Bottle from M&S. Really excited to try this one...

L3.5 Light and inviting but with little head
S4 Burnt orange and spices
T3 matches the smell but without much else. Some sweetness or something is needed. Maybe I’m just addicted to hops.
F3.75 good carbonation, clean, lacking depth
O3.5 disappointing. Would legitimately rather have a blue moon!!

a pretty famous beer here, it has eluded me somehow until now. picked this up under 6 bucks over at colorado liquor mart, who is still chugging along with some hidden gems in the back there. a nice take on a wit, different than almost all of them because of (what i perceive anyway) this fresh ginger in here. a blonde beer with a golden flare, clear for the style, and while there are a ton of bubbles in it, no head really ever builds up. the nose is almost like ginger ale, its so potent to me, i have to believe there is real ginger in it. belgian type yeast is also fruity, while some malt other than wheat i think makes an appearance, giving some light caramel flavors as a base. ginger and cracked pepper in the finish, this could pass as a saison on the yeast character alone, less belgian than saison in that regard. super refreshing, and even though it looks flat, there are a lot of bubbles here in solution. my first beer from this operation is a winner, i like this a lot, different from the masses but still comfortably within what the style asks for. perfect hot weather refresher. super dig it.

Presentation: 11oz short-n-stubby brown bottle. That crazy owl mocks me. Why, owl? Why?

Appearance: There's yeast ... so this baby pours a cloudy straw-coloured beer with a creamy white head. There's also ample stick and an equal covering lace.

Smell: Major clove/ginger aromas that pretty much stifle everything else.

Taste: Ultra-creamy on the palate and light-bodied, actually a very uplifting beer -- that palate literally fills up with creamy beer goodness. Grainy malt characters kick things off and are quickly replaced by a highly refreshing citrusy/orange hop snap and a spicy ginger/clove/coriander character that is relentless. Pepper flavours are also evident, and dominate with the rest. No real sweetness, but there's some dextrin kicking about, especially as a body builder. Finish is dry, with loads of clove afters.

Notes: This is one hell of a unique and outstanding beer! The flavours scramble the shit out of the palate and there's so much depth to this beer that you need an oxygen tank and a slow rise to reality to avoid failing to the bends. Orange? Clove? All these wonderful flavours ... this is all blissful. I'm calm, collective and at one with the universe. This is more of a Wit than most traditional Belgians ... oh, and it's from Japan. Purchase this beer now.

Pale, cloudy. You're in Belgium. You're in an owl's nest in an orange tree, surrounded by herb bushes. The spices surge just as the beer's flavor starts to fade. What's left is a shimmering throatfeel that conjures bananas in crates on pirate ships. Or better yet: a monastic way of life in a Medieval Europe. Or even better: the slowness of fermentation in fast-paced Tokyo. Slow enough for a beer, or a prayer, or a deep breath, or a fermentation process done just right. Slow enough for a deep gaze at the moon.

Cloudy and hazy, with a pale yellow coloration. Very thin head which was quickly faded. Aroma is very floral, citrusy, and bright. Taste follows, with a hoppy, sweet taste underscored by the taste of orange. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, with high carbonation giving the brew a light and refreshing character. First Japanese beer I've had and I'm not disappointed.

720 ml bottle

Straw yellow... appears to be generously carbonated. Nice head. In fact, the head is the only thing that makes this beer appear any different than your typical macro. The color is too dark in my opinion to be a wit.

Very interesting aroma.... strong scent of coriander, creating a very perfumey presence. Now this is what I expect from japanese beer... delicate and complex... in contrast to the Sapporos and Kirins I have had.

Once again... tremendous amount of coriander, this time mixed with a hearty citric flavour...peaches and orange. Delicious, if perhaps a bit heavy handed.

Crisp, yet not so carbonated as to ruin the flavour... actually has a pretty decent body to it. Not too shabby at all.

Would be more drinkable if not for the overwhelming spice.... still a pretty damn tasty beer... were the price a little lower, I'd make this a frequent purchase. As is, however, I will stick with Southampton's Double Wit when given the choice.

aroma: Orange and Corriander right up from with a bit of incense(sp)
Appearance: Hazy Straw Gold
Taste: Just like a belgium wit bit with a bit of herbal flavor in there as well.
Overall: This is the first japanese beer that tastes great and not something flavorless. The aroma was odd at first but its still a great example of a beligum wit.

