A - Very dark brown, but some light does make it though. Nice tan head that fades to a light covering.

S - Equal amounts of citrus hops and roasted malts.

T - Interestingly enough, this is the first Black IPA that the hops were the first thing I noticed. They come on strong, but not overwhelming, lots of hop flavor. Then the chocolate and coffee from the roasted malts quickly make their presence known. Definitely add some flavors, but let the pale malt base still play a role. Nice complexity.

M - Light body, finishes pretty crisp.

O - One of the better Black IPAs I have had, they put in just enough chocolate and black patent malt in there to add complexity without turning it into a hoppy Porter.

Om draft at The Lark, East Northport, New York

Poured a deep black with a one finger foamy white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a lively citric hop intruded on by a subtle burnt caramel.

The Tate consisted of an upfront citric and piney hop atop a secondary burnt maltbans light carmel sweetness.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a very tasty hop driven black IPA.

On tap at the brewery - into pint glass.
Pours a jet black - little head, little lacing.
Nice hop aroma; mixed with roasted malts.
Taste is of smooth roasted malty hops. Ever so slight coffee flavor...
Overall, nice Black IPA. Nice flavor, nice aroma, nice balanced and well executed overall brew. Not worth driving to kingston for, but worth a try if you ever see it.

On tap at the Lark in East Northport, NY: pours black color with brown around the edges, it had a creamy 1 finger tan head that faded slowly and left decent creamy lacing.

Smells of chocolate malt, caramel, cocoa powder, charcoal, floral hops, piney hops, lemon zest and peat moss; very nice combo of roasted malts and hops for nice balance.

Tastes of chocolate malt, burnt grains, caramel, cocoa powder, burnt wood or charcoal, floral hops, dark fruit, piney hops, lemon zest, citrus hops, light grapefruit and peat moss; trails off bitter with a chocolate flavor that's got lemon zest and shows decent balance even though the malts are very strong.

Mouthfeel is crisp and zesty, with a medium chewy body, average carbonation and a bitter finish. A very nice black IPA that leans more on the stout or porter side, but is still highly drinkable.

A very solid beer with enough malt and hops in it to keep it interesting and flavorful. I was at the bar with a bunch of people and 4 of had an enjoyed this beer so much that we all had seconds.

on tap at the dutch during lunch with buddies.

Pours a jet black with ruby on the edges, small off white head with fair retention. lacing clings to the side of the glass a bit. Nose with fairly bland, hints of roast and chocolate. Taste is roast and hint of chocolate. Cutting bitterness but not much hop flavor. Mouth is dry, chewy, and astringent. Tough to swallow one, yet alone two (sorry coldbrewky.)

A: Poured from the growler into a pint glass. Bodys is dark black with ruby highlights when backlit. A 1-finger bubbly, foamy tan head settles on top, leaves a little bit of lace.

S: Pleasant, but not too strong in the nose - roasted barley malt and citric hops are both evident.

T: Follows the nose, more or less: roasted barley malt with a touch of charcoal (more noted as it warms). Hops are both earthy and citrusy, provide a nice flavor to offset the roasty bitterness from the dark malt.

M: A tad bit lighter in heft than expected, but still - it's not "thin" or "watery." Carbonation is moderate.

O: A solid ABA. I'd get it again.

A - Dark, black color with maroon highlights. Nice tan head with low retention, and a decent lacing that lingers.

S - Notes of roasted coffee, toffee, and caramel with a touch of hop aroma.

T - Mellow earthy hop taste throughout, nice roast on the backend with some smoke presence, and a malty base.

M - Medium body with a decent carbonation.

O - Not the best Keegan brew, but very drinkable. More mellow than other Black IPAs but that adds to its overall drinkability. The addition of the slight roast flavor helps add to the complexity of the taste and makes it an enjoyable beer.
