Poured from an 11.2 fl oz bottle into an oversized pint glass to give it room to swirl and take in some air. Pours a deep dark brown just short of black with a thick and stable khaki colored head that persists. Smell is a bit faint but hints at dark malts, maybe some chocolate and toffee. Taste is much more pronounced, with the same characteristics but with that classic English hop presence in the back that really does something fantastic in all of Fuller's ales. Feel is medium in body, but satisfying. Overall, I liked this and would definitely get it again and recommend it, but I wasn't floored by it or anything.

500ml can

appearance: completely black, oof white head, good lacing and retention. Nice amount of carbonation.

smell: bitter chocolate, coffee, cream, a hint of dried fruits. Amazing blend.

taste: same as the aroma, the chocolate upfront in the mix and the creamy coffee backing it up, with a finish of dried fruits.

mouthfeel: amazingly refreshing and creamy at the same time. Ultra soft and velvety.

overall: a premium porter, amazing beer, a must.

Nice looking dark draft with a quickly receeding head. Serious scent of chocolate with some coffee in there too. Good classic flavor of chocolate and malt from this beer. Low in carbonation, very smooth and a slight bit thinner that I would have expected.

Can't dispute a classic. This beer won't wow you or stand up against those great new flavor-crazy porters that your favorite brewery just invented, but it's the template for all the undeniably enjoyable porters that are made simple, drinkable, and basically enjoyable. Mildly sweet cocoa, chicory grain, and malt flavors, hints of coffee and toasty bitterness, bready undercurrent. Super smooth, light, and it's not hard to reach for a second bottle immediately upon finishing the first.

I have been trying as many porters as I can afford, and this very near the top for me. It has a beautiful dark, ruby tinged color, balanced amazing taste and nice aroma, I wish it was easier to find. This is a porter drinker's porter.

This pours a very dark brown, with a tight small head, and a good amount of lacing.

Smells like everything you want a good porter to smell like- light creamy chocolate, roasted coffee, light smoke, and lots of roasted malt. It's a classic for a reason.

I can't believe I'm only trying this beer for the first time now- that's kind of ridiculous. It's perfectly balanced, with all the wonderful flavors- chocolate, coffee, roast, and light smoke- in perfect harmony. It's so drinkable- you could have a ton of these and it wouldn't be an issue at all.

This is medium bodied, and it drinks a bit bigger than the 5.4% ABV. It has a really nice creaminess.

A picture of this beer should be next to the entry for "English Porter" in the dictionary. A true classic.

Dark brown in color with amber hues on the edge of the glass. Poured with a short, dense, creamy, light beige foam with medium low retention. Medium dark chocolate and mellow, light roasted malt aroma with toffee and nutty notes. Medium bodied with medium light carbonation and velvety, creamy smooth feel. Medium dark malt and chocolate flavors up front followed by biscuity malt lightly roasted coffee flavors before medium earthy hop flavor and medium hop bitterness through the middle. Lightly roasted and bready malt flavors from the middle to the end. Finished dryly with light roasted malt and coffee flavors and mild earthy bitterness. Incredibly complex flavors and aromas throughout with an fabulously smooth feel. Very drinkable and flavorful.

Drinking this 3 months after the best before date and it's still delicious. Creamy, malty and fresh. Not going to age the rest of the four pack but will drink in a hurry

on the darker, very balanced, more malt side. The Whip in PA sells this in vintages.

Look: dark brown/black. Little head, dissipated quickly, little lacing.
Smell: Full of chocolate and coffee smell.
Taste: Strong chocolate notes, bitterness from roasted malt. Some spiciness also, and taste of licorice at the end. No hoppiness.

An excellent porter, very complex for only 5.4% ABV. Will definitely have it again.
