Very Good
Mother's Milk StoutMother's Milk Stout
Notes: As the name implies, Mother’s Milk is a dark and creamy milk stout. Hints of oatmeal, chocolate and of course, milk make this brew have a remarkably smooth and silky finish, a classic example of the style.

Dark black, roasty and coffee aroma. Full, roast and coffee satisfying drink. Milk, some chocolate in finish. And I do not order coffee any longer. Very good stout in all respects. Thanks to the recommendation of the owner of Cable Beverages. And I recommend in turn.
Had again 4.3 years later and still very good.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell reminds me of a chocolate milkshake. Taste is coffee, I didn't see that coming, some chocolate, moderate bitterness at the finish. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a pretty good beer.

"Batch #217 16." Poured into stout glass. It pours nearly black, with dark cola hues when held to the light, and one finger of creamy, khaki-colored head and lacing with nice retention. It smells of roasted malt, cream, dark chocolate and strong coffee. The taste juxtaposes sweet cream with burnt coffee grounds. There is also a subtle taste of baker's chocolate. It finishes surprisingly bitter. This stout is moderately bodied and fairly creamy, lightly carbonated, and the ABV of 6% gives it some substance. Overall, it is a decent milk stout but too bitter at the finish for my taste. It would be interesting to try it on nitro. Given the choice, I'd prefer Left Hand's or one of the English-brewed Milk Stouts.

Look: Black, totally opaque. No head to speak of.

Smell: Dark chocolate, cream.

Taste: Same as the aroma with the addition of a slight coffee.

Feel: Slight bite of the sip, finishes creamy.

Overall: A solid stout. Would quite happily have it again.

A: opaque; very dark brown in color; 1 finger light brown head that receded to a very thin cap; OK lacing;

S: deeply roasted grains; a hint of bittersweet chocolate and even less coffee in the background;

T: roasted grains with lightly bitter coffee with milk; the moderate bitterness stays through the finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: good, but not memorable;

On-tap at Rattle-n-Hum in NYC. Listed as 3.0% ABV at the bar.

Pours one shade from black with dark brown highlights and a one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of smooth roasted malts, dark chocolate, light coffee, and sweet dark malts, in that order. Unlike most other milk stouts the roastiness sticks around even as the beer warms.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Roasted malt flavors up front are backed up by decent amounts of unsweetened chocolate and much lighter amounts of roasted coffee. Midway through the sip the malt flavors sweeten a bit and carry through to a mildly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with active carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could have a few of these at such a low ABV.

Overall this is by far the lowest ABV Milk Stout I've come across and it's also one of the best. It's definitely got more of an edge than others in the style but it's very much worth a shot.

D: Average to good

Black pour with a lasting tan head. Slightly transluscent. Smell is light coffee with definitely milky creaminess, but not heavily. Hint of cardboard in the nose. Taste is mild roastiness with some creaminess and a finish of metal and cardboard. Some off flavors keep it from being better, but I thought it was still pretty decent and drinkable. Thanks Dave!

A: Pours an opaque dark jet black in color with some extremely light hints of dark amber/red to dark brown. The beer has a three finger tall dark tan head that reduces to a very thin film over the entire surface of the beer, with a thick patch, and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant lacing is observed.

S: The aroma of this beer is dominated by dark roasted malts with some lighter hints of dark semi-sweet chocolate.

T: There is a very strong flavor of dark roasted malts with some hints of the milk sugars (or lactose). I also detect some light hints of milk chocolate. The beer has a light amount of lingering bitterness in the finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and creamy.

O: Easy to drink, enjoyable, and very sessionable. This beer could easily be drank/drunk all night long. Nice complexity to the smell and taste.

Mother's milk has a dark brown body with a good-sized, very frothy brown head. The head has some great retention, and it manages to leave some good lacing behind also.

The aroma has general sweetness, roasted notes, a bit of coffee and some chocolate.

The flavor follows the aroma. As far as milk stouts go, Mother's Milk is certainly drier and much less sweet than most others that I have tried. Roasted malts add a lot of flavor, followed by coffee, some light sweetness and bakers chocolate.

The mouthfeel is a tad thin, but the carbonation adds just a hint of creaminess to the feel, which is nice.

Mother's Milk is pretty good. The flavor profile seems to be a cross between a milk stout and just a normal, roasted, single American Stout.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown color and a thick, murky consistency. There was very little head or lacing to speak of.

S: A nice chocolatey, malty aroma. Very enticing.

T: Tasted of milk chocolate, malt, and a hint of coffee as well. This has to be one of the most robust, sharpest, and most flavorful milk stouts I've tried.

M: A highly carbonated beer with a dry, crisp finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A completely enjoyable, totally drinkable beer.
