With a deep red hue, Irish Red is a smooth and easy-drinking seasonal. Irish Red is a lighter-bodied ale with low hop bitterness and a clean, malty, toffee-like finish. Brewed annually in the spirit of the Bellingham Community & the Bellingham St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Our first Boundary Bay beer. Pours a rich red amber, light head, pleasant bready head. Malt forward, notes of toffee, malt and some herbal background. This reminds us of Smithwicks of Ireland. A good, sessionable beer

Hazy orange amber and a thin tan head with no retention. Floral and muddy earth aroma. Roasted toffee and caramel sweetness with a sweet linger and a slightly astringent aftertaste. Crisp and smooth feel with some grittiness at the bottom.

Not a good looker but a good malt profile makes an okay drinker for St. Paddy’s Day though it degraded a lot when the feel became gritty at the bottom and melded into a boring sweetness.

Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a medium red-orange amber. Nice fine two-finger off-white head with good retention and lacing. Looks good. Aroma of bready malt and light hops. Taste follows with toasted bready malt and light hops. An unusual faint sweetness, almost like fruit juice in the finish. Nice medium body for a low ABV ale. This is a very pleasant, tasty and well made ale.

I've had this both on hand pump and regular tap the last couple of days, this is a combined review. Served in straight pint glass. Poured a slightly hazy red color, with over 1/4 inch of off-white head that had low retention and lacing.

The aroma was mostly sweet, with some nice grainy malt in the background, and had a bit of a hop tang as well. On the tongue the story was similar, sweet malts at first, nice grain next and a noticeable hop tang on the finish. Perhaps a bit more hops than I would like to see in the style.

The body was good, smooth and even, with a mostly clean finish, although the hops did linger for a few moments. Drinkability was very good, the beer goes down smoothly and easily, and at the low ABV you can drink these tasty treats all day. Overall, a very nice brew that I hope gets put into BB's yearly seasonal release rotation. It is also available in 22oz bottles in the Puget Sound region, so you can take some home. Worth trying if you see it.
