Contact HazeContact Haze
Notes: The day the world stood still and Elysian brewed a Hazy IPA. Rules were broken to bring you Contact Haze, a tangled chemistry of mild haze, low bitterness, and an explosion of hop aroma. Bursts of bright raspberry, currant, citrus, guava, and passionfruit, with a slight floral note.

Tasting notes:
Not just typical citrus and tropical notes, we use a unique combination of punchy hops. An aroma and flavor explosion of bright raspberry, currant, citrus, guava, and passion fruit. Preserve the haze. Keep cold.

Malts: Pale Ale Malt, Flaked Barley, and Oat Malt.
Hops: El Dorado, Mosaic, Southern Passion, Sabro, Citra, and Sultana.

Thanks to Craus for this one. 12oz can (code JUN21 DA2308 on bottom) poured into 16oz tulip. Poured a somewhat cloudy pale yellow color (not murky at all, like most "hazy" beers) with an inch of white head that good retention and lacing.

Very low grain/malt in the nose. The expected frooty hops were present, just not as frooty as is typical, as well as a bit of pine.

Same on the tongue, a pretty subdued brew.

The body was very light, bordering on Lager-ish, smooth, held good carb, and a medium finish that leaned a bit towards sweet.

Drinkability was OK, no issues with consumption, but i wasn't left wanting another.

Overall, not a "bad" brew, just not a very notable one.

Poured into grip shaped goblet: color is straw, slight haze, head is bright white with fine bubbles, head presents 1 finger thick dissipating to thin top, limited spotty lacing.

Smell is lime, berries, light citrus rind, touch of biscuit malt, toast.

Taste is berries, lime, light tropicals, citrus rind, light biscuit and malt.

Mouthfeel is low/moderate carbonation, moderate sweetness, low bitterness.

Overall a light hazy ipa - allows for noticeable subtle flavors to come through, not overdone by malty sweetness and fullness form the haziness.

Beautiful straw color and nice nose is followed, unfortunately, by a ho hum taste and a flat feel .... Light and refreshing, just not a whole lot of fun

Poured from a 12 oz can into a tulip glass. 1 finger white dense foam, beautiful lemon yellow liquid with some haze, but not opaque. Foam recedes to a small fraction of an inch in a couple minutes and leaves some small to moderate amount of lacing. Smell and taste are both citrus and some tropical fruit, although I cannot differentiate what kinds, plus a very little bit of maltiness. Good mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. The term "well balanced" comes to mind. I would drink this again even though it is not in my top 5 of hazy IPAs.

Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Shaker pint glass, "best by" date 7-9-21.

APPEARANCE: pours a very fine, cloudy straw color with one-finger, white head, excellent retention, moderate lacing on the glass, lighter carbonation.

SMELL: bright and flowery with tropical citrus fruit and bread, there is also a dank earthy note.

TASTE: initially sweet, tropical citrus fruits and then a mild, earthy, bitter hop finish.

PALATE: medium body and lighter carbonation.

OVERALL: this is a decent IPA, it looks great and smells great but it could have used more carbonation, the taste was average and a bit muted, I enjoyed the beer but there are better choices to be found so I would not seek this one out again.

Single 22 ounce can copped from Bonds Tavern in West Orange. Lucid amber hue with minimal frothing. Mellow aroma replete with notes of mango and pear. Similar overall flavor profile. Not bad.

From the can, it pours a slightly hazy golden yellow color with a nice white head that lasts and leaves lacing. In the nose, it is tropical fruits predominating - pineapple and others. In the mouth, an easy drinking light flavor with mild bitterness. Enjoyable, but the first i had was only slightly hazy.

If you're looking for something weird that doesn't suck, is town pound-able and you're kinda over ultra-bitter IPAs this might be your beer. Muted grapefruit, splash of orange, clean finish. I drink mine from the can cause duh.

Can. Slightly hazy flavor. Orange, melon, citrus, passion fruit. Floral and earthy. Kind of light in flavor, but easy drinking. Solid cheaper hazy ipa.

12oz can purchased from the fridge as part of a mix-a-six pack for $2. Not sure when it was canned, but has a best by date of 4/25/21.

Look: Pours a barely hazy golden color with a 1/2 finger white head. This is almost clear beer! For a beer called Contact Haze, it's not very hazy.

Smell: Has some nice aromas going on: lots of tropical and citrus aromas along with some green notes. Up front - papaya and cantaloupe along with grapefruit rind and juiciness. Back end has some floral, pine, and green notes.

Taste: Up front, it tastes very watery and lacking flavor. On the back end, there is a mildly bitter/pithy finish but this beer is very empty up front and in the core. Not much else to say. It's very drinkable, and that's because it kind of tastes like weakly hop flavored carbonated water. For a 6% ABV beer, it's disappointing. I've had 4.8% ABV pale ales that pack a lot more flavor than this beer.

