Deep brown pour with some amber hues tons of white-brown foam that settles into a thin ring. A touch of chocolate mixed in with a fair amount of woodiness in the nose. Very crisp and clean malt flavor with hints of cola and cherry.

Poured cold from bottle to glass Weiss stein

L) Shoe polish brown, unfiltered, rising puffy white head due to high carbonation

S) Dates, raisons, bananas - stewed cooked fruit, baked sour dough bread. Delicious.

T) Classic fruity Weiss with mild burnt caramel, cocoa, mild spice

F) Surprisingly light, perhaps due to high carbonation. Smooth, medium body, sticky

O) Very good example of dunkel Weiss style. Affordable too!

A delicious Dunkelweizen, had this on a hot afternoon at the World Expo at EPCOT. Poured by a pretty German girl from Munich, too (her favorite is Augustiner)! Totally worth the price tag for the experience alone.

Refreshing and crisp, wheaty with a nice bready yeast character. A hint of lemon, banana and hefe spice. Recommended.

This is an OK dunkel, a style that I generally like fairly well (that is, it's not my favorite style but is a good fallback). The taste profile of this one is fairly simple but a bit muddled and not clean. It's roastiness almost has a charred quality. The carbonation is good though the body is slightly on the thin side. All in all, not bad but not my favorite of this style.

Pours nearly perfect. Dark, but when held to light it creeps through. The creamy tan head is what dreams are made of. Weiss beer not big n smells other than sweet and malt with Dunkel. I bet the smell of this on the floor of a real German beer hall is quite the experience. Love the Weiss but the Dunkel roasted malt jus ups it all, especially taste and finish. Could alternate Weiss and Dunkel on a summer day all day long.

Poured into a half liter weizenbeer glass. Kicked up a huge head, probably 2/3rds of the glass. It took about 10 minutes to pour the entire beer into the glass. The color was a hazy dark brown, almost opaque, kind of looked like a cola. The aroma was pretty light, but I did get some slight touches of toffee, sweet malt, cloves and banana. The taste wasn't much bigger than the aroma, rather disappointing. The flavor was mostly sweet malt, with just a touch of banana and caramel. The mouthfeel was rather thin, but pretty creamy. I was rather disappointed in this beer, expected a lot more flavor, probably won't be buying this one again.

Poured a hazy brown. Smells malty and fruity, like a dark witbier (appropriately). Tastes malty with a hint of caramel. Slightly sweet with faint notes of toasted malts, similar to a nut-brown ale. Very drinkable dunkel!

Would I buy it again? Probably

look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

Looks : Out of the bottle this pours a greyish - amber color, but when it settles in the glass it's more of a muddy chocolate hue. Held up to the light the body looks more like cranberry juice, sitting at about 70% opacity. The head is enormous, I'm used to these by now, I used to get so excited but they are still awesome. About 10% body, 90% head at first, then it decreases to about a 10% or 1 finger head. There is no lacing left behind.

Smells : Dried cranberry, currant, fig, raisin, with roasted malts, slight melon rind. Yeast as well, but darkened bread permeates that smell. A nice aroma, about medium strength in the bouquet department.

Tastes : A large body of roasted malts, with slightly charred and roasted dark fruits - namely plums and figs on a stick over an open fire; Some yeasty and wheaty notes, and still more plum and fig in a big way. It ends slightly kilned and with dried malt wort.

Feels : Quite a bit like a lager. It's rather light bodied, not very creamy, and has spatial yet furious carbonation throughout the shallow body. An interesting thing happens as the beer begins to soak into the walls of the mouth, and it takes on a dried feel, much like chewing a dried apricot or drinking a strong wine.

Overall : This was okay. It wasn't the homerun I was expecting, but it's not bad for a Dunkel. I'd have it again, I just don't know how excited I am to go out and buy more. Try it if you haven't, this one was only three dollars.

Almost opaque, dark brown color with a copper hue and some powerful activity. Creamy foamy thick light brown 3 finger head lasting around 15 minutes, creating a foam island eatable with a spoon, and some good legs.

Aromas and flavors of toffee, grains, fruits, corn, herbal spices. Rich sweet fruity flavors with overtones of caramel and molasses, but unfortunately quite metallic. Pleasantly earthy and toasty without the bitterness.

Creamy light body with prickly carbonation. Well intensified but short finish ending with a slightly sweet toffee and spicy feel on the tongue.

Overall : Good craft; The flavors are a little faint and the body surprisingly thin compared to the head, still the taste is nice, refreshing, and well intensified.

Pours a bubbly dark brown with a foamy tan head. It looks a lot like root beer.
The aroma is loaded with toffee, bread and ripe banana.
A tasty brew. Lots of bread and toffee with a little banana and spice. Nice slightly bitter and refreshing finish.
Mouthfeel is smooth and bubbly.
This is a very easy drinking beer that goes nicely with food.

