500 ml bottle. Pale yellow with a huge head. Pour this beer slowly, or you'll be left with a glass of foam. Aroma is spicy and malty. The flavor is quite odd. There is a bitting spiciness up front combined with a heavy carbonation so that you almost have to wait until you swallow to taste the flavor of the beer. A little bit of toasted malt flavor - very strange in a hefe. Becomes acidic. Carbonation is too heavy. The best before date is 01-2006, so I don't think the problem is there. I just think this beer isn't very good.

11.2oz bottle poured into a weizen glass, best of 1-2008 on it.

A: Pours a sort of cloudy light orange with a two inch rocky sort of fake looking head that is a little clearer than I would have liked to see better head retention and lacing.

S: Smells a bit too much like corn for me and sort of off putting there is only the smallest hint of clove and herbal spice and a bit strange hit of hot and dusty yeast, really not that nice to smell.

T/MF: Little bit of creamy orange and hot herbalness, the mouthfeel is a fake sort of creamy, like there are bubbles and stuff there but they do not seem to be doing anything natural, really more bitter and drying than anything sort of strange.

D: I don't know man, I was sort of bothered by this one it really is sort of out of whack and not that good, darn this beer.

50cl bottle (04-2014) into a weizen. Hazy pale golden color, three finger head that settled to one finger pretty quickly leaving some lacing. Typically beautiful hefeweizen. Faint wheaty smell with some banana. Taste has some yeast, banana and a note of spice. Thin body, medium carbonation and a bit watery mouthfeel.

Decided to drink this one today after having a belgian tripel, leaving this one tasting quite bland and watery, my bad. I've had this one before on a hot summer day's boat cruise on the river Mosel, where it tasted wonderful. It's not bad, but not the best hefeweizen I've had. Very drinkable and good with bratwurst.

Simply delicious, how is this just an "ok"? Had this one right from the bottle and it was fantastic. Usually I don't get a lot of aroma drinking from the bottle, but this one had that clear hefe smell. Wheat, spice, banana, and some orange zest notes. Tastes follows with banana and spice taking the lead with orange bread underneath. I'd gladly have this hefe anytime.

G: Erdinger Weizen Glass

A: Green cloudy bosy with a thick 2 inch head that had good retention. Leaves thick lacing.

S: Sweet malts, banana and other citrus fruits, hops & yeast

T: Faint malts, stronger banada and yeast/wheat taste. Flavours could be stronger

M: Medium-light body, medium carbonation. Dry malty/fruit finish

D: Good beer, nothing to special about it though.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a nice golden color with good carbonation. Nose is actually quite nice. Hints of wheat and citrus. The taste is not the best. It surprisingly didn't follow the nose, and almost seems a bit like cough syrup. Not my favorite of this style at all. Feel is OK.

A: [4.00] Beer pours out with 2 full fingers of head. Really tight white bubbles. The beer itself is a hazy straw color. The bottle lists the ABV (5.3%) and there is a best by of (01/01/2017).

S: [3.25] Weak nose of crackers and corn. (None of the funk-tified yeast I expect in this variety.)

T: [3.25] Similar to the nose - very lackluster. Hints of corn and slight crackey malts. Just not a wide range of flavor here. (None of the funk-tified yeast I expect in this variety.)

M: [3.75] The body is thicker than medium. It actually has a decent heft to it.

O: [3.25] Blindfolded this tastes like a less sweet (slightly more complex) Bud. The body is better but over all I am totally underwhelmed by this beer. Just nothing sticks out or is noteworthy.

Erdinger Weisse: In a classic half liter brown bottle. Fantastic looking beer, with a thick white head, with great Belgian lace, and a cloudy orange/yellow. Very pronounced aroma of yeast and bananas. Highly carbonated, with assertive tastes of yeast, and dryish/clean aftertaste. Very easy to drink and very refreshing, but the yeast/banana tastes of the yeasts were a little overwhelming.

A- Poured into my tucher weizen glass in traditional weissbier fashion. Produces a slightly dull copper amber gold, not as dark as schneider but not very light either.4 Finger solid standard ice creamy looking weissbier head. Looks good. Lots of brussels lacing. Head retention is good throughout

S- some faint hints of vanilla, fresh banana, perhaps wet dough, not really like fresh bread which is apparent in some hefes. Cant say i get cloves either

T- Taste is a little creamy for me, fresh banana is apparent, but still no cloves in either taste or smell as i swirl the beer to release aroma. A little sticky/greasy on the finish, but not watery which is a good thing.Overall a bit bland

M- Refreshing sublte yet lively carbonation, doesnt sting the tongue.

D- Fine but there are much better hefe's out there with more character and also more refreshing. The greasy sticky finish let it down taking away from any refreshing qualities

Appearance: The body is a somewhat cloudy blonde colour with ample carbonation. Two fingers of head were produced, but it didn't manage to lace or retain very well.

Smell: A lot of grain smell upfront with a banana backing and maybe the barest hint of cloves. Warming really helped it out as the banana came forward a bit more.

Taste: Starts with the banana sweetness with a bit of malt at which point dry wheat takes to the field, as the to wage war over a small hint of cloves. It is an ending which manages to come across as decent.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation in the body is very well done and helps out the entire beer. The aftertaste is also nice and balanced but I wouldn't call it epic. Longer lasting head and removing the odd touch of dryness would be nice.

Drinkability: Medium bodied, not exactly for summer drinking but not quite flavourful enough for the winter. It's a bit dryer then I would like it to be, and the carbonation is so powerful, it leave me a little gassy.

Final Thoughts: An above average Hefe, that is for sure. I dunno, it just seems like the banana and the clouding just isn't there. It comes across as a bit too pilsner like. It's still good though, but sadly Erdinger just can't seem to compare to Weihenstephaner. Give it a shot though.
