a: a mix of dark brown and black with a ruby red note at the bottom of the glass. large 3-4 finger off white & tan head that fades and settles at about 1 finger

s: dark cherries, oak, toasted malt, smooth coffee, raisins, sweet toffee, a hint of burnt coffee beans

t: much more of that coffee/espresso in the flavor than the nose. right away its those espresso beans. that rich and toasted espresso fades to roasted malts, some sweet berries, caramel/toffee, and a nice creaminess. its not overly complicated, but its tasty

m: medium mouthfeel, with a little bit of sugary-syrup lingering feel. tiny bit of carbonation

o: this is my first offering from this brewery, and i'm quite impressed. its nothing mind blowing, but it definitely offerers a nice espresso flavor, and is backed by some other nice flavor you tend to see i a stout of this style. worth a try.

Poured a black body with one finger tan head that dies quick with little lace patches. Aroma is mostly roasted coffee malts but there is some sweetness in the aroma as well. The beer is thin, smooth, easy drinking fare that tended to be a little sweeter than some coffee styles which is my preference. Strong roasted coffee notes are balanced with a very slight espresso/milk/vanilla sweetness for both a dry and sweet beer (this sweetness helps the beer pass so easy over tongue). Rather simple and mild beer but it really hit the spot for me.

(bottle code ES.13.04 - poured into a balloon)

A: dark, probably opaque black liquid... 2 finger width, dense, meringue-y, mocha-colored foam - doesn't seem to want to settle out

S: bold and beautiful, finely-ground espresso aroma, delicately roasty... light-moderate medicinal alcohol... dark chocolaty malt base

T: smooth, dark roasty malts and bittersweet chocolate... the coffee lingers like a mist in the aftertaste... subtle acidic funkiness starting to creep in, however, it either hasn't quite taken hold, drying it out, or a judicious portion of crystal malt and residual sugars has kept a fortunate modicum of sweetness to keep a sense of balance... ultimately, it has a fine European cocoa foundation with an aura of bitter espresso dusting it

M: expansive, wavy, and medium-full bodied, holds, then finishes with a vanishing drop... delicate, gritty scraping of the tastebuds in the afterglow... hint of alcohol desiccation on the back of the palate

O: quite excellent, even after a year... don't know how sweet it is fresh, but it seems like this has dried out nicely with nary a smudge of oxidation... very well done
