ERDINGER Pikantus is already a legend during the “strong beer season”. But with its complex symphony of aromas, it also stimulates the taste buds – making it a perfect aperitif.

With an ABV of 7.3% and an original wort of 16.7°P, this bock beer is ERDINGER Weissbräu’s strongest contender.

For a true Bavarian aperitif, divide a bottle of ERDINGER Pikantus between two connoisseur glasses – with its dark color and smooth creamy head, Pikantus is already a feast for the eyes. The flavor that develops on the palate is well-rounded and malty with a hint of nutmeg and fine nougat. The sparkling nature of ERDINGER Pikantus harmonizes perfectly with its slightly sweet character, as well as its soft and delicate finish.

Purchased at Parkhill Cellars in North Melbourne in November 2025 and drunk a couple of weeks later.

L: Ruby brown in the glass with a creamy, dirty-white head. A wall of small bubbles flows up the side of the glass.

S: The nose is brown sugar, glace cherries, plum, dark berries and a touch of booze.

T: The taste continues to bring dark plums to mind, with the wheat beer phenolics bringing a bubblegum and clovey note. There's dark grape juice at the finish, which lingers long and sweet. Bitterness is nonexistent, and the 7.3% ABV is well hidden.

M: The body is smooth and full, as expected given the wheat beer DNA. Carbonation is very low. All is in harmony with the taste profile.

O: A refreshing but dangerous beer that would go down very quickly on a hot day. I would have another one and wonder why I fell asleep half an hour later!

Cheers!

(review from October 2022) Solid bock with good balance, nice palate heft and a big malty, bready, slightly sweetish/caramelly, mouthcoating aftertaste. Very quaffable and smooth for a 7.3%er.

500ml bottle at my home bar in the Alps. Pours a dark brown tone with a cosiderable head of a white/tan tone. The aroma precedes the taste, a very malty feeling quite light on hops making it rather simple, as the malt, strongly perceivable, only gives off scarce sweetness which combines lightly with any bitterness. Very, very little carbonation as well. An ok Weizenbock. When it comes to Weizenbocks there is simply no better than aventinus, this doesn't come close, the alcohol is too evident, and its a bit thin.

Dark murky red-brown with a foamy but retentive buff head. On the nose, mild wheaty funk. On the tongue, an overwhelming coppery taste that continues into the finish. The ABV holds significant complexity, though, and once the copper fades it reveals dark berry, molasses, warm phenolic spice, salted caramel, and at the very core, sweet pear. Impressive complexity from Erdinger.

Poured a 500ml bottle into a tulip. A two finger fine tan head on a cloudy brown. Good head retention.
Toasted malt smells. Coffee.
Chocolate. Coffee towards the end. A very mild hop finish.
Medium body and carbonation, Creamy texture.
Overall very smooth and well balanced. An excellent Weizenbock.
