Originally a collaboration with Thwaites Brewery.

Avatar has a very floral nose while the taste is an elegant balance allowing the subtle flavor of jasmin to prevail while still delivering the IPAs essential hoppiness.

Malts: Pale, Munich, Crystal 45, CaraHell
Hops: Magnum, Glacier, Cascade
Dried jsamin flowers added in the boil.

On tap poured into a sampling glass.

Pours a very light and clear amber color with a small white head. Nose is herbal and earthy, but just a bit too flat for me.

Taste is really unique, it's very herbal and spicy with a good hop bite. The Mouthfeel is light and sharp with a crisp light finish.

22oz bottle dated 10/21/20, served in a pint glass. I enjoy a jasmine tea, but I've never been a big fan of the waxy bitterness of Avatar. Let's give it another try anyway.

The beer is a muddy brass color with a thin tan head. Aroma is surprisingly malt-forward, with that Munich malt hitting my nose first. Flavor begins with a caramel sweetness which is then counteracted by a potent, harsh bitterness. This beer is not elegant and floral, rather, it's oldschool bordering on hard to drink American IPA. Sharp carbonation only intensifies the unpleasantness.

This beer needs a reboot.

I am taking a break from The CANQuest (tm) to run through some Bottles (gasp!). It needed to be done & this will pave the way for a massive return to CANs when I'm done. If you thought that the previous one from Elysian was ancient, take a look at the transcribed Notes for this one!

From the Bottle: "Avatar Jasmine IPA"; "India Pale Ale brewed with Jasmine Flowers"; "East meets West Coast with a unique floral aroma and a smooth dose of hops. Avatar is an excellent beer for pairing with food."; "Brewhouse [-] Elysian operates three brewpubs in Seattle and has won Large Brewpub and Brewmaster of the Year three times at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado."; "Cheers! [undersigned] Dick Cantwell, Head Brewer".

I Pop!ped the cap & started a slow, gentle C-Line pour into the awaiting glass. I was a little surprised when I was not getting much besides wisps in the way of head, but I pressed on. The glass was filled & still naught but wisps, so fair dinkum. Color was Amber to Deep-Amber/Light-Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-quality clarity, so I call that a win. The nose had a very floral quality & in this case, I am referring to flowers, NOT hops. Its mellow nose reminded me of another one that I had recently. In both cases, I was put in mind of hop tea. It is a fabulously mellow drink with low bitterness, if done right. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was much like the nose - very floral (flowery) with a honey-like semi-sweetness and a mellowness that was highly relaxing. It put me in mind of the ex-Old Lady's honey that she harvests as an apiarist & meaderist as well as my next door neighbor's garden. The latter moved in at the end of 2019 & she really has a green thumb! It has been a cool, chilly Spring thus far, but she is out there almost every day, tending to her plants & flowers. By golly, this was a really soothing drink! I felt Sleepytime coming on as I drank it. Finish was semi-dry with only a light bitterness & a lingering flowery-honeylike taste. Mmm. YMMV. This had held up very well. I keep saying - I keep my beer cool, out of the sunlight & try not to be abusive. Waste not, want not.

Such a great flavor! This brew has a light, floral taste, while packing a meaty,IPA punch. A perfect sunny day beer. Love love!

Poured into a frosty glass from a bottle with about an inch of head. Light amber in colour with a bright floral sweet jasmine smell with a hint of hop. Opacity is about 10%, slightly above average with adequate lacing. Jasmine sweet floral taste is overwhelming to me with a bit of carbonation and burn. It’s an interesting beer but unless you like eating flowers, this is a bit of a perennial - something to be had every once and awhile and to an acquired taste.

Tastes like a floral pilsner. Not an IPA. Very distinct taste. Could enjoy every once in a while.
