a: a big thick two inch tan head sits atop a near black body. i say near black because it is a deep dark brown. the head slowly recedes to leave minimal lacing.

s: roasted coffee, roasted malts, roasted chocolate, roasted everything.

t: more roastiness, a nice blend of malts, a little bitter on the back end.

m: full body, good carbonation, rich and smooth.

o: a really nice porter.

A: The beer pours a very dark brown, almost black with a thin tan head that quickly fades.

S: The beer has a lot of roasted scents with a good bit of black liquorice. Also sort of smells like bread.

T: Has a nice bit of roastedness and some chocolate. I am also picking up on a little coffe after taste.

M: The beer is very smooth and easy to drink. It does have a little crispness on the back of the throat, but it sort of ads to the enjoyment of the beer.

O: This is a very tasty beer. I bought it expecting to be delicious and man it didnt let me down. I can't wait to have another.

Appearance: Nearly opaque with tan head. Retention of head is moderate and sticks around for a bit.
Smell: Evident but subtle notes of roasted malts and chocolate, with a touch of bready yeast.
Taste: Quick build-up with chocolate/roasted malts rising hand-in-hand with an assertive bitterness. Chocolate, coffee, buttered bread quite present in taste. The aforementioned bitterness persists and outlasts the malty goodness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and slick behind that hop bite.

Overall: As frequently mentioned, a pretty complex brew that is an interesting and definitive example of the porter style.

A: Got it on tap at the Olde English Pub, where they serve it in a large (20 oz) dimpled mug. . . . Body is black with a tannish/light-brown head. Leaves behind some splotchy lace.

S: Nice - first impression is of overall roastiness. There's also some dark fruit (raisins, plums) and chocolate malt.

T: Roasted barley malt, chocolatey malt and a touch of charcoal bitterness lingering at the finish. Real nice balance between the roasted barley, sweet chocolate malt and bitter finish.

M: Medium heft, carbonation is mild, doesn't get in the way at all.

O: Excellent. A world-class Porter.
