Poured a dark opaque chocolate in a Stone RIS glass with a 2F head.

Great aroma: very strong espresso- strong roasted coffee.

MF: creamy, fuller body- indicative of a milk stout.

Taste: transitions well from the aroma. The Stumptown coffee comes through, very espresso-like, roasted coffee.

Moderately bitter finish.

My first beer from the brewery. Excellent debut.

Pour black but clear as I catch and orange hue at the edge of the glass. Chocolate head of foam that lasts well. Slight clinging. Nose is roasty. Lots of bold coffee and out of the fridge the lactose is like a stiff taffy sweetness. Brown sugar or light caramel. Almost no hops except for a cool minty breath that suggests tree bark. Faint chocolate and tootsie rolls.

taste is silky and lots of coffee. Plenty of roasty malt but I am not tasting any sweetness cream. Hops give a lasting bitter but no herbal. Low fruitiness. This beer is medium dry and moderately roasty. I am not tasting anything milky or creamy though until the swallow. Then it simply lays out a bit. A very light creamy flavor. It finishes the beer softly and medium dry. Medium full, moderate carbonation. Pkgd 2/1/17 these hops are fresh enough to show me pepper at the very end.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This very nice milk stout pours
a light blackish brown with cola colored highlights and a very nice
head of off white foam that settles to a thick ring, thin pool, and
features some nice light lacing. Nose of coffee, cream, and mild
dark chocolate. Flavors of this fine brew exceed the nose with
smooth cream and mild smooth coffee flavors dipped in dark
chocolate and roasted malts with a very subtle herbal hop note
on the rear. Nice mouth feel; medium body, medium carbonation,
and a subtly dry finish that is lightly sweet.

A very nicely balanced milk stout that is highly enjoyable.
Would love to have this one on tap, but just glad to be getting
more Elysian beers here in Cincinnati. Very nice!

Cheers

On tap in Greenville SC in a Gouden Carolus glass.

Poured dark red-brown, nearly black, with a weak beige head that left spots of lacing.

S: The moderately strong aroma features medium roasted coffee; a particularly nice coffee aroma.

Flavor: the excellent smell carries over to the coffee dominated flavor. Some complexity here with hints of dark dried fruits, dark chocolate and toffee. Faint smoke with coffee in the lingering aftertaste.

M: Medium-full bodied with light-medium carbonation.

Overall: recommended.

I enjoy dark stout beers. I especially variations on a stout like coffee and milk stouts. First pour of this beer was almost completely flat, very little carbonation. Not even enough bubbles to cover the top of the mug. It does have a large bouquet of smell. I think that is a result of the little carbonation. It does however taste of bitter espresso. I don't taste the bitterness of hops. The milk sweetness I believe tones down the espresso bitterness that would be present if this were a straight coffee stout. I am enjoying this beer. It pour smooths and goes down smooth.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Dark, dark brown pour.. nearly black with some light getting through around the edges. Thin brown head... falls quickly. Modest lacing.

S: Sweet sugars and coffee. Roast and cocoa.

T/F: Lots of sweet lactose... roasted malts give it a little bitterness. Great coffee flavor... some cocoa and chicory. Medium to light in body. Good carbonation. Finish is sticky and semi-sweet.

O: A pleasing coffee milk stout. Easy drinking... and pretty much what you'd expect. The flavors work well together and it's everything advertised.
