Cool beer labels of the fantasy path are far too rare! We dig this dragon, precious!
Poured into a pint glass, after enjoying a good swim, and lounging in a steam room.

Black with a tan head, thins out quick yet lingers. Nice lacing.
Smells of malty chocolate.
Strong, bitter Oatmeal, faint chocolate, with a sneaky, tangy aftertaste, otherwise nigh Imperial caliber Stout.

It reminds me of an Obsidian Stout, turned busy; added Oatmeal and some sharp, tangy citrus fruits. A rather bold choice, pulled off! Cheers!

Pours a dark coffee color with a very thick head for a stout. The head last for about 10 minutes.Smells deep and malty. It tastes VERY rich and complex. It is complimented by more carbonation than other stouts I've enjoyed

The beer is black with a nice foamy tan head. Smells like chocolate and roasted malts with a hing of char. Tastes similar to how it smells. A strong roasted flavor with a touch of char that leaves a bitterness. The beer goes down smooth.

Bomber from Vons for $7.99. Big fan of Elysian and wanted to try it.

L: Beautiful. Looks like a stout. Thin lacing, but there. Could use more head. Almost one finger.

S: Vanilla, milk chocolate, roasted malt, oatmeal, and dark dried fruit, in that order. Again, beautiful.

T: Sour like a Cabernet Sauvignon, the charcoaly flavor strikes immediately, initially filling with soft, smooth bready oats before drying out into toasty rye/barley crust mixed with dark chocolate and roasted coffee with a mocha finish. Excellent.

F: Surprisingly thin, probably because of a lower sugar content than most American stouts. Definitely wasn't over sweetened, which I appreciate.

O: An awesome Brew from some brilliant artists. Cheers!

Pours a dark brown color with honey edges and a thin layer of head. The nose is more smokey than roasty. The body is definitely thin for such a big stout. The roast is lighter than some basic stouts. Also, there is an odd perfumey note in the flavor.

Dark and velvety, head is a little too frothy. Aroma wafts from the pour, semi sweet chocolate and roast grains. Taste is smooth and slick, minor bitterness, but mellow, rich flavor. This is really, really good stuff.

From a bottle, pours an opaque black with a one-finger lingering dark tan head. Rich aroma of dark roasted malt. Taste follows as very malt forward, with noticeable carbonation, a decently full mouth feel, and a hop driven tangy finish. While it's somewhat "creamy", it's carbonation and hoppy-tang make this fairly UN-oatmeal-stout-like ... but still a solidly nice stout.

Poured into a Pint Defiance tulip. The body is black, with a creamy tan finger head. Aromas consist of dark chocolate and espresso. The flavors are the same. The feel is medium/high bodied with medium carbonation, smooth, and a dry finish.

Pours pitch black with an inch of head on it that goes away fairly quick.
Smells of chocolate and oats.
Taste like it smells. It goes down smooth with an after taste that is sweet chocolate that lasts a few seconds and then is gone. Doesn't stay on the lips and is one delicious stout

A-almost black in color with a fingers worth of tan colored head that sticks to the glass and leaves a nice layer of lace around the top

S-aroma of chocolate, roasted coffee, and a bit of char

T-taste is similar to the smell with a roasted malt backbone, oatmeal, chocolate, and a bitter finish

M-medium to full body, moderate carbonation

Overall a better than expected stout but the amount of hop bitterness makes it not super drinkable

Pours pitch black with a one inch tan head. Good retention and lots of lacing. Smell is powerful dark malts with some coffee and chocolate. Taste is predominately chocolate and roasted malt with faint sweetness. Smooth mouthfeel, with moderate bitterness and a dry finish. Very reminiscent of an imperial stout. Packs quite a kick for an oatmeal stout, but blends it together well with the flavors. Very enjoyable.

Aroma weak chocolate and roasted malt, fades away by the end of the glass
Head large (4.5 cm, aggressive pour), light brown, creamy with rocks, slowly diminishing to three mm ring and partial layer
Lacing excellent – wide bands of curtains, mostly tiny to small bubbles
Body dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor – chocolate predominates initially but at the end some hoppiness comes through; no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate medium, creamy, soft carbonation

Appearance 4, Aroma 3.5, Flavor 4, Palate 4.25, Overall 4

Poured into a Dogfish traditional oversized snifter. Label says 10/9/15.

Pours a fully opaque black color with a 1/2 inch dark tan head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Deep dark roasted malt nose with notes of dark chocolate, some char and a bit of vanilla.

