LOOK: Pours an unfiltered hazy orange. White head forms and has good staying power. Expert lace.
SMELL: Very fragrant tropical fruit notes of mango, kumquat, and papaya. There is a sugary, barleywinesque note of alcohol and candy like malt.
TASTE: More citrus forward in the taste, grapefruit and orange skin being major players. Has some earth, wood and pine notes but is not overly bitter. The flavor is quite juicy. Malt flavor is bready, with a suggestion of buttery toffee and caramel. There is just a slight alcohol presence in the finish. Well balanced by a small dry hop bite.
FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated. This is good tasting ale. It has a juicy and yet creamy smooth texture, and it drinks very easily.
OVERALL: Certainly well made IPA with some English ale influence. Has enough hops to keep you sidetracked, but the malts, yeast and estery notes add some complexity here. I enjoyed sampling this one, and Elysian Brewing do several variations of IPA and Pumpkin ales. A more than capable beer from a more than capable brewery.
