Notes: The day the world stood still and Elysian brewed a Hazy IPA. Rules were broken to bring you Contact Haze, a tangled chemistry of mild haze, low bitterness, and an explosion of hop aroma. Bursts of bright raspberry, currant, citrus, guava, and passionfruit, with a slight floral note.

Tasting notes:
Not just typical citrus and tropical notes, we use a unique combination of punchy hops. An aroma and flavor explosion of bright raspberry, currant, citrus, guava, and passion fruit. Preserve the haze. Keep cold.

Malts: Pale Ale Malt, Flaked Barley, and Oat Malt.
Hops: El Dorado, Mosaic, Southern Passion, Sabro, Citra, and Sultana.

Brief first impression from a can nabbed as part of a sixer from a Walmart in Chalmette, Louisiana:

Pours like a pineapple fanta, or maybe a well hydrated urine sample. Nice and sharp start, but has that fantastic finish that draws me in for more. Finding this beer is a lot like the Where's Waldo of alcoholism. I went through 3 different Safeways to find this beer. Then, I found it at Fred Meyer. You can never find ot when you're actively looking for it.

16 oz can from Brewers Haven. Light haze on the pour, fluffy head fades. Fruity aroma, heavy on the tropical. Taste also is tropical, with a heavy dryness. Sweet and not that bitter

I wanted to hop in the pint glass and swim around a bit in this delicious IPA. One of the best beers that I have had. Great job Elysian! Keep up the good brewing!!

Pours a nice, hazy - as in “old school IPA” hazy, not “NE-style IPA” hazy - yellow color with a sudsy white head. The nose is dank citrus notes and some berry aromas.

In other words, the typical Citra/Mosaic hopped old school IPA, with oranges, pineapple, guava, and berry flavors most prominent on the taste, and a really nice old school IPA bitterness.

The only shortcoming is the mouthfeel, which is a bit watery - which actually does fit the NE-style IPA, but every single thing other than that component is old school IPA, so I rated it as such.

I’m very conflicted. But I’d drink this beer again (and will, since I have a 6er to finish).

Aroma is orange/citrus and mild sweetness. The flavor is orange/mild candy, tropical fruit, biscuit/earthy malts and a citrus rind/hoppy/slightly sweet finish.

Pours a hazy gold with a thumb+ of pearl colored head. Pretty good head retention & lacing

S: Citrus & tropical fruits

T: Follows the nose, sweet orange, a little grapefruit & papaya up front. Orange and even a lilttle pineapple & coconut as this warms, bready dryness on the edges. Finishes with orange, a little sour orange, pineapple & bready dryness

MF: Medium body, lively carbonation, good balance

Solid take on the style, not mind blowing but worthy of purchase

12oz can, best by 16Apr20. Sickly yellow and quite cloudy. Sweet fruit punch aroma with pineapple, guava, may be even passionfruit. Flavor is tropical hop with very low bitterness, and an edge of citrus peel.

This is a solid NE IPA, but it's hard for me to get excited about this one since they've been done so much better at this point.

Six pack of cans picked up at QFC in Bothell, Washington.
BBD is 21MAR20. Served in a pint glass.

Malt/Hop breakdown~

Pale Ale Malt, Flaked Barley, Oat Malt
El Dorado, Mosaic, Southern Passion, Sabro, Citra, Sultana

Look- Hazy golden straw color. A decent off-white head that recedes fairly quickly to a thin cap of foam, modest lacing. moderate carbonation streams visible.

Smell- Stone fruit (peach/nectarine, apricot, a hint of cherry), citrus (orange/tangerine, grapefruit and lemon/lime), tropical fruit (pineapple, mango, guava and passionfruit), melon and some sweet berries, light onion and pepper, some grainy malt, pine and grassy/floral notes.

Taste- A bowl of fresh fruit, aromas from the hops translate nicely in to the flavor with minimal residual bitterness.

Feel- Medium bodied with a nice, somewhat crisp, lightly sweet finish. Medium carbonation on the tongue.

O- This is a really solid new offering from Elysian, seriously juicy. A definite repurchase and really reasonably priced. If you like hazebombs, it's a try it if you find it.