T- Great combo of bitterness coming from both the hops and roasty malt. Very vibrant and flavorful. Bitter char aftertaste is quite nice. Alcohol is well concealed.

M- Sharp from the hops while also being creamy. Medium carbonation and a full body.

O- A very enjoyable hoppy stout that packs a flavorful punch without being too hot.

Pour very dark with a rich tan head that quickly dissipates. Aroma consists of chocolate, grain, citrus & alcohol. The flavor is dominated by yummy dark chocolate, not too sweet, a little salty with a slight grapefruit bitterness.
Update: tried this a 2nd time & I'm lowering my score. The flavor seems lacking, does not deliver all that is implied by the aroma. Also felt thin. Still Very good.

Black and foamy, just how I like it. Chocolate in the aroma, heavy roast and a bit of brightness. Bitterness and alcohol at the back of the tongue. Subdued sweetness and malt balance things out, but this is definitely a bitter beer. Their is a little hoppiness hiding in their somewhere that makes things interesting -- maybe a little lemon, odd as it sounds. Fairly smooth and creamy, but not as much as most oatmeal stout. A great beer, for those of us who like our imperial stouts roasty, chocolaty , and bitter.

22oz bottle. Package date is 1/15/16 (a little over a month ago) Listed ABV is 8.1

Pours a solid black body with a huge frothy tan head. Great retention and lots of thick lacing.

Fairly prominent . Chocolate malt dominates but there is also a very slight hop scent

The combination of chocolate malt and bitter hops gives it an overall coffee effect . Slightly boozy with some sweetness. There really is a lot going on here...

Velvety smooth feel

Overall one of the better oatmeal stouts I have had. And the price makes it a great value ($3.96 at WINCO)

For a heavier oatmeal stout, I thought this was spot on all the way around. Great chewy mouthfeel without being viscous or oily, big roasted malt and bitter chocolate with a bit of hop bitterness at the end to really keep you coming back.

Paired wonderfully with a bbq grilled chicken and bacon sandwich and fried pork cutlets with sausage gravy.

The appearance is a dark black color. You cannot really see through it at all. The head was a one finger head it was a chocolate brown color.

First smell that comes is dark chocolate and roasted malts that really smell like coffee. After those smells I get a mild hop bitterness smell.

First taste is a dark malt flavor that really comes in strong, right after that comes in a strong bitterness from the hops.

I think it has a nice silky mouth feel that roles over the tongue nicely.

Overall a really solid dark stout. I dont have any real complaints out of it. I would give it a 4.25. It is a good American Stout.

Pours black. Thin tan head of foam that did not last. Malty clean scent. Fresh with a light touch that gives the impression of coffee and cream. Hop floral in the background. Earthy. Smooth flavor and a light herbal hop. Lots of cocoa on the palate at first but becomes more discreet as you drink. A distinct bitter finish. Higher abv for the style changes the finish only slightly. Mild flavor of oats. Dries out and the 7.5 percent slows the drink down only a little. The extra hops balance this one perfectly. One of the best beers I have had this year.

Pours jet black with a hint of a dark brown light shining through the corner. Mocha colored head, decent lacing throughout the session.

Acrid roast on the nose. Hints of ethanol and grassy hops.

Mild roast on the palate. Nice chocolate presence emerges at the end. Lingering bitterness. Could use some more sweetness to balance the bitter. Alcohol emerges as the beer warms.

Medium light bodied, yet smooth thanks to the oats. Beer doesn't particularly cling to the mouth. Very pleasant level of carbonation.

Overall this is a good beer, and one I would drink again. I feel like the roast is a little out of balance and could use a little sweetness to bring balance to the force. Definitely worth a taste and I'd definitely try it again.

L: Inky black with a dark bronze/tan colored dense foamy head

S: Enticing aroma of roasted malts and caramel notes

T: Roasty malt sweetness with a nice compliment of bitterness.

F: Thick creamy consistency typical of an oatmeal stout augmented by a good level of carbonation, yielding an excellent overall mouthfeel.

Overall: Very good stout for those who enjoy big imperial stouts. Especially good when you consider the pricepoint for the value.

bottle dated 4/30/15 - 8.1% abv... start off with the fact a 22oz bottle is $3.99 so economically great purchase, roast grain and coffee flavor with a slick silky mouthfeel, bit of burnt embers and subtle chocolate malts, moderate carbonation which I love in an Imperial Stout (labeled Imperial Oatmeal Stout and the fact this years batch broke the 8% plateau I believe it applies)... paired it with a finger of Stranahan's Whiskey and complimented it very nicely, overall great brew and a staple in my fridge
