Brewed using the excess from their Hurricane Kitty recipe, this beer is combined with 1000 pounds of local Hudson Valley honey, oak chips, and several additions of hops during the 6 month conditioning period.

Poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a ruggedly semi-dark murky orange/coppery brown color with a level finger's worth of white foamy head. Slight dissipation fairly slow to leave some concave sliding lace.
The aroma had a nice blend of honey to oak chips meshing with a toasty caramel/toffee malt backbone. Light floral sweetness and a touch of grassiness.
The flavor takes all of the prior mentioned aromas to sweetly mesh together. Smooth aftertaste with the malts sliding over those wood chips.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation and ABV felt appropriate. Super smooth finish with a moderate grip.
Overall, pretty nice American strong ale borderline barleywine-ish sort of character. Would welcome again preferably in colder weather.

On tap at the Good Life in Massapequa Park, LI, NY... Reminded me of a barleywine... Ruby brown body with just a wisp of head and very little by way of lace trails. Flavors and aromas of caramel and honey-soaked dark fruits, edged with a bit of resinous shellac, bringing an earthy, piney, hoppy edge to an otherwise sweet and strong beer. Just enough abv slips through to make sure you respect your pace. Smooth and full-bodied with a bit of chew and a hint of stickiness on the finish.

Bottle purchased at One Stop Brew Shop in Rochester, NY.

It pours a clear reddish amber, with a 1.5 inch head, and a good amount of lacing.

Smells ike honey, oak, bitter piney and leafy hops, booze, and caramel.

This feel like a less refined version of Double Bastard. It's super raw, with lots of oak, big caramel malt character, heavy duty piney and grassy hops, grapefruit rind, and nice calming honey sweetness amidst the maelstrom of intense flavor. I was able to take down the entire bottle, but it certainly wasn't easy.

This is medium bodied. The alcohol doesn't present itself as much as you'd expect it to, which is nice.

A really interesting and well-crafted beer, but certainly a bruiser.

A: Pours a reddish amber in color with a white two finger head that breaks leaving fine lacing in its stead.

S: The first smell I pick up is the honey, followed by sweet malts and dark fruits. Then you get the hops that come from the IPA base.

T: The honey again, but the hops move forward more than the malts which are still very present. Caramels and dark fruits are also present. The oak starts out mellow, but the more you sip, the more you notice it.

M: Good carbonation, medium body with a nice finish.

O: I came in with zero expectations on this beer as I know nothing about the brewer. I was given the beer as a gift and chose to read no reviews on the beer. I am really quite impressed with this beer. If I had greater access to the brewer, I would buy more, but instead I will just keep my eye out for more of this very enjoyable beer. I really enjoyed honey component and feel that this may have smoothed out some of what may otherwise been rougher edges to the beer.

A: clear; reddish amber in color; poured carefully to avoid the yeast bed and got < 1 finger off white head that receded quickly to a thin collar; no lacing;

S: dark fruit with a little oak and alcohol;

T: dark fruit up front; mixes with molasses, which completely take over; all malt; just a touch of bitterness after the swallow;

O; medium to full bodied; light to moderate carbonation;

O: other than a touch of bitterness at the end, got no hop character out of this; enjoyable just the same; smooth for 12% ABV; will seek out again;

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a nonic pint tasting glass.
A= Amber to orange, thick reddish tan head.
S= The sweet fermented honey hits you first, some alcohol and dark fruits, some pine scented hops.
T= Caramel, lots of fermented honey, some alcohol. Other reviewers mention bitterness, I did not perceive that at all. Could taste the oak in the finish and aftertaste, but somewhat light on the oak flavor.
M= Bubbly and a bit syrupy, though not unpleasant.
O= Definitely an interesting beer, and based on other reviews, seems to change by batch and aging. Differences in honey used or oak during brewing batches makes that seem reasonable .

Poured with force into my Duvel snifter from their wax-sealed swing-top 22 oz. bottle. Bottle number: 33/500.

Aroma: Sweet malt, raisin or fig, wood, bright piney hops, and alcohol work in concert. A small undertone of something… I can’t identify it.

Sight: On the dark side of amber, beige head that at first takes up ¾ of my Duvel snifter. It recedes after a minute or two. Tiny bubbles make their way to the top, in part due to the nucleation site at the bottom- a gothic “D.” Floaters also exist in the beer. Must be an old bottle, but fine by me (and yes- 11/2013 after I look for a date on the bottle).

Taste: Strong echo of the aroma, the wood chips easier to detect, as are the hops. Inspecting the bottle, I read it’s a steroid-version of their I.P.A., which makes a bit of sense, as it reminded me of a D.I.P.A., but at the same time, something more. The bottle as lists honey as an ingredient. I canay taste it, but I suppose it adds to the overall sweetness. This might be a little too bitter for me without it.

Feel: Pretty tingly, and oily brew, sporting a medium body. It’s bottle conditioned with more yeast, so that might explain it. We’ll call it a three second finish.

Overall: Very cool to have tried this one, and though I like American Strong Ales, this one didn’t quite do it for me.