Nice beer... prior to beginning drinking micro/craft beer I would have said this was great, now with the abundance of amazing local ales most foreign beers have lost their cachet.

Both thin in mouthfeel and I got only coffee malty aromas and taste rather than fruity/ester weissen. Decent beer but not particularly distinguished or memorable.

It has dark brown and hazy colour. It smells bready and roasty malt. Its taste is average comparing with other dunkels. At the end you can feel the bitterness. However, I tasted Erdinger Picantus yesterday.Personally i think that Picantus is better than this dunkel. If you have a chance, you should taste Picantus.

Had this in Shanghai at the intercontinental.

A huge fluffy light tan head sits atop a dark brown brew. Smells of banana, citrus, coriander and a bit of pine. The taste does not live up to the promise of the smell. A dull intro is followed up by malts mixed with faint bananas and a bit of spice. Mouth-feel is smooth and light-bodied. Carbonation is fairly active.

Appearance - Dark in colouration like a dark ale or even porter like. Dense dirty tobacco foam head which has very good retention.

Smell - Doughy bready aroma and plenty of banana with a good malty wheat profile.

Taste - Basically identical to the aroma profile. It cannot be denied this is an above average Dunkel but I personally feel the banana was a little subdued in the flavour and much more doughy flavour was coming through as a result. It was sweet but not quite what i would expect or hope for in the style.

MF - Creamy and full with a nice long lived linger that is mild but pleasing.

Overall - Pretty good, above average even but it is not the best you will come across and not as balanced in the flavour as I would hope for.

Very nice Dunkel! This has a surprising amount of carbonation, that helps push out the toasty malt flavours. It's not overly complex or layered, just tasty. Once you get past the yeast/corn nose and let this sit in your mouth, you can appreciate the overall balance of the Erdinger Dunkel.

Pours two fingers of light tan head on a dark brown body.
The aroma is caramel and damp grains.
The taste has lots of caramel sweetness, though nicely balanced by a light bitterness.
The texture is smooth with a light fizz.
It smells great and tastes nice.

Bottle poured into Dixie cup

A: Nice brackish brown color fair head on the beer

S: almost nothing on the nose except some bread and corn grain smell almost like smelling an old AAL

T: bready with an almost sour old beer taste to much in the way of taste reminds a lot of a Macro beer Budweiser

M: surprising amount of carbonation lays sour on the tongue on the finish

O: unless this was an old beer this was a horrible beer and I poured half of it out

In the aroma is rich bread, bread crust, molasses, and a touch of raisin. The body is nearly opaque and very dark brown with mahogany highlights. The head is a creamy khaki. The flavor at first includes dark, berry-like roasted malt along with a slightly sour, bread crust-like quality. The fruitiness lightens over time and becomes more sweet and tart alongside the roasted malt. The malt lingers and leaves a grainy, bread-like aftertaste. It's quite carbonated and frothy but crisp and medium-light in body.

Quite tasty and refreshing. It's very crisp and highly carbonated, which sharpens the otherwise smooth and rich maltiness. It's definitely more dunkel than weissbier, but style aside, it's still really delicious.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2014. Acquired a while back from a supermarket.

Poured into an Erdinger weissbier glass (yes!). Bottle conditioned. A deep reddish-brown hue with plenty of fine sediment and intense carbonation; appears opaque in the glass. Produces a huge head of creamy light-brown foam that lasts for quite a while before settling as a patchy surface layer. Aroma of toasted grain with hints of caramel malt, wheat, earthiness, fruity yeast esters and subtle stewed leaves. OKish but lacking in character.

Tastes of toasted caramel malt with a dry finish. Notes of caramel, wheat, mild grain, earthiness, vague fruity yeast esters and stewed leaves. Faintly sweet, followed by a mild, yeasty character upon swallowing. No bitterness to speak of. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with prickly carbonation and a somewhat insubstantial body for the style. Lightly astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of dry yeast, caramel and faint wheat.

Drinkable but nothing special - about par for Erdinger. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are decidedly lacklustre. Caramel and light wheat notes with some yeastiness - muddled and indistinct. So-so body. Goes down without complaint but a pretty forgettable dunkel - no need to hunt it down.

Very nice color with a thick light brown head

Very mild smell of grain

The taste is roasted caramel malt and is very mild, not too sweet at all.

The mouth-feel is very pleasant with medium carbonation

Overall this is a great mild beer for someone not looking to adventure outside the box. This beer is sweet with not a lot of carbonation. Don't let its dark haziness fool you into thinking this will be too rich. This is a very easy beer to drink and it gets extra points because of its cheap price.
