Trying the St Austell on British Air from JNB to London. It poured a clear copper with white head that is not leaving much of a lace. The scent has hints of caramel with bitter hop flare. The taste is fairly even but has slight bitterness from start to finish. The Mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's decent and worth a try.

Reviewed from notes taken during a trip to Glasgow, Scotland in January 2011. Served from a cask into a pint glass in the Bon Accord pub.

A: Thin head of decent retention. Gold-copper colour; transparent.

Sm: Light barley; limited scent typical of cask ales.

T: Slick open to unremarkable body of standard bitter hops, malt, and barley. Finish is nice and crisp-like.

Mf: Too smooth; almost watery.

Dr: Wouldn't have it again now, but sure it'd appease fans o' the style.

1/2 pint on cask at the Oysterhead in Polzeath, Cornwall.

A: Reddish-brown, no head on this cask ale.

S: sweet, mellow, malty

T: Very mellow and smooth and mildly sweet.

M: Very smooth, almost no carbonation, a slight sticky/oily residue that is very pleasant.

D: incredibly drinkable--one of the smoothest bitter cask ales I've ever had!