Feel: Carbonation and mouthfeel are nice. This is on the lighter side of body.

Overall: This is not a New England IPA in my opinion. I'm not sure if it's an IPA at all. Tastes more like a pale ale to me. This would be a good hot summer's day or lawnmower beer. It's unfortunately devoid of flavor, so it's hard to give it such a complimentary rating.

Light gold/yellow color with a spongy white head. Taste is sort of complex. Lemon, other citrus notes, passion fruit, peaches, guava. Taste follows along. Very low bitterness, but this is not really in the IPA category. More like a lively pale/golden ale. Light mouthfeel and a semi dry finish. BB date on the can said April 25, 2021. I'd like to try this on draft. Not too bad.

look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

Look: Semi-opaque rich yellow with a billowing pure white head that recedes, leaving good lacing clinging to the glass
Aroma: Overripe tropical fruit - mango, passionfruit, guava, and papaya - tangerine, sweet bready malt, and pineapple juice
Taste: Raw cane sugar and pineapple flesh hit first (wasn’t expecting that one) and joined quickly by strong guava notes. More sweet tropical fruit hold down the middle – follows the nose here – and culminates with some berry notes that I didn’t detect on the nose
Mouthfeel: Full, medium-high carbonation, soft but not too much, and a little sharpness and hop bite on the finish
Overall: I say this is quite solid for a beer that style-wise is something I’m not into. I try not to rate ‘hazies’ subjectively as they usually aren’t my thing 90% of the time but my dad is a fan and shares with me often – hence, me trying this one. A pretty good and not cloying or chewy body and the hop bill is very interesting with ripe tropical fruit and berry notes. Worth a try for sure especially if this style is your thing

Pours a pale yellow color with a thin white head. Looks a lot like pineapple juice and tastes like sour pineapple juice as well. It's a very drinkable beer, but fruity, not in the IPA style (IMO). It might be better on a hot summer day?

Nice beer, but not an IPA. A more crisp and brilliant ale. A joy to drink! It doesn't fit into anything previously noted, just a different IPA. I would put it in a category the of Tasty Hops Rule!

12 ounce can poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

L---Hazy, light yellow color. Nice white head with ok retention and good lacing.

S---Sweet, a little funky. There's both tropical and citrus smells. Lemon, papaya and passion fruit.

T---The advertised red fruit shows up on the finish. Up front is lemon & passionfruit.

F---Medium bodied. Airy & very well carbonated.

O---It's nice to see someone try something new with NEIPAs. Raspberry & currant are new, at least for me, flavors.

On tap at an Omaha pub. The first thing i noticed was that although "Haze" suggests a New England IPA but not was golden clear. The white head was perfect and the aroma slightly hoppy. This beer is is an easy smooth drink.. not very bitter but not sweet.

S" has that IPA but really its a bit weak, headed in the right direction but doesnt quite make it
T: IPA - ish but abit watery

Elysia's version of a Hazy NE IPA. It's not really hazy at all... Mostly clear white gold color. White foam cap is short but present

Aromatics are sweet chalky fruits, orange zest, Tang fruit drink and spicy herbs. Light and smooth feels, very relaxing vibe with minimal complexity, but drinkable.**update: massive Citrus, basically grapefruit flavor. Taste like grapefruit hops.

The aroma is faint. Citrus is noted.

The flavor is thin. Tangerine, peach and apricot are present.

This finishes dry. It a light-bodied ale that is okay.

Out of can dated 28 Nov 2020 in cylindrical glass.
L: A bright 4-6 SRM with a thick fog. A poppy white head forms and retains well. Appears viscous.

S: Guava, passionfruit, papaya, all juiced together in one. Touches of citrus, but more balances, tangy but not sour. Light hops and yard clippings. A final blast of juice.

T: More guava, limited citrus with lemon rind finish. Touches of kiwi or mango. Hops moderately present, bitterness lower.

F: Medium bodied and very soft on the palate. Moderately carbonated as well. Finished bitter and wet.

I am quite impressed with Contact Haze. NEIPAs are one of my favorite styles, and Elysian kocked it out of the park. It has an alluring, illuminated haze that beckons the nose to whiffs tropical fruit smoothie ending in wholesome grassy hops. It is gentle, not a sour citrus blast, but more balanced. It is damper than most IPAs and the perfect amount for a NE. Lovely.

Creepy ass can. Pours very pale yellow, semi-hazey. Smells big time of fruit salad. The guava is a punch in the mouth. Violent fruit character tenderizes and tantalizes the taste buds in a symphonic quarrel. 10/10 would drink again.

Drank it out the can. Nice and easy to drink while remaining packed with flavor. Pine tart as it warms, but mostly a ton of fruit, guavaberry yum-yums, not overly sweet thankfully

it's hard to knock this one; it's super easy to knock-back
