5/3/19...clear orange tinted gold with scarcely any foam. Citrus blood orange nose, very fruity. Pulpy taste, totally blood orange based. Mellow. Rind based bitter. Watery mouthfeel. Just ok.

Goodness gracious look there is a bottled on date. The pour is a light orange type of color. On the the aroma is blood orange & some slight hops Now for the best part, the taste is heavy on the blood orange, the beer is sort of one dimensional & there is some bitterness on the finish, but it's nothing overwhelming. The final verdict, it's not the best blood orange beer that I've had but it's worth a try if you can get this beer in your area. Cheers! B

Poured from bottle dated 5/2018, so it's 11 months old.

Look - rich golden body, fizzy airy head dies quickly

Smell - wonderful ! but not overpowering -orange-on-malts n hops in a way that works

Taste - follows nose directly and again the orange was not overpowering the great beer/malt/hop flavor

Feel - enjoyable medium to lite mid body (having one as a brunch brew works!), killer

Overall - as good or better than I hoped, with the great labels Elysian has! Recommended even if InBev owns it.

From the bottle, it pours a orangey hazy amber with a modest head with chunks of yeast floating in it. Lacing. Scent of fruit in the nose. The mouth gets a blood orange bite in the malt, providing an interesting flavor element.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. It has an interesting appearance, cloudy and... apricot in color (orange-tan). Not much of a head. This is far from a typical pale ale. There is not much hop character. It's smooth and doesn't have any bitter aftertaste. It actually reminds me more of grapefruit than blood orange, since it's more sour than sweet. Not much roasted barley. Overall, it's unique and decent, but I don't love it. It's not really a pale ale to me.

It is a pale ale, but thanks to the blood and orange juice (or whatever is in there), it tastes less hoppy than the usual pale ale. Still not a guzzler by any means, but that's OK. Consistent taste right to the end. The blood and orange is fairly subtle. Worth a second test, but not a must have. 2015/05/21

The orange character is pronounced up front but quickly fades behind a pithy bitterness and a touch of malt sweetness and becomes a fruity citrus with the swallow. Simple with hints of cherry and banana and just a touch of caramel malt sweetness. Woody, earthy, and herbal hops lend a note of bitterness that’s not overwhelming. Light on carbonation and body, and a delicate flavor profile overall.

July 4th, 2015 - Elysian's labels are rolling up some hype for a beer that's rather tame. Enjoyed at a family Fourth of July celebration, this is a lighter brew with a light sniff of orange in the aroma and the flavor. It's simple, but refreshing, which makes it a fine match for a sultry evening watching fire explode in the sky.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This brew pours a medium dark and murky
peach tinged amber cloudy wheat color with chunky sediment and a decent head
of white foam that subsides to a frothy ring, thin light layer, and shows some
decent sudsy lacing. Nose of orange zest and subtle sweet malts with piney hop
notes. Flavors follow orange pith and zest around a touch of grapefruit (the yellow
variety) with some pine and herbal hop notes amid mildly sweet wheat and grain
notes. Decent mouth feel; medium body, medium light carbonation, and a bitter
orange pith and grapefruit zest and pith heavy finish.

I generally like Elysian brews, this one misses the mark but would
do the trick on a hot day.

Nasty! Had a lot of floating debris in it. A strong hop flavor no blood orange at all. A hard swallow. Will never buy this again. I feel the same way about apa's as I do ipa's.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 05/09/18. Sampled on August 31, 2018.

Murky sediment filled orange-amber pour with a long lasting white foamy head. I like a little sediment but I probably could have used a fork in it.

I get the orange fruitiness on the nose riught away with a more subtle white bread and grainy character. Smells clean.

Medium, chewy body.

The orange sweetness plays up in the taste with a mild hop finish that does not linger long.

Hitting a soft spot in each and every beer drinker, the Elysian team brings a recipe for the all American pale ale to the table along with a bold orange infusion to take those citrusy hops where they've never gone before. This beer is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

With even an orange, amber, golden glow, Superfuzz (Blood Orange) pours hazy and with a rich and frothy cap. Citrus aromas abound with the scent of candied oranges, honey, light toast and nuttiness. Hints of herbal hops and a soft sprucy component leads into the initial sip of caramel, nuttiness and honey in a graham cracker kind of way.

