330 ml bottle - very refreshing but with a surprising strong flavour of hops. Huge foamy head that lasted a good few minutes before dissipating. High carbonation and crisp mouth feel, perfect for some deep fried food. Very solid overall but slightly disappointed that there is Japanese twist like most Hitachino beers.

Very bubbling and tastefull beer from Japan. Flavour is continous, but gentle. I think this fits for standalone beer because it does not need anything to be good.

Poured from a 330ml bottle. It has a slightly cloudy, golden body, with a thick white head.

The aroma has notes of grapefruit, coconut, hops and grass.

The taste is hoppy, with mild grapefruity sweetness and bitterness. Medium carbonation. The aftertaste has a warm metallic tingling to it.

A solid pale ale, with well balanced hops and sweetness.

L- Rich old-gold, clear, pours with thin white head that is clearing quite swiftly.
S- Seems quite Western/contemporary (hipster) in that there are hints of citrus + perfume, like mandarin+lychee*. With hipster beers this seems to signal a hop-bomb, but that would be contrary to Japanese taste buds, 'the Asian Bitter Gene' etc., so I'm curious how the taste will come over.
T- Well I never, it's pretty hoppy, with some elements of citrus, but being Japanese (seekers of balance) vs hipsters having a hop-hammer competition, it's within decent balance.
F- Quite bright in the mouth, so refreshing, though you can feel some richness and perhaps ABV - hmm well 5.5% it seems. This needs to be served well chilled.
O- 'A western hipster style contemporary beer; just designed for adults who appreciate balance, vs youngsters who seek drama'. I don't go for beers that feature hops that taste of exotic or citrus fruits so am surprised to find it here from Japan of all places. But if they're going to brew this style, they've given a good demo of doing it with balance and class. Might work for me as a start-of-session beer on a hot summer's day.

* My Asian wife gets citrus+peach.

350ml Can from Oddbins, Glasgow (£3.20):
Nice stuff from Kiuchi here, this one was a beer that definitely went down a lot better than expected with a pleasantly fresh taste that opened with some nice citrus & subtle hops coming through. It was balanced & semi-bitter with good carbonation levels & a nice tang as well. Compared to some of the beers that I managed to try in Japan, this one was quite a good offering & well worth trying.

Ah that usual lager aroma. One finger foam that dissipaters rather quickly. Kinda dry, dull and grassy. Finish is clean bitter hop and grassy. Medium bodies. It doesn’t have the bad metallic taste as per most of the local lager. Hmm grapefruit beer with hints of grass? Hmm maybe i not a lager guy, 2.4?

Writing as I drink. 330ml bottle given to me by a supplier poured into a 350ml beer glass.

Nice pale yellow - exactly what you'd expect from a lager with a huge, fluffy white head which hung around for some time. Lots of lacing.

Nose is very pleasant with some apple and pear aromas, malt and floral hops.

Palate is again very nice, with a bitter apple character, perhaps some melon and some grassiness. Very interesting. Slightly sweet but drying. Moderate hop bitterness.

Mouth feel is very nice. Quite creamy.

This is a very good lager. Lots of interesting flavours, smells great, good mouthfeel, refreshing and sessionable.

Highly recommended.

I'm not sure why it's listed as an American Amber though. It's a lager. Hitachino actually produce an American amber.

330ml bottle - thanks to John the Alberta Hitachino rep (Relic1 here) for the sample!

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with two fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat bubbly dirty white head, which leaves a bit of remote ocean atoll lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of grainy and bready pale malt, a bit of tart apple and pear fruitiness, subtle white pepper spice, further indistinct citrus notes, and some plain leafy, grassy, and kind of soapy floral hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, muddled pome and citrus fruit, that strange earthy and sort of musty house yeast thing, ethereal table-top spice, and more leafy, weedy, and dead grassy hoppiness.

The bubbles are quite persistent in their driving fizzy and sometimes more friendly frothy qualities, the body a decent middleweight, and not particularly smooth, as an uncertain edginess takes its toll here. It finishes off-dry, but not by much, the waning graininess holding on for dear life in the midst of some lingering muddled bitterness.

Well, I was expecting somewhat less when I tucked into this one - in the 'there's nowhere to hide in a lager sort of way'. Yeah, me and Hitachino have a mixed history, mostly due to my perception of the yeast that they employ - but here, the lager comes off almost clean, the yeast taking a back seat to a deft application of the ol' hops. Pretty good stuff.

Clear filtered and golden, lots of champagne like carbonation, and 3 fingers of rocky off white head.

Paper, hay, a hint of skunk, a hint of molasses.

Malty with citrus and a grapefruit pith quality. Nicely surprising.

Clean and crisp, light and dry finish with a resinous coating left on the tongue. Light body with low carbonation.

Excellent brew. Whoever said this is an amber is wrong as its a definite golden lager in colour. I would classify it as an American Pale Lager. Drank in Thailand August 16th, 2015.
