection is probably the best in Tolland County.