As the sweetness pulls away from the focus, the hops garner flavor to bring the middle palate to within a slight hop forward balance. Hops bring its own set of complexities that remain citrusy with pink grapefruit, orange peel and a pep of lime before the blood orange additions overtake the session. Trailing into a firm bitterness, the late palate brings a taste of fresh cut grass, pine and fruit rinds to the beer's final frame.

Medium bodied and drying late in the taste, the beer favors a high rate of drinkability over even the copious amounts of added citrus for a session that's clean, crisp and highly refreshing. Shying away from the tendency to become citronella, the beer's finish is minty cool with ethanol while trailing into a medium length afterglow of candied citrus once more.

Nice hazy yellow-tan color with some nice fluffy head and lingering lacing. Smells of citrus and floral hops. Tastes of nice citrus rind hops - mainly orange, lemon and grapefruit - along with some milder floral hops, grain, malt and caramel. Smooth mild mouthfeel, nice bitter notes in the aftertaste, decent carbonation.

Hazy orange body, whitish head, with a quiet but slightly acidic nose. The taste is slightly tart, over a strong malt core that opens as a cracker note but becomes a coarsely ground wheat bread through the middle. The finish is straight bitter bite. Missing the broader array of hop notes I expect, and the strange emphasis on grain flavors leave my kinda cold on this one.

Taste: Oranges and grapefruit lead. Some malt backing. Little bit of spicy hops. Flavorful. Not too sweet.

Mouthfeel: Sessionable. An easy drinker at 6+ ABV.

Overall: I like a good blood orange ale, and this is a nice one. Good stuff. Nice balance of hops, orange and malt.

L: Hazed golden brown pour with 1.5 fingers of fluffy white head. Nice ring of lacing.

S: Blood orange and citrus. Grainy malts but mostly citrus hops.

T/F: Follows the nose. Light toasted grain backbone. Citrus/grapefruit hops and blood orange juice. Modest bitterness... well balanced and drinkable. Relatively light bodied.

O: A decent blood orange pale. Solid flavor... nothing spectacular but a very drinkable beer.

Pours a cloudy apricot color with a thin white cap that recedes quickly leaving decent lacing. The aroma is orange citrus and not much else. The flavor again is orange with some nice bitterness at the end. Feel is wonderfully crisp. Overall not a bad beer, but not one I'd look for again.

I love this!!! effervescent. “Streaming, gleaming, flaxen, waxen.” Great foamy head. Nice flavorful but not too intense. Still delicious. Blood orange peel purée?

Nice, light summer beer. I like beers a bit hoppier, so I'd suggest dry hopping with amaillo or citra to pick up the flavor a bit. This would be an excellent choice for those who want something light. I realize that pale ales should not have a hop taste, but this pale ale is good, but lacking something to make it special.

Clear straw color that has a white head that disipates quickly. Aroma is a mild citrus. Taste is also a moderate citrus that is somewhat thirst quenching.

Maybe I'm having this too late in the season--it's October 20th--but this beer isn't doing it for me. Better than the standard ales and macro brews. Strong orange bitterness, none of its sweetness. Kinda harsh without any balance.

Superfuzz Blood Orange Pale Ale brewed by Elysian Brewing Company, with an ABV of 6.40% This American Pale Ale pours out a nice cloudy amber color with a nice white head. There is a decent amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with hop bitterness, earthy grains and malts. You also pick up a nice amount of citrus tart sweetness from the orange. There is a lot going on in Superfuzz Blood Orange Pale Ale. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors. You first pick up on a nice mild hop bitterness with some sweet citrus flavors. You also pick up on some nice earthy grains and malts in the taste of this American Pale Ale. The body is a nice medium. There is nothing overpowering about Superfuzz Blood Orange Pale Ale it has a super nice balance to it. It is really hard to pick up on the 6.40% ABV in this brew, it is just that smooth. The mouth feel of this brew is Bold, Smooth, Hoppy, Citrus and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving this brew a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Elysian Brewing Company, did a real nice job with this brew.

A - Very cloudy sediment-rich pour. Not much head to speak of.
S - Orange peel of course, dry hoppy smell. Notes of pine and malt.
T - Light tropical/citrus hints. Quite bitter at the outset, mellows out as it warms.
M - Very light bodied, more so than I prefer for an APA. Clean finish and nice carbonation balance though.
O - This seemed like a run-of-the-mill blood orange APA (not that I've had any outstanding ones). I think the "blood orange" variant (for any brewer) is overplayed anyway, so this is just a "good" APA to drink on any occasion.
