Notes: Coffee Pumpkin Ale

A pumpkin ale with the attitude of a world-weary barista, Punkuccino packs a short shot of Stumptown coffee toddy in your pint with just a shake of cinnamon and nutmeg. Pale, Bown, Biscuit, C-77 Crystal, Chocolate and Kiln-Coffee malts provide the body, German Northern Brewer lends a touch of bitterness, and lactose sweetens just a touch. Three pumpkin additions, in the mash, kettle and fermenter.

Deep brown, not totally opaque though, decent head and some minor lacing. A little pumpkin pie on the nose. Blackened toast and pumpkin pie flavors are present. Lightly carbonated and light feeling. Pretty good beer, among Elysian pumpkin ales this is second best.

L: Pours a tan brown khaki with a brown orange color.

S: Lots of pumpkin pie spice, pumpkin, and a lighter roasted coffee.

T: Nice pumpkin pie spice mixes with a rich coffee and slight chocolate, and finishes with pumpkin. A very interesting pumpkin beer.

F: Medium body and slick carbonation.

O: A very interesting take on the pumpkin beer.

"Experience by 1/21/23"; drank 9/30/22 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque brown/orange appearance.

A rough pour yielded small khaki head; frothy lace.

Pumpkin pie notes in the nose; where's the cappuccino?

Medium mouthfeel.

Pumpkin pie flavors, with faint medium roast coffee bean notes; a basic pumpkin (pie) beer that doesn't stand above the crowd.

As a former pumpkin beer fan, the last few years have had me thinking I've outgrown the style. However, I bought a mixed sixer this year and am pleasantly surprised by Punkuccino. Perfect mix of pumpkin and coffee, without being cloying. Will definitely look for others from the Elysian Pumpkin pack.

Bottle.

Khaki head. Lace. Caramel brown color.

Fun pumpkin beer with the coffee addition. Kind of a basic beer, but fun. Coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin.

12 oz bottle with a January 2023 BB date stamped on the label.

This seems to have a stout or porter base: it has a dark reddish-brown body with dark roasted grains in the flavor. The coffee is barely detectable, probably being masked by the "pumpkin pie spicing" component. While this has an appealing aroma the flavor is relatively disappointing. .

I like this idea. It's a gimmick, yes, but nothing about it is insanely extreme and/or offputting. These flavors should work well together. There's a whole genre of anti-white woman jokes about pumpkin spice being blended with coffee, after all.

Pour is nice and dark but a bit still, with only minimal fizz and a head that quickly dissipates.

Aroma is exactly what I was hoping it would be when I read the beer's description: pumpkin spice, smooth sweet coffee, and a bit of stout barley. Very nice.

Flavor is quite good, but it doesn't fully gel thanks to a disappointingly thin body. Flavor combination is straightforward: nutmeg and cinnamon up front, a very smooth stout in the middle that does a wonderful job balancing gentle sweetness and mild hop bitterness, and then charred barley on the finish. Again, it's very good, but the body stops it short of greatness.

Look: Jet black pour with minimal lacing/ foam risen to the surface.
Smell: Aromas of caramel, chocolate, coffee, nutmeg.
Taste: Follows the tongue, caramel coffee chocolate with slight nutmeg.
Feel: Medium bodied, smooth, easy to drink.
Overall: This is a nice fall/winter stout! I love these stouts because you can sit in front of a fire and sip on this and have a great time!

It’s a pumpkin cappuccino milk stout, creamy and almost a little boozy. What else can you ask for?

With a extra dark mahogany color, the aroma and flavor is balanced citrus, toffee and some warm spices, malty biscuit, subtle mocha and just the right small amount of fresh citrus and warm spices. The carbonation is balanced with aftertaste of cinnamon latte with a hint of citrus. There is lactose added, but this is one of the excellent coffee beers around. I love the fact that the coffee compliments the beer, not covering up what’s missing towards it! Definitely a great choice if you love coffee with your beer.

Another fantastic pumpkin beer from Elysian. A dark, stout like liquid. Large head with a nice amount of lace.
Nose that smell like a pumpkin latte with a shot of espresso. Taste follows suit with a sweet, coffee infused pumpkin pie character. Malt is toasty and roasty. A touch of molasses and charred marshmallow. A nice firm earthy hops bitterness to clean up the finish. Lots of coffee lingering. Crisp carbonation with a slightly heavier than medium weight that still drinks easy. You just want to slow down a little and let it pass your tastebuds with care. This is a good sit on the porch on a crisp clear night and let the beer take the chill off. Fall Fire Pit party anyone?

DATE: November 6, 2021... OCCASION: family game night ends in a Monopoly victory for Will... GLASSWARE: Lindemans pokal tulip... pours a black coffee body with thick frappaccino-like light-cream head... bright, punchy coffee bean, light cream, chocolate and peat... alluring and full for a 6% ABV.... speaking of that weight, what a smooth drag this provides, with a textured, medium-bodied creaminess that thickens at the throat, coating it with a viscosity worth savoring... the frothy head is especially notable here, adding to the experience... coffee bean, vanilla, chocolate, grape, toasted oats, cinnamon, nutmeg, and anise make this bigger than its ABV... what a great bedfellow in Elysian's pumpkin sampler... I will seek this out again next year, either in the sampler or as a stand-alone...

Pours to light tan head. Dark brown in color. Sweet coffee almost expresso aroma. Sweet on the tongue with almost no bitterness. A hint of cinnamon or pumpkin. Excellent flavor and great for the desired flavor profile. A very nice ale for the fall season.
