It tastes warm even when it's cold. Super salty and you're pretty guaranteed a hang over after drinking half of one. Harsh and barely tolerable when offered to you when free. Gives Nova Scotia beers a bad reputation.

There is a sign by the road in Ingonish, Nova Scotia, that says, "If its nae Scottish, it's crrrrap." This stuff is nae Scottish. I'm pretty sure it's nae beer, either. I laughed out loud when I read a reviewer's note below that he assumed they'd hooked the wrong keg up to the tap, which is exactly what I asked the waitress. She apologized, said it might have happened, and brought me a bottle of it instead. One sip and I realized the error had happened at the brewery, when they created this swill, rather than at the bar. New rule: always, always, always consult Beer Advocate before trying something new. Sad, but better safe than sorry.

Pours a crystal clear straw color with a small effervescent white head. Leaves no lacing whatsoever before completely disappearing.

The aroma is.....mineral water? Soggy bread? Maybe some corn or grains in the background. Very faint but also gross.

The flavor is repulsive. Like a skunky AAL. Extremely metallic with some corn and grains. No hop presence whatsoever. This kind of tastes like a mediocre IPA that's been packaged in a green bottle and left out in the sun for 9 months. No other way to describe it.

The feel is literally water. Very little carbonation. No crispness or dryness. It's just water.

Overall, this is unquestionably one of the worst beers I've ever had. I didn't expect anything good but holy crap did I not expect something this awful either. There's zero hop presence, minimal malt presence, no bitterness and very little sweetness. Is this even beer?

What is this, exactly? It's near ubiquitous in Canada, and some people think misguidedly that because it's from the Maritimes and all the good ole boys back home drink it, that it must be good.

Piss poor. I'd rather drink a malt liquor or even a non-alcoholic beer. I put this where it belongs, with all the other big dominant mediocre beers on the Canadian market (ie all the Coors, Molsons, and Labatts.) It's a macro style lager taste, and I honestly wouldn't know this was an IPA if you put it beside any of the anemic tasteless swill that comes from the Big Brewers.

Undated bottle into pint glass. Pours a clear gold-straw color with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Initial impression is WFT??? Tastes like a PBR Light, with maybe a little more corn. Definitely not an IPA. Not even close.

This is not good. Stay away. Stay far, far away.

Tried this twice on a recent trip to Canada. It seemed to be everywhere up there. I found this to be one of the worst IPA's I've ever had.

The color and appearance were decent, however the beer had no aroma, nothing from the hops. It's tastes like a blonde ale, or possibly even a macro lager with the tiniest pinch of hops in it. Salty. Watery, yet still somehow thick with a terrible mouthfeel. Flat. Tasteless. Actually, it tastes like they made this using a blonde ale and a diaper. It's bad, and I'm not sure I'd drink it again if it was free.

The fact they call this and "India Pale Ale" and are able to print it as such on the label is an absolute disgrace.

Would have given ZERO if possible.
AHA! You just got fooled by AB-Inbev!
This is not an IPA by far. Very very far.
This is a regular lager sold as IPA because IPA is “fancy” now.
And by the way, it’s not even a good lager, it’s a very crappy one.
Don’t waste your time with this crap.
In fact, they should be sued for misleading customers.

Presentation: 12oz brown twisty, with a red stag head on the label. "Union Made", do they have a brewer's union in Nova Scotia? Manni says that a while back, the beer was called "Stag Ale" (or something similar).

Appearance: This is as clear and pale as a beer can get, without being called Zima. I've never seen a beer this clear.

Smell: Clean with a very faint hop aroma. Hints of steamed corn, a sign of (DMS; dimethyl sulfide).

Taste: A refreshing mouth-feel, similar to a lager yet different enough not to be. Corn flavours are dominant, with thin hop bitterness. Leaves your mouth sharp, and a bit dry, afterwards.

Notes: Not sure how true to the IPA style this is, but it is a nice light ale with an 5% abv. Good hot day beer, as it is extremely refreshing and one could easily toss back many of these without getting bloated.

Let me preface my review: I had just driven 500 miles from Albany NY to Petrolia ON to pick up a pinball machine, then drove another 100 or so miles back to Brantford ON (where being the birthplace of Wayne Gretzky is a booming cottage industry) in the space of 13 hours. In 90 degree heat. And no A/C.

