A difficult style to execute, in Belgium or elsewhere.
Served with a nice pub meal before a music show at Disney. As a fan of Flanders style ales, as opposed to more potent sours I had to try it. Color was medium dark red as it should be but aroma and taste were underwhelming. Surprisingly little tartness, body, or yeast aroma, all of which should be staples of this style.
Good to see a chain brewery branching out, it's a great sign for craft brewing as a whole and the beer is drinkable enough to disappear fairly quickly.

Whenever I hear the name "Flanders", I often think of two things; a region in Belgium, and that Simpson's character Ned Flanders. This beer attempts to roll those two into one. On-tap at the Costa Mesa locale in a shaker pint, on to the beer:
Amber orange colored with a soft looking head with solid retention. Some creamy lace sticks around the glass. The nose instantly says "Flanders" with tart fruitiness, but the backdrop of a dry bread crust canvas and even a hint of peppermint make a really sharp contrast to the tartness. Call me strange, but I like it.
Its taste has a similar character to the aroma. The tart fruitiness is there, so is the dry bread crust character. Again, it makes an interesting contrast. Tart strawberries and shortcake? The aftertaste is plleasant, being bready and tart.
Not the prototypical Flanders Red, as the base is usually much sweeter and caramely. Still, it is a fun Americanized take.
