This rotational "American ale" is Boundary Bay's lightest offering. Though minimalist by design, 3B still delivers sharp bittering with an integrated yeast tang. Perhaps in the absence of malt body this isn't too surprising. But the aroma still offered a fresh mash tun air and the taste had a dry graininess, especially in the finish which was dry to a fault. The body was chicken-yellow and trailed splotchy lace.

3B also goes by the name "Lightner" in reference to the general manager's father's name. Very satisfying as a midday beer. Delivers much more than you'd expect.

First, some history. 3B takes it name from two aspect of Bellingham beer and bar history. Bellingham Bay Brewing was the local brewery before prohibition and made the standard brews of it's era, so this beer is a nod to that. Also there was a long-loved rock club in town named The 3-B. The 3B was notorious for the amount of beer consumed and the amount of beer Thrown, yup they would buy cans of cheap beer, shake 'em up and spray the bands, people standing nearby and pretty much everyone. So Boundary Bay brews this light, summer ale in memory of those that went before.

Honestly, this pretty much just an average light blonde ale. Slightly cloudy yellow with a thin white head. A neutral but slightly grainy aroma and taste. A thin, smooth and easy body. A beer that is very drinkable, at 3.7% you can drink these all night while watching music in BBs beer garden. Thankfully this beer is for drinking, not throwing. If you're at the brewery, it won't kill ya to try one, but BB has so many other great brews that it doesn't make sense to take up space where other beers can go.