I tried Keith's IPA in a ice cold 1 liter mug at a local pub. And, under those conditions at that time, it was the perfect beer. I've never had a beer cut through a thirst like that before or since. Nothing fancy, lightly flavored and inoffensive, but it knows its job and does it spectacularly well.

Overpriced, to begin with. Calling this an IPA is an insult to the style too. This is in the same ballpark as say a Molson Ex or a Labatt 50. Nothing special at all. An IPA... Where are the hops?! I wouldn't turn one down but i certainly wouldn't go searching for it... or buy it again for that matter.

Alright, i'll start by saying i've been to Nova Scotia and wish that Garrison imported their IPA out over here! Also, Saskatoon based Paddockwood needs to bring their IPA back into production!

this is not a real IPA in my mind, it's weak, very weak with only the faintest of hints of being an IPA.

Seems like many others had the same disappointing experience with this supposed IPA that I did.

I went and visited the brewery and was completely excited to get some brewery fresh beer until I tried this. Very disappointing.

A: Pours pale, straw yellow with very little head.

S: almost overproduced, there was zero hints of the fruity tones found in other IPA's i've tried. slightly metalic/bitter smell.

T: the taste was thin, there was a cornish taste to it mixed in with the faintest of hop. eesh.

M: medium carbonation and feel is not bad.

D: it's one of the most available beers at the local pubs and is always on special. it's better than budweiser and kokanee.

A clever little bear, spread through comedic marketing tools (Kind of a "Bud Light" from eastern Canada). And really a better beer if your sitting in a bar, faced with Coor-Bud-Molson draught choices.

Pours with a 1/2 inch head, fading quickly into nothingness, no lacing. Hoppy aroma, a bit yeasty.

Taste is a slight bitterness at the finish with some mild fruity interludes. Nothing special, gets a tad dull near the bottom of the glass.

Mouthfeel is watery, with lively carbonation.

A lawnmower or lesser-of-two evils beer, not terrible but not amazing.

Appearance: clear, straw colored, high carbonation, big head

Smell: faint, grass and small hops

Taste: also very weak, grass--small hops on the end, almost water like

Mouthfeel: watery, high carbonation, smooth, slightly bitter end.

Drinkability: The worst Keith's I have tried. Most IPAs I have are somewhat bitter. This has a touch of bitter on the end, but that is it. It is weak and watery. One is more than enough as this is a huge disappointment.

On-tap at EastSide Mario's at the Park Plaza Hotel in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

This sure seemed to be a popular beer...I saw many, many pints being poured while I waited for my food at the bar. Sadly, these people don't know what they are missing. This stuff should be called "Canadian Budweiser". That's exactly what it tasted like. By no means an IPA.

Appearance is a clear dull blond in color, with hefty carbonation. Minimal white lace atop that tries (and fails) to lace. Aromas are brief and muted. Some floral hops and caramel sweetness. Flavor is macro. Short-lived and snappy. Starts with a dose of wheaty-corn, middle shoots a round of grassy hops, and finishes with a dry and short-lived aftertaste.

As a lager, this is OK. As an IPA, it's an insult to the name.

I had this at a college bar in Toronto, hoping it would be a bit better than the Labatt's and Moosehead also available. I figure, if you're going to make an IPA, then it's probably not fizzy yellow stuff, right? Wrong. It's fizzy yellow stuff - by appearance this is dark straw with minimal head and a coarse carbonation. No perceptible hop aroma. No perceptible bitterness or flavor, and even the malt falls painfully flat. It's hard to imagine a mouthfeel below "not impressed", so it gets 2 points there. All in all, I suppose this is drinkable if you're out of Bud Light, but I can't give it much more than that.

Serving glass: Poured from tap.

Appearance: Looks like a pale lager with a thin white cap. Well, some IPAs are really pale.

Smell: Smells like a pale lager with corn and light spicy hops. Uh oh.

Taste: Tastes like a pale lager. WTF? At least it tastes like a full flavored adjunct lager. Some light hops but still taste some corn.

Feel: High carbonation, light to medium body. Finish could use some help.

Overall: WTF

Basically this is a Canadian BMC. Pours almost clear has no hop aroma or bitterness at all. I bought it because it was in a can and appeared to possibly be a craft beer. But not, not at all. I think its better then a Miller but not by much although I'd rather support a bad small company than BMC.