Appearance: A cloudy yellow, with a snow-white head that positively glitters in the light. The bubbles are tight and tiny at first, then relax to form round, uniform beads. A truly beautiful beer.

Smell: Remarkably floral notes mix well with a summery pineapple and apricot punch. A bready foundation comes through as the beer warms.

Taste: While bitterness is absent, there is a strong floral hop taste that makes me feel as if I'm drinking honeysuckle perfume. The pineapple that I was looking forward to after smelling the beer is, unfortunately, nowhere to be found, and the apricot fades into a quick spritz of lemon. Fortunately, a light clove-like flavor brings a bit of welcome complexity. Although the taste is altogether enjoyable in spite of the aforementioned disappointments, it's also strangely faint, as if a small group of ghostly esters is just floating across the top of the glass.

Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel and medium-high carbonation, with a pleasant effervescent quality.

Overall: Not how I remembered this beer. I remember thinking it was absolutely lovely...but that was years ago. The floral character is fascinating, but the lemon soda water flavor that goes along with it is not. I could smell and gaze at this beer all day, but I would rather taste another.

Poured from a 12 oz glass into a tulip

L: Semi-opaque light golden pour. 2 fingers of foamy white head. Modest rim of lacing.

S: Delicious... juicy and citrus. Loads of lemon and orange. Light grains.

T/F: Crackery grains... follows the nose with lots of citrus. Lemon, orange, and citrus rind. Grassy... earthy with mild spice (nutmeg, coriander). Light in body... zesty carbonation. Finish is sweet lemongrass.

O: A pretty pleasing witbier. Great citrus flavor... easy drinking... very well made.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

A - Pours a cloudy, hazy yellow color with some hues of hay and orange. Its cloudy due to the sediment being shaken into the glass. Flavor! Pours a one finger head that rises and falls quickly leaving some light lacing on the glass.

S - Smell is very light and delicate. Some wheat and citrus coming through. I get some slight yeast and perhaps some very very light malts, clean smelling.

T - Taste is highly of wheat and very light accompaining hops. Some orange and pineapple are noted here. A awesome combination. Such a delicate beer with highly sessionable ability.

M - Mouthfeel is light and not much lingering flavor which is nice.

D - Highly drinkable, perhaps sessionable. Three or four would be easy to do. This may become a beer I keep around in the fridge for those nights where I want to kick a few back.

Poured out a peach Jelly Belly with a moderately sized, thinning head that leaves some scant chunks of lace on the glass. There is a lot of orange upfront in the nose with a spiciness that lingers on longer than the initial citrus. Aroma is overall light and relatively clean. In the flavor, spice comes out more along with wheat cracker/ Finishes tart, dry and has a slight tannic(?) astringency. Mouthfeel is light and lively. Apropos. A very refreshing and flavorful wit with a welcome tartness in the finish. I like it.

Pours a very murky straw color with a cap of white foam that disapears immediately, leaving little to no head and lacing. Smell is wonder - floral, yeasty, biscuty, bready, lemony, vinous, apple, sweet, tart, acidic all in one. The aggressive scent does not signify the most aggressive taste... all the components from the scnet are there, but a tad more muddled. The tart, acidic and sweet notes a bit more present in the taste as well as the biscuityness. Medium bodied, slightly oily feeling and dry finnish. A unique beer at the top of the witbier foodchain.

murky orange and fledling white head, appropriate but not a beauty
Smell is mainly peppery with some orange notes and wheat things
Taste is more towards orange peel, the aromatic oils part not the piff or bitterness, some tartness probably from the wheat
drinks smooth and refreshing
Great take on witbier, not traditional but still classic

Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a cloudy gold, with a small carbonated head. This beer has a very strong aroma. It smells mainly like citrus, with some coriander and yeast too. It tastes very citrusy, with a slight spicy (coriander and ginger) aftertaste. The mouthfeel is light, with a decent amount of carbonation. It goes down very easy and it's a refreshing beer, great for drinking in spring or summer. This is much better than I expected it to be, I'll have to pick up another one of these again pretty soon.
